as the examiner is expecting to see the wheels moving for 40 minutes, how can it benefit a pupil to talk about what has just happened, and to asses it and correct, when they are thinking about what is coming up ?????

What I try to do is, if they are on a quiet road, after "something happened" I try and ask them, very briefly if they understood what it was and attempt to correct it, however, if its something significant, or safety critical, I will always pull them up an a convenient place and discuss it, the examiner will notice that you identified the danger and will understand that you will have to have a chat with the person driving, and then, either adapt the lesson plan or carry on with the original plan, if this is in keeping with the lesson goals

Incredibly well explained, Bob. Do you do 1-1 zoom meetings? It's for my brother. He's just failed his 1st attempt on his part 3, by around 2 points.

    Lots of helpful pointers here.
My SC is in a few weeks (following a fail for all the reasons you cover well).
My plan, for want of a better word, is to discuss junctions with the learner at outset and guide them to any doubts.
Driving comes in two forms: 'Progress' or MPSL on straightforward roads between junctions and 'Approaching' which is MSPSgL oriented.
I ask the learner if they would like to be fully independent on 'Progress' or would prefer guidance, and suggest guided or full instruction on junctions and roundabouts.
Uxbridge has plenty to offer, including a roundabout where the examiners usually guide test candidates.
Does this sound like a reasonable start?
