I’m so torn after 25 years of being a fan, it’s such an emotional stab to the heart cos of how much linkin park has been part of my life. I want to stay a LP fan cos I want to be part of keeping Chester’s legacy alive. What Chester did for me growing up and even now, how can I give up. But Emily is making this super hard. She has musical talent but she isn’t close to being able to emotionally deliver Chester’s lyrics.
The part I hate the most is her singing Lost in the live stream. That song felt like a goodbye song and now that’s being tainted too.

I read a harrowing story about a mentally ill young woman who was with "the church." She was in a basement in a home where a caregiver (who was also a Scientologist) went through a step program to "detox" from the psych meds. and become "aware" again. The woman was found in a debilitating state, malnourished and dehydrated, and hadn't bathed or changed clothes in 2 months. She was placed in a state hospital and the caregiver and her father fought for custodial rights.
Their stance on mental illness and psychiatry, as only a hoax, is just garbage. Just as most of their teachings are. I'm feeling very questionable about her now, especially considering Chester's own battle, and support of those who suffer from the disease.

I feel like Linkin Park is now a lot like the game show Wipeout. The first 4 albums/seasons are some of the best in music/game show history, and their 5th and 6th albums/seasons, while they did go down in quality a bit, they still remain pretty good, but then their 7th album/season ends up being a massive letdown (I don't hate OML, but it's nowhere near as good as their other stuff). Then both LP and Wipeout both decide to make a comeback but then ends up being almost disastrous and become a shell of what they once were, with Mike deciding to hire a scientologist out of all people to replace Chester instead of better options like Bobby Amaru or Lzzy Hale, and that could possibly destroy their reputation. And as for Wipeout, the new format sucks with them enforcing teams instead of everyone running individually and having only 3 rounds instead of 4, the new hosts lack personality and even sneak in adult jokes into a family friendly game show.

Did Mike and the rest of the band know anything about Emily's connection to Scientology? No vetting of her background? Maybe that is why Rob left the band? Chester worked tirelessly for mental health, the exact opposite of what Scientology stands for, which is totally against mental health and antidepressants. (Does anyone remember how Tom Cruise trashed Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants for postpartum depression?) Linkin Park is no longer Linkin Park without Chester.

This situation has soo many layers it's hard to find a place to start. When it comes to the overall sound of Linkin Park I am not happy that they did the typical Disney woke move by taking something that resonated soo much especially with males and "put a chick in it" I compare it to if Paramore decided to replace Hayley Williams with Howard Jones. Emily can sing cleans well but her screams are not capable of being Chester's no matter how hard she tries to copy them in what looks like an unsafe manner with her almost blowing her vocal cords multiple times during the debut performance with the first time coming 2 songs in with the catalyst. Emily's ties to Scientology is a major area outside of the gender swap that infuriates me with how they are factually a cult guilty of trafficking people of ALL AGES and don't believe in mental health. Emily cleared up the situation with Masterson which I can accept if true but she purposely hid her current views on Scientology and where it stands in her life and when people don't disclose things it usually means assume the worst. The Mars Volta member who's wife was a victim of Masterson and the Scientology cult came out and made claims it's all a PR move from Emily with her statement on the situation and until she and the band come out and address this issue everyone can only assume the worst. If all is true with Emily then Jaime is right and the band have spat in the face of everything they build previously and especially with Chester and all his charity and activism work for pro mental health and protecting children from evil diddlers. On the other hand I can see where Mike is in a tough spot with how everything he worked his entire life for and built in LP was taken away from him. LP meant everything to Mike and even Chester said back during the Hunting Party album tour cycle on an interview with the now defunct ScuzzTv in the UK that "it's Mike's band" when addressing how the evil music executives wanted to cut Mike out and nobody in the band was having it. It is frustrating and has torn the fanbase apart yet again as before Chester's passing I amongst most other LP fans were unhappy with LP releasing a pure generic pop album with external writers coming into the fold from the pop world to taint the music that made Linkin Park who they were. Instead of hearing us all out LP especially Chester came out swinging and mocking the fans who justifiably didn't enjoy the direction they took with One More Light which just angered us a lot more and it was with Chester's passing we came together again to support the band. I love Linkin Park, they are my favourite band and I don't hate the emptiness machine but it isn't right to flip the identity of the band like a cheap Disney remake with a clearly problematic singer who if it was a male in these controversial situations the world will want his head on a plate and he wouldn't have been hired or would have been released soon after. This is what they do, they put girls and marginalised communities into things to make people go easy with their justifiable criticisms because society is one massive participation trophy with "my little princess" syndrome rotting us from within now. I am really sad that not all the members are on board with this decision too as it's clear Rob doesn't want anything to do with the band after the loss of Chester which is a surprising exit because Mike, Brad, Rob and Mark(their former vocalist) created the band in high school and it was previously known back in it's inception as Xero. I really hope if anything, that we can have the OG 5 back one day soon and if they do stubbornly persist with Emily if the truth with evidence comes out with Scientology and the bad things she might have been involved in actively, that the band will no longer associate with her. If Emily is no longer devout to that cult and has a change of heart then I hope they build a new catalogue under a different name like Linkin Park 2.0 or something sort of like how Star Wars got Disney Star Wars after it tried soo hard to alienate the fanbase from what true Star Wars is. I wish the band the best as long as they haven't lost their souls!

