I love the black and white footage from that outdoor college gig where Wayne does that 'glide' across the stage coolest move I;ve even seen to this day!
Ahh, seen pictures of the 5 with him in that Sci Fi meets superhero get up and always wondered wtf was up with that? Makes sense now, kinda like Dave Hill's 'Super Yob' thing.
I'm ashamed and have to admit, at 53 years old, I never listened to MC5 before,. Not for any reason either, just so much music so little time kind of thing......but I came across the Tarter Field concert video a few months back and was completely blown away. I've been watching and listening to them just about non stop since, I'm in love with this band and angry at myself for waiting so long to delve in........what a massively powerful band, and Wayne Kramer, just brilliant, ..... kick ass!! How did I miss this? I'm a believer, sign me up! I have to put them up there with the Beatles and other groundbreakers and innovators...and why they're not in the Hall of Fame is astounding, they should've been in a long time ago. Where and what would Punk Rock be without this band? Nowhere and nothing....MC5/Godfathers........Wayne Kramer...Thank You!
Totally agree! I first heard of MC5 somewhere in the 90’s but never gave much consideration at that time. I just started getting into their stuff over the summer. The Pandemic gave me some free time! Love their music and raw energy!
Never been another band like the MC5, before or since. With the White Panther and revolution stuff on the side and their sound was so loud and aggressive for thst time. They came on the scene just tearin shit up and taking no prisoners. MC5 said enough of this SF hippy dippy jam rock crap let's punch em in the face with some Detroit muscle. One of the most interesting bands ever and one of the greatest live bands ever.
Fred..( Sonic) se caso con Patti Smith en el 80,tuvieron dos hijos y Sonic murió.. No recuerdo si fue en,el 94,o 96,..."de un ataque al corazón!...vaya!;,igual que murio Tyner!!
I kick myself for not listening to these guys all these years (i am 59) . I came across some live footage about 6 months ago and it is the first time in a loooooong time that I felt the true raw power of why Rock and Roll transformed music. I immediately tracked down and overpaid for a first edition of their first album (Vinyl of course). I cherish this record (scratches and all). The perfection of the MC5 is in their raw and unabashed imperfections. Everything that a true Rock and Roll band should embody. This is exhibit A in why Detroit is so important in the history and narrative of modern music. This band could only come out of Detroit pure and simple. A revelation and revolution every time I listen to them.
Oh wait! I just noticed! This is the clip where Fred Smith is dressed weird! And it showcases the World's Most Underrated Frontman, the Great Rob Tyner! One of the Best Ever!
Wayne Kramer is touring with MC50 and everybody I've talked to and every review I've read is blown away. Still haven't seen them go live myself though.
Very near to my home town of High Wycombe , England. Born too late to see MC5 but saw many bands there in the 90 s. Love the MC5 , should have born when my parents where born !!
Fantastic footage of a truly great band who were as good as any of the then current crop of UK bands , not only that but offering a musical style ahead of its time , as would be seen only a few years later.Fab!
Did they do many shows in the uk. It's crazy how this is only a few years after beat mania of 66-68 and brother Wayne looks great even in 2022 he's fit as a butchers dog. And still got the guitar riffage down like he always did.
Our favorite house band at The Grande Ballroom in Detroit. Always put on a great show and never got the recognition they deserved. Fred Sonic "Mad Dog" Smith and Brother Wayne Kramer were a great guitar duo.
Stephen Kane Imagine seeing the Fabulous MC5 about 15 times during the golden age of hardcore rock and roll and being there when they recorded the "Kick Out the Jams" album.
Papa M I will do so, when I see the MC50th "Kick Out The Jams" tour. They're playing Philly my home.city, and Detroit as well at the Fillmore in October just about 50 years to the day of the original record. Really considering going to the Detroit show as well. I'd love to have been a part of an era when people got together to revel in real instruments live playing completely new sounds and really honed in on each to every nuance because there were no distracting technology. They tried to distract us with drugs, now it's the digital crack. Ha. Anyways! I live to see the day the Grande Ballroom host concerts once more as a national registered landmark. These were the days when the band was in town, you knew it, everyone knew it. Almost a tangible energy the shows must have all been great. Just thinking about the legends the MC5 played with really puts it into perspective just the amount of natural talent and skill sets every one of us have.
Stephen Kane The Five opened for the Jimi Hendrix Experience the first time we saw Jimi. What a great night of music. I'm afraid the Grande is too far gone to be restored.
the classic mc5 line up's last hurrah here.they end it here with style.of course without realizing their falling apart by then.in fighting, drink and drugs, burning out.mixed emotions here.🙂😢.
My favourite MC5 song, cos the first cut is the deepest. I bought Back In The USA, put it on, and thought "why is there a shit version of Tutti Frutti here? I thought the MC5 were supposed to ROCK?". Then this song kicked in, and I was hooked. I can't get over how their music is so heavy and also so spacious. Best two guitar band ever. And does Rob Tyner really sing "You gotta get down in Aylesbury" here? Bless you Rob. I wonder whether it gives the surviving members any satisfaction knowing they're one of the greatest and most under-rated bands in history? Probably not.
Envious, me? 😂 I lived not too far away from Aylesbury but was more in the habit of going to various London venues like the Marquee or Roundhouse. There was just so much great live music at this time.
Robs gap in his front teeth reminds me of the mom from ‘good times’ lol! But a awesome underrated singer… gonna visit his grave in nearby Berkeley Michigan..
Great to see this. I wonder if the whole gig was filmed? Poor quality claim to fame: my physics teacher at secondary school, Mr. Haslam produced their third LP! In three years of him teaching us, he never once mentioned his previous career (and weirdly, none of the other teachers did either!). He also produced the Velvets Loaded. Sadly, I was into the NWOBHM at the time so wouldn't have known the 5 or VU for love nor money. Regret not having used the opportunity to chat to him about music now (rather than some boring physics based chat).
I was listening to them in my 20's-30's with bands like The Stooges, The New York Dolls when it was not "politically" correct!....Never seen this footage! It's great!
i got into them around 1980 when i was 15 and started getting into the dolls and the pistols and dead boys. this stuff sure got the motor moving. i never thought id see stuff like this. too cool
THANK YOU , Wayne Kramer! this really captured the wild animal that was the 5 .you play some great guitar .now I know how that 'ringing' sound on the record was achieved. I won't be picky about this artifact, but 'SONIC' didn't play much lead on it .rest his soul. just heard Ray Sawyer died, for what it's worth. 81. but Happy New Year, anyway. don't know how I missed this clip .running my PC thru a boom box .I'll be annoying the whole house now .ROCK ON ,Wayne.
I'm 56. Compare, if you will, to the Stooges. Stooges were more divorced from the guitar heavy blues/boogie band of the mainstream, but there is still magic here.
Wayne Kramer passed away on February 2nd 2024 aged 75… rest in peace to a true testimonial guitarist and the sound of Detroit…
Not just the sound of Detroit, Detroit itself. Read his biography, "The Hard Stuff." 🙂
Thanks Wayne
Love Wayne he was such a showman
Oh yes man , its true 👍
The internet is blowing up with people discovering MC5 and Wayne Kramer. Its about time......
I love the black and white footage from that outdoor college gig where Wayne does that 'glide' across the stage coolest move I;ve even seen to this day!
Let us not forget Brother Dennis Thompson, MC5 drummer. He passed away this past week, the last ladt living MC5er.
dang! RIP Mr "Machine gun" Thompson
REST EASY BROTHER WAYNE KRAMER
You know the world is in trouble when ABBA, Madonna, Dolly Parton & Public Enemy are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, ........ and MC5 are not,
Shameful. Names need to be taken! Peace out!
It is rather, putting it politely, FUCKIN OUTRAGEOUS!!!
Fuck the RnR HoF. Who needs it anyway?
Who needs Rock'nRoll Hall of Fame??? It's just an American Bullshit !!
Rock and Roll hall of fame is run by people who are interested in money not music.
RIP Wayne Kramer you really kicked out the jams! Thanks!
RIP Wayne. One of the best!
Whoa...Fred's got the 'Official' Sonic Smith Uniform on. I really miss him, you, Fred and Ron Ashton were my guitar heroes growing up and still are
Ron & Fred are the TOP!!
Ahh, seen pictures of the 5 with him in that Sci Fi meets superhero get up and always wondered wtf was up with that? Makes sense now, kinda like Dave Hill's 'Super Yob' thing.

