    I was challenged By Matt from Model Minutes to Build a starter set with just with what comes in the box.. And it was Fun.. I build the Airfix 1/32 Scale VW Beetle, The Volkswagen Beetle is a 60 year old kit so was a challenge especial with using the Cement, Paint and Brushes that was in the box... It was a tough build as the model does look tired and should be on the Airfix Starter Set Retool program..
    So a Build using just a Hairy Stick and I've filmed it for you to watch.. Enjoy

    I think that was quite a tough kit to do this challenge on - that blue paint seemed really difficult to use, but despite all that, it turned out really good given the limitations!

    I think you did a good job, I know from building the Herald that these kits are not the best when it comes to fit and fiddley parts. My impression of yours and please take this in a positive way, it looks like how we would've seen these cars when I learnt to drive in the early 80s, the glue 'lumps' you pointed out would pass for painting over rust, in other words it looks like a car that's been well used rather than straight out of the showroom.

    When i was a teenager, my uncle bought me an Airfix kit of the 32nd scale Austin Maxi. Way back then it cost around 10 shillings (50pence) my first real car, years later was a Maxi and last year I looked for the model again. On the internet i found an actual Maxi 1750 with MOT for £199. I also found an unbuilt model for £438 plus postage. The lesson for today is never dump your old kits.

      some kits hold their value well

  • @Rob99552
    @Rob99552 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That's a good result using just the starter kit contents. I built this kit recently (but using normal full set of tools, paints, airbrush, etc) and it does make a nice quality model, just a shame the glue and paints provided in the starter set are poor as this wouldn't give a new starter to modelling a very good experience.

    I have a feeling that you’d have had better luck with the paint if you washed the kit in soap and water first. It looks to me like there’s still a bit of mold release on the plastic. Look at how the first coat of blue lays on the body of the car. Good video, thanks!

      It was washed matey, then left to dry over night. Then i filmed the video... the beading happened when i thinned the paint to much
      Thanks for watching..
      Just an aside.. I don't normally wash them.. i wipe them down with IPA before the spray work starts,, also the instructions didn't mention washing them so a starter wouldn't know about the release agent.. i felt it more on the wheels and the chassis.. the body was pretty free of release agent surprisingly

    It would be very challenging and discouraging for a new model to attempt something like that with no hopeful Outlook towards the end of their expectations of something wonderful little disappointed myself from what I saw a lot of work for very little show!! Discouragement can destroy the whole idea of being a model Crafter when you have an adult try to do it with what is supplied and has a challenge himself that should tell you something right there it can be a complete turnoff to a young man when patients are short to begin with please work harder on your idea concepts or ease and better outcome of their ambitions help them succeed if they succeed you will succeed!!! And thank you young man for the video that you put together to show this like you did doesn't look much fun to me sure it wasn't for you either even though you are experienced and so am I I would expect a little better than that thank you for your video that you have provided hope this helps I love air airfix but they need to work on a little more to make them more enjoyable for the younger people and professionals thank you and God bless 🙏✌️
