Yes, I was going to point that out. The owner, Donald Sinclair, inspired the character. The Gleneagles has now been demolished and replaced by a block of retirement homes, named "Sachs Lodge" in memory of Andrew Sachs (Manuel) who died around the time of them being built (2016).

Yes, I came here to see if anyone bothered to point it out! Also, I think they miss so many gags, although some are more subtle than others or you need to have watched the series at least a dozen times to appreciate some of the humour... Many of the 'in' jokes were only revealed in interviews with the actors and writers later on; such as it being the paperboy (though rarely seen), is revealed to be the prankster who rearranges the letters on the "Fawlty Towers" sign to sometimes crude phrases.

Classic British comedy. Just when you think it can't get any worse, or the lead character has actually come out on top. The whole thing goes to shit due to arrogance, ignorance, stubborn bloody-mindedness, or a combination of them all.
Absolute classics. There's not many episodes, but they are culturally meaningful and loved for good reason.

Great reaction to a fantastic comedy series, which is called "Fawlty Towers".
My old dad (masonry apprenticeship at 14 for 3 years, a year of construction work, night school on the side to get his college qualification for 1 and a half year, then at 19 to engineering school graduating after 3 years, almost 2 years of military service and then 35 years of working as a civil engineer before his health caused him to break prematurely) he once said, in the sanitized version, how you build houses in America is not necessarily the way you are used to in Germany (mind you the sanitized version).

Talking about village idiots, the chap playing O'Reilly the builder, David Kelly was a main character in a British show called Robins Nest (a spin off series from a show called Man About the House) which was about a small resturant where David Kelly played a one armed dish washer\ kitchen hand and was absolutly brilliant.
An aside to this, Robins Nest was later picked up and remade\adapted in the US as Threes a Crowd starring John Ritter which of course was a spin off from Threes Company which in turn was an adaptation of Man About the House. Another spin off from Man About the House was a show called George and Mildred (another must watch!) which was adapted in the US as The Ropers. All the above of course comedy gold!

'It's just not your day' - I think you'll like this one.
Without going into too much detail, so as to protect the guilty, on a particular tour of duty, there was a railway line, that was being pretty extensively and exclusively used, for military logistics, moving lots of equipment and supplies from the port, in country to where it was needed.
On this one particular day, the train derailed. It did so because some US Army Engineers were working on the railway, except they didn't tell anyone they were, and so when the train came along.... you've guessed it.
Given this was a major incident, some of my Military Police colleagues headed off to the scene, as is customary given the circumstances, as did various other interested parties, in order to a) find out exactly what had happened, and b) to start what would no doubt be a heck of a lot of work to rectify the situation. It is worth nothing that this was in the British sector too.
Whilst there, various senior people came along, mainly out of idle curiosity, with answers predominantly coming from a very red faced and embarrassed young US Army Lt, in charge of the engineer unit responsible for the whole debacle. To be honest it was sheer luck that nobody had been killed or injured.
My colleagues described how a US Army General turned up, and seeing a familiar style of uniform amongst the multi national crowd, headed off to the young Lt. Here we go, they thought. This could be the most spectacular dressing down seen in NATO for quite a few decades. Eyes down, look in, get ready....
The General got to the Lt, and just said 'Not your day son is it. Not your day', and just wandered off, much to the amazement of everyone else.
I guess given the situation, from which there really was absolutely no escape, it was the case that the Lt already pretty much knew his fate, and there was just no need for the General to make it even more clearer, lol.

You said that you didn't have a DVD player, but shouldn't the DVDs play in a Blue Ray player? Or can you get a DVD drive for your computer (external plug in one would do).