I've seen people mention that kind of stuff as well. I've never listened to Dead Sara, had never heard of her prior to this, but some people that a lot of her lyrics from Dead Sara are also very indicative of a hatred for religion. I think it's easier to criticize it subliminally through music than directly, especially when dealing with a straight up cult like Scientology.
Many people forget that ALOT of people born into deeply religious families and more or less forced to be involved with religion DESPISE it. That's why there is a bit of a cliché that kids like that grow up and go wild when they arent under the thumb of it anymore.
We genuinely don't know what's going on here. Emily could be very much on board with Scientology and what it does, but to instantly try to label her as such is just as disingenuous in my opinion as people are trying to accuse her of being with the statement she released. This is a VERY precarious matter. She CAN'T just come right out and rip Scientology a new asshole, they WILL retaliate, and not even just against her but against whatever people still under the thumb of scientology that she happens to still care about.

I personally blame Mike and the management more than Emily herself for the direction LP is taking (the court case stuff is 100% on Emily). Scientology has a history of harassment against members who try to defect or even denounce the cult publicly, and being born into it Emily essentially did not choose to be in the cult and when your family and community are all cult members it's hard to escape. Apparently attending the court case was even an order from the cult so Emily might not have much of a choice in what she can say.
In saying that, while I think it's unfortunate that Emily would probably have many doors of opportunity close because of her association with Scientology, Mike and co shouldn't have chosen her to be the lead vocal, knowing her background. It's really no surprise why they're getting so much backlash, her singing abilities aside.

I have some criticism of this video I'm keen for anyone who believes differently to change my mind. My main issue is you don't explore any of the other possibilities of her not condemning Scientology. For example as she was born into it her family and childhood friends would all be scientologists this cult has a president for fully cutting off anyone who leaves the cult. Along with loss of connection with her family other credible risks are physical injury and legal trouble both of which this cult has done to former members in the past. I also feel she obviously at least doesn't follow all the cults views proven by her being gay and her lyrics in dead sera consistently going against the cults views on mental health. I feel like this views give evidence to her not being a hardcore scientologist and possibly not speaking out for other reasons such as to maintain relationships with family and not risk physical harm. I feel like she is being villinised while so little is known about her beliefs and involvement. I think with cults it is important to attack the cult, and the people promoting not individuals very very little known about there personal situation who i haven't yet seen any evidence of promoting the cults viewpoints. Happy to respond to anyone who has any criticism or can provide any evidence that proves me wrong

Im sure this is a screaming hot take here, but I’m still gonna check out the new album and stuff. I enjoyed the new song and I enjoy her vocals. I feel like her “apology”, while very brief, is kind of all she could say honestly. Maybe I would’ve mentioned Danny by name, but that’s about it. I think the reason she can’t say that she left Scientology, is because her life or safety could be in danger. Sure that argument sounds like a cop out I’m sure, but I’m pretty sure Scientologists aren’t kind to people who leave the cult.
This is just an all around bad situation, and I totally understand both sides of the argument. However, I am still willing to support Linkin Park, unless it gets worse or if she specifically does more bad things.