This music is timeless! You can’t be late once you’ve arrived! 🙂
Born 68.greatest band ever.Beatles quit.Stones wished they could kick a jam.Just my opinion. Greatest live band out if the states ever.
Im 47yo and im a fan since i was 10 years old
52, same shit. I lived in Windsor. How this got by me is beyond me. So much music and so little time. Good point. Cheers!
Man i wish I'd seen this band live. Looks like they really kicked ass ✌🤘
These Guys were American Badass Rock n Roll!!!!!!
MC5, listen up people of 2019, real rock gods playing bitching sounds, man what an impact this band had on me back in the day.
Never been another band like the MC5, before or since. With the White Panther and revolution stuff on the side and their sound was so loud and aggressive for thst time. Thank you, Brother Kramer, for kicking out those jams for all those years.
What an incredible performance, the band is so tight!!
Fred in the full "Sonic" Smith get up! lml So great!
Fred "Sonic" Smith way in the future
Haha. And in a space helmet!
I also love Rob Tyner's sensible jumper (for the English February weather).
Fred..( Sonic) se caso con Patti Smith en el 80,tuvieron dos hijos y Sonic murió..
No recuerdo si fue en,el 94,o 96,..."de un ataque al corazón!...vaya!;,igual que murio Tyner!!
I bet his getup was inspired by Sun Ra Arkestra
Killer lead guitar work, Wayne K!

