    I've been itching to do a grandiose video project like I used to, and so spent the last 10 days putting this together. Going back to my roots here, and it feels good. I uploaded six separate test samples of this video while working on it to make sure ZERO instances of the footage I used were flagged by you-know-who for copyright, and passed with flying colors. I also used only library music and am making no mention of the sport itself. I've done all I can do to make this one fly under the radar. Folks, if this video gets taken down, I can only assume we have a traitor in our midst :)

    Seeing this old footage reminds me of a story most NFL fans don't know about today. After the AFL - NFL merger was announced, the NFL split from 2 conferences (Eastern and Western) into 4 divisions of 4 teams in preparation for the upcoming merger and expanded playoffs. Only one team from each division made the playoffs and that was the division winner. The divisions were the Capitol, Century, Coastal and Central. The NFL did this from 1966 to 1969. In 1967, the Colts went into the last game of the season at home, leading the Rams by one game. The Colts were 11-0-2, the Rams were 10-1-2. The clubs had played to a 24-24 tie in Los Angeles earlier in the season. The Rams crushed the Colts that day 34-10. The clubs finished with identical 11-1-2 records, but the Rams got the playoff spot based on a better head to head record. The point of the story is the Colts went into the last game of the season without loss, yet they did not make the playoffs. For what it's worth, the Rams lost to Green Bay in the first round of the playoffs 28-7. That Packer win set up the infamous "Ice Bowl" game with Dallas.

    • @stephaniegormley9982
      @stephaniegormley9982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also the Pack was only 9-4-1 but had home field on the Rams because in those days it was rotated, not based on best record. Had the game been in LA it might have been a different story.

    What made this game so endearing was not only the product on the field, but the theatrical presentation that NFL Films brought into our homes. Both have seemingly gone and replaced by point spreads and fantasy football. Thanks for keeping these glorious films memories of the game we once loved alive.

      I would say NFL Films declined after the very early 70's. They were at their best in the 60's. For some they did away with NFL Action, which was a great TV show in the summer. When they did show highlights, they dropped the marital music that was so inspirational and they phased out John Facenda. Those were huge mistakes.
      Football gradually became less interesting to me over the course of the 70's and I lost most of my interest in the 80's. Now, I don't watch the NFL at all.

    I think what happens is the No Fun League sends in bunches of highlight clips from time to time for TH-cam to scan in, and once they do that, existing videos on TH-cam that happen to match the scanned clips get flagged, and the account holder gets hit with a strike. So it's hard to say if/when there will be a content match with a snippet of this video. I don't think it's so much about people informing on others, though. It's all automatic. I'm not even sure the league hears about copyright strikes unless someone tries to challenge one of the automated copyright claims.
    This was fun to watch, by the way. Nice job. I noticed you added the little bug that says "Back Door" at one point.

    • @davevolskysbackdoor5673
      @davevolskysbackdoor5673  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Tonia :) It's been my experience that the TH-cam algorithms can only identify clips longer than 30 seconds, though that may have changed. Seeing as the bulk of my long videos are made up of hundreds of smaller-sized clips, I think that also acts as another layer of protection. It's only well-known NFL clips that are in TH-cam's copyright database, such as the Immaculate Reception or a popular Walter Payton clip. You're never going to get flagged for say, Ira Matthews' 104-yard kickoff return from 1979 because, well, it's Ira Matthews. For sure probably 99+% of the copyright flags are automatic, but I have had multiple videos blocked in the past that 'claimed' they were 'manual' flags.

    This will be the only football I’ll watch this year is on TH-cam and your channel. I’m not interested in the virtue-signaling “WOKE” NFL based on released news articles and Goodell’s recent interviews. It’s a shame misinformed players and NFL leadership has ruined this glorious sport that you so perfectly put together in your clips and films.

      I stopped watching the NFL after the 2014 season, and even then I'd barely been watching since about 2000. I'd grown tired of all the showboating and ridiculous celebrations. Had I still been watching, I certainly would've stopped with the advent of all the political garbage. Major League Baseball forced my hand this season. I'd been a fan of the Brewers for 35 years, but when they started kneeling and doing all that shit, that was it for me. Get woke, go broke.

I wouldn't shed a tear if all the major sports leagues went bankrupt due to all this - they deserve to. Morons.

    The most surreal clip was watching the play with Bart Starr throwing a pass in 3-Rivers against Pittsburgh. This has to be a post-merger game from the early 70's. It's just strange seeing Starr in a game on artificial turf and with his name on his jersey which the NFL did not do in the 60's. I think the only NFL team from the 60's who had astro-turf was Philly in Franklin Field who put it there in '69.

      1. A lot of the tracks that were posted on my DV channel were vinyl rips, and they were posted in the first few months of 2014. I managed to acquire digital upgrades of many of those tracks, but never re-upped them
      2. For the most part - just depends on whether or not TH-cam's copyright database flags the tracks. Most of Spence's tracks would be flagged. I'm currently working on another project however, which will contain some recently unearthed gems straight from the NFL archives which do NOT come up as flagged when uploaded. Stay tuned.