People are so quick to say about how dangerous Scientology is, so those people should know why she just can’t come out and say it if these stories are to be believed. It’s not just her at risk, she’s second generation. So they could do something horrific to put her whole family in danger.I feel SOME of the people wanting her to come out about it actually don’t care but want her head on a stick. I really feel for Emily, she’s in a scary situation and I’d think she would be very brave and courageous to continue touring with the band after this, considering how taxing the mental toll on her probably is at the moment.

    Hey Jon,
believe me when I say that I feel just as insecure and uneasy as everyone does about this situation.
I'm a lifelong LP fan and anticipated the reunion with upmost curiosity. And to be honest: When LP initially made their new line up official, released the new song etc... I was amazed and happy - at first!
From an artistic pov I like the new LP a lot. The music is cool, I like Emilys voice... I just think its profound and something I can get used to (we all need to get used to the new LP, whether we do or do not support it).
BUT - and thats a big But - the whole Scientology and Masterson situation rattles me as well, like hell.
I don't want to support an artist or even my favorite band if they are active Scientoligsts. Its just impossible, I don't even need to point out reasons here. I think we agree in that instance.
BUT - and thats a second, even bigger But - I think may help to consider that the whole situation might be way more complicated than we understand or could comprehend.
Before you read my following word I want to make clear that I'm not trying to protect Emily or LPs decision hiring her. Please keep that in mind.
But I think there are so much more factors we have to think about than all that social media discussions and the backlash.
You said it yourself: Emily was born into Scientology, she didn't actively decide to join it. Her parents are eveb big bugs in the cult.
Emily identifies as queer, which - at least as far as I know - is a no go in Scientology.
Her apology on social media felt dissatisfying to me, too - especially because she didn't address the Scientology thing at all. (Though I was personally satisfied with the part of her distancing from Masterson and violence.)
    But lets think about it:
We all know Scientology and how horrible that cult is. We also know they have an inhouse secret service and a huuuge network, especially in the USA. A lot of former members of Scientology claimed they didn't issue against them earlier because they were simpliy scared. Scared for themselves, their families and friends.
I mean, who can really tell if Emily isn't just scared as well? I think her not mentioning Scientology in her statement might even emphasize exactly that. Maybe its just not easy to say, as someone who was born and raised in it, "Hey, I'm not with Scientology anymore, I distance myself from them, they are bad".
Maybe its even more complicated to phrase a proper statement about that, a one that she can live with, without feeling uneasy.
And who knows, maybe the Bixlers just use the hate and openly pillory Emily to get attention, because they know what a big deal it is - espacially in connection to LP.
Please don't kill me and remember my earlier words: I'm not protecting anyone or anything here. I'm just trying to give another perspective. I used the word MAYBE a lot in the previous paragraphs a lot on purpose. Because I don't know anything. Just as we all don't.
    And once again:
I want a clear statement from her and/or LP as well!
IF she is Scientology I'll cry in sadness, because that crosses the line for me and it would be the end for me as an LP fan after 23 years.
If they keep being silent about it... I don't know what to do. I want to like and support the new LP. Don't know if I can, though, if we never get a clear answer.
    Long story short:
Just an opinion from a random guy, who is mostly with you in this case, but still trying to give another perspective.
Keep up your good work and greetings and best regards from Germany,
    Kai

I honestly listened to their new song not long ago and actually enjoyed the song. Sure, it's not Chester and it's not the same, but her voice fits the band really well. Honestly, we shouldn't judge her until she does something terrible. I bet a lot of lawyers would tell you that many people do what she did when Masterson was being sentenced. The only reason we know about it was because it was such a big trial. If you feel this way about her, I hope you're not watching any movies or tv shows with Scientologists in it as it would ruin the show for you.
I'm sorry, I think this is a terrible mindset that you have towards her, and I think scientology is complete dog water. I'd get your point if it was EDP or someone like Masterson, but this is someone that basically dealt with brainwashing. She could be westboro baptist and as long as she doesn't act like them (at that point she should leave but easier said then done), I wouldn't care. Let's just wait to see how she is, then we can make our judgment. This video is the equivalent of rating a movie based on teasers without watching the movie. Not everyone will be happy, no matter who the lead singer is. Hope you the best in your TH-cam career, never watched you before, but was trying to find out about the scientology conspiracy. If she does fuck up though, I'll do my best to find this comment again and edit the ending to say you were right and I was wrong.