I hate to say it but it was the Ramones talking about the MC5 in footage that turned me on to this Great Band! I am forever a fan !
Awesome! Should be in the R&R HOF!
Nah, fuck the HoF
Rest in peace Wayne. Prayers for your family.
Oh wait! I just noticed! This is the clip where Fred Smith is dressed weird!
And it showcases the World's Most Underrated Frontman, the Great Rob Tyner! One of the Best Ever!
Sonic Smith
Stephen Kane Yep. Sonic!
Richie B the sweet
Helicopter head👺🤓
That's the infamous Sonic Smith Space Suit.
Wayne Kramer is touring with MC50 and everybody I've talked to and every review I've read is blown away. Still haven't seen them go live myself though.
Saw MC50 live-the best gig I've ever been to
Phenomenal performance that must have blown the good people of Aylesbury’s collective mind… such a badass band! ❤
Nice to see Rob dressed for a game of cricket. Good sport.
Very near to my home town of High Wycombe , England. Born too late to see MC5 but saw many bands there in the 90 s. Love the MC5 , should have born when my parents where born !!
Thee Hypnotics on a good night were great
I've seen footage of jimi hendrix playing a concert here too...either late 66 or early 67
Born too late, wish I'd been there.
I was there. Went to a pub with some of the band before the show.
Be here now
Me too.
@@nicmart Me too. I was with you
5 years later, just liked the comment and then noticed it is my own comment. You were the real deal, Brother Wayne.
I love that raw garage rock sound! Looking forward to the Grand Rapids, MI concert this September - 2018.
Fantastic footage of a truly great band who were as good as any of the then current crop of UK bands , not only that but offering a musical style ahead of its time , as would be seen only a few years later.Fab!
Rip Brother Wayne
Glad this long lost footage was found! Priceless!
Wayne is Guitar God.
Just blown away. Rock’n’Roll in your face!

They did a few when they couldn't play in the US any more. I saw them on the same tour playing in Croydon. Mind-blowingly exhilarating
_"Gonna get down in AYYYLESBUHHREEE... tonight!"_
Haha. Rob Tyner was the only being in the history of time who ever got down in Aylesbury.
An excellent example of combining major and minor pentatonic scales.
Our favorite house band at The Grande Ballroom in Detroit. Always put on a great show and never got the recognition they deserved. Fred Sonic "Mad Dog" Smith and Brother Wayne Kramer were a great guitar duo.
The best guitar duo of rock history.
And rock current ;)

Damn, it was 51 years ago today that I was at this show.
That's a beautiful guitar Wayne's playing at this gig!
Epiphone Wilshire.
@@jean-loupdelabatellerie3065 A friend of mine had one so I always call it "the Ben Miller model."
Not an expensive guitar but sounded amazing when a master like Wayne played it.
@@aisle_of_view: Grand Funk Railroad's Mark Farner's '60s/early '70s era guitar looked like a pawn shop find, but he made great music with it!

So fucking great I could cry
Waynes playing is just magic before Fred comes i n & kikcs out those jams
Rock and roll history ! thanks for posting this.

once again proving they may have been the greatest rock band ever
Masterful!! And the suit!!!!!
:)
How awesome is this??? RIP Wayne Kramer ,thanks 4 Kickin out the jams💣🎸✊🏾🤘🏾🙏🏾🥲🫡
Fred Sonic Smith , Brother Wayne and Rob … all three gone now . Man
Mike Davis the bassist Rip.
Dude. Rob’s phrasing is so rad on this. Also, Fred, Sun Ra called. He needs his wardrobe back.
He wore that Sonic Smith costume at the Detroit Rock n’ Roll Festival in 1969
This is class! I just wish we could track down some Gang of War footage with Johnny Thunders and Right Hon W Kramer smashing it together. Peace!
Gang War, no "of".
Yeah! I’ve looked, and there seems to be hardly any live documentation of that band...which is a shame.😔
Brilliant, relevant and Frank making a true observation and he's been dead over 30 years
great band!!!
Doesn't get better than this

fuck the R&RHOF it's scrass back slapping
20 seconds in and Wayne is posing for his vampire photos on "High Time" album gatefold again.
These guys were the shit! The singers voice kicks ass
Play mc5 to anyone who has hearing left, these guys arent to be forgotten, the damn government cant silence them or us any longer!
Never will you hear two guitars sing together so sweet baby.DIG IT!!!!
R.I.P brothers Wayne, Tyner & Smith
Please come back to TheCommodore in Vancouver BC🙏
MC5, the loudest house band in the Grande Ballroom in the Sky. Long live the 5!
Fantastic footage. Kramer was a very underrated guitarist. Sometimes he sounds like Peter Green.
So wish I had seen them play live - especially at Friars!
OH! MY! GOD! That´s the real shit! The Brothers for ever!!
Loud and fun - the way rock n roll was meant to be.
RIP Wayne Kramer, Guitar Hero !
awesome
I think Fred raided Sun Ras closet
I was a member of friars, but sadly not until '76 ( phase 3). God!! I wish I was born 5 years earlier.

I knew it was England when I spent the day reading the address.
Rock On MC5

Awesome performance in the ol UK.
Love the John Lee Hooker tribute.
Great song! Great video! MC5 is the best!

@infoscholar5221 Stooges way more primitive, but way more experimental
amazing
Nice work Wayne🤘🏾
Super Cool! Wish we could see you play a little more , but that's always the case. Thanks!
Espetacular! 👏👏👏👏👏
Love me some Glam Rock MC5! Heavy psych here