    I'd wager... None.
And now let's imagine a new super group the St Leucius Pork, fronted by the Pope with the Bishop of Canterbury, two random priests and a monk... (NGL, that sounds hilarious 🤣) But now, let's imagine they do an All Ages gig in a cruise liner and children get a discount.
    You would care. Wouldn't you?
Let's remember that scientologists don't even believe in the concept of children and I'm not even gonna talk about everything else. The F.B.I. kept receipts.

All the controversy surrounding it has just put me off, to the point where I don’t even care anymore. In fact odds are I’m not even gonna buy the album in November because of it. Maybe in a couple years when the dust settles I’ll give it a listen. This is the first time that a band/artist has announced an album, and I’ve just went “no.” Don’t get me wrong, I went in with an open mind, and at first I was on board. I mean, Some of the suggestions that people had for replacement singers were ridiculous. (I will never not laugh at the dude on Reddit who thought Wes Scantlin of all people was the perfect fit for Linkin Park)
But I'm starting to think even those options would've been less controversial, Like Wes may be a nutcase that should be locked up in an institution but at least he's got morals. Nevermind Bobby Amaru of Saliva who actually could've been a great fit unironically.
Armstrong isn't a bad singer but she just doesn't have the range that Chester did nor the technique, And her raspy vocals sound forced when singing his parts. I'm sure she'll sound good on the album but she's got a long way to go before she's able to perform the older material.

1st thought that came to my mind when I heard the new single was..."what emptiness machine are you apart of?" This sounds suspicious 👁
With lines from the song like: "gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be" ... falling for "the promise of the emptiness machine"...."it's been decided how we lose" "there's a fire under the altar I keep on lying to"...
Why are they writing a song about betraying themselves, lying and worshiping those lies? Is the truth spelled out for us right before our eyes but we can't see it?
It seems like a direct insult to the message that Chester embodied in his lyrics.

I already posted this over on Metalbirb's video; I'm just gonna copy/paste it here because I'm already beyond sick of hearing about this.
I'm standing with Emily. I don't give a shit about her religion; if I only listened to people who believed the things that I do, I wouldn't have anybody left to listen to. I also don't give a shit about who she was friends with; we've all had questionable friendships we later discovered we were better off without. Masterson is rotting in prison for 30 years to life, and good riddance. It is not Emily's responsibility to atone for the sins of an entire religion -- she's not the fucking pope of Scientology; she has not committed a crime, and she's a great fit for the band. That's enough for me. If you are expecting every member of every band that you love to pass a purity test you are going to be very disappointed; you should probably not go digging into any of the other bands you love. I am fully aware of the narrative that Emily is trying not to provoke the Cult of Scientology for the sake of her own safety and the safety of the band and maybe even the fans, and part of me does still want to believe that she's at least trying to distance herself from them. That new LP song is doing well on the charts because it's already seeing heavy radio play on both rock and alternative stations. It's because the radio has been conditioned to play new music from the same few 20+ year old bands since they're safe choices and they peaked at a time when rock music actually was popular with crossover audiences. Linkin Park is one of those bands.
Look at last year how the radio kept overplaying Lost, which was a 20 year old song that got scraped from Meteroa. It got a re-release the celebrate the album's anniversary, and it immediately started getting spins because the radio already plays their older hits as filler songs. (They were basically sitting and waiting patiently for a new LP song to play. Even if what they got was a much older one.) It also helps their case that this new song isn't very good because the radio is known for playing the safest music to please as many demographics as possible.

    I'm so confused
On the one hand I feel like there's no way LP didn't see this and thought it was ok. She must be distanced from scientology and the band wants to protect her, cause it's said that the church will hunt you down if you dare to leave.
On the other hand I see how all these people talking against Emily are former members and do it so seamlessly, and see how bad her apology was and I start to feel very weird.
As someone who thought LP had all the rights to come back, did, for the most part, like Emily as a vocalist and the new single, and saw how the band were as people in the past is really hard for me take all this in.
I can't say I'm just in for the music, as much as I did like it, cause of course I'm gonna criticize the band if they do wrong.
I mean, them thinking this wasn't gonna cause any controversy, even if she's not with the church anymore, is very dumb. Especially in this day and age, look how little it took to be out to the public.
I guess I'm just a bit sad there was barely any momentum and my hype only lasted a couple of days, which was a strecht knowing how soon the scientology thing was known
