The keyword research tool on Morning Fame has shifted my thoughts and strategies a lot ever since I started using it seriously the last week. I came up with many videos that will be able to rank better and I have a better idea of changing the order of words can help a lot. I won't give up Nico!
High 5 buddy! It‘s super great to hear that all that you learned these days is opening up new opportunities for you. It‘s certainly a steep learning curve to master and I am glad my work adds to the hard work you are putting in!
This is a great explanatory video as I wasn't able to find anywhere, thank you so much !! I really need to get better keywords/titles and finally rank...!
I am glad it helped! Btw, I will publish a video this Saturday where I gor through all the different methods that you learned in this video and many more to find alternative search terms. Cheers, Nico
@@Morningfame Thank you ! I am wondering : when it seems impossible to rank, would targeting the gateway video to appear in their suggested videos by using the same keywords as them be the next best alternative ?
@@paintingandchocolate Sorry, I highly doubt that this nifty trick is still working. That said, I actually made a video answering exactly your question about the next best thing: th-cam.com/video/yskeWuV4f5o/w-d-xo.html

Hi Nico... Thank you so much for sharing your video with us, I wish you a great weekend, best regards!!!
Nice! I was having a hard time finding anything yoga-related to rank in, so I tried your method of exploring a top ranking video for your topic and was able to find "strong arms yoga poses" which gave me a DDEA. Excited to see how it performs!
Thanks a ton Jay! This is indeed an important part of the tool. I just realize I am trying way too often to explain this. Because the green check and especially the gray cross are visually not prominent enough. I found out that many users just overlook them. I just had an idea how to make it pop more. 👍 Thanks for making me think. :)
This was very helpful Nico!! My competition is all about dating and sometimes I feel that no matter what i look for a hit that rock bottom over and over. Great tips!!!
I am glad it helped Ieva! :) Yea, it can be tough. The big channels tend to hog the „easy“ search terms and we small channels need to get creative. But excellent, get your foot in the door! 😃✌️
Indeed, good point Jo! First, your video ranks for the long-tail keyword and if it performs really well it may even make it into the ranks of the short-tail version of it. 👍
MorningFame just makes this so much easier to achieve. Plus it even does the maths for you. It's great for mild dyslexics like me. Those percentages are a godsend!
High 5 Nadia! I am glad you enjoy it. Let me know any time if you have questions about the tool. And fyi, I did a newer version of this video with more info: th-cam.com/video/cDeDsfhgIO0/w-d-xo.html Cheers, Nico
My favorite city is Berlin; especially the Hotel Zoo on Kurfürstendamm - well, with the help of MorningFame I can get back there again soon...first beer is on me.
Hi Jill, it’s so great to see you over here! VidCon was a blast, wasn’t it?! I recommended you Customers Included, right? This really was a eye opener for me. :) Cheers, Nico
My pleasure you guys. :) Many of us small youtubers just face fierce competition. So I had to look into options. Btw, kudos for the success of your Bob Ross video! I watched quite a lot back in the day. Cheers, Nico
That is super neat Pam! Btw, did you see that you can now save your metadata in the Optimize tab? Maybe this makes maintaining your spreadsheet a bit easier. Does your sheet also contain keywords you don’t have the channel authority yet (= bad grades) to rank for it yet but you keep an eye on them to use them once your channel got bigger maybe?
Ah cool on the saving metadata, that will help. And yes the sheet has bad grades too as I am experimenting with things to see if I can sneakily rank even if they are tricky
Absolutely my pleasure Pinoy! Since you are doing vlogs it’s probably not so straight forward to come up with search terms that match your vlog episode. In that case just think from the perspective that TripAdvisor has. What do people want to know about the locations your were at? This way you can pick one part of the vlog episode that helps people to learn about a place, restaurant, tourist attraction and optimize your video around it. Cheers, Nico
Thanks Shannon! Btw, I like your new avatar! Yellow is a great background color. It draws attention but does not have meaning like red has. Danger etc. 😄👌
You are very welcome. :) Fyi, in case you didn’t watch it yet, I did a newer version of this video with additional techniques in it: th-cam.com/video/cDeDsfhgIO0/w-d-xo.html
Great question Scott! There is not really a limit at which you start to belong to large channels. In regards to the keyword lists just select a few keywords and see which grades you get for them in step #3. This way you’ll see if the list for large channels is one that works for you or if you should rather focus on the one for small channels.
Great video Nico! Very useful and informative. I love how you point out that good grades for your search term doesn't = views. It's all about balancing relevancy with low competition 👍
Oh yes, absolutely! I learned that with the tool we don’t do the common mistake anymore of trying to rank for a search term that is just too competitive. But it still can happen that we venture too far off the beaten path and arrive at some keyword that no one searches for. That’s why I am particularly happy about the automatic validation with the green check. :)
Excellent! I see that you are already creating super searchable videos. That‘s just ideal for doing keyword research. Fingers crossed that you get good results! Cheers, Nico
Excellent, I am glad you find it helpful! Btw, I just saw that you achieved as many channel views as I did. Kudos! Your channel is super well suited for searchability. But then you are in a much more competitive niche than I am and you manage to get your foot in the door despite that. 👌
Welcome my friend! Good question! You should definitely have a look at the search terms you already search traffic from. Here is how: th-cam.com/video/WPd_P9LYGmc/w-d-xo.html And I see that you focus a lot on workouts as a whole. You may think outside the box and look for search terms that are about training specific parts of the body. I hope this helps! Cheers, Nico
Hey Nico - I've tried sooooo many different iterations on Morning Fame but it seems nearly impossible to rank for cover songs that have a fixed title and and a fixed artist name. Do you have any suggestions? I'd be more than happy to buy into the service if I could find a way for this to work for my specific area...Thanks!
You are certainly in a difficult situation Carol. It looks to me that you are covering old songs and for those there are always plenty of videos available already. What you would need to do is to think outside the box in regards to your video topic to begin with. One things would be of course to cover songs of less popular bands for which not many videos exist but certainly a fan audience. Then you could look into current trends. Maybe there is a band revival, an anniversary etc. that you could publish a timely video on. And of course, you could broaden you topics by including things that are more tailored to people who learn the piano rather than just the one’s who listen to music. Just a few ideas. I hope that inspires you a bit.
Awesome, I hope it’ll help. :) And if you want to get more help with that, here is a newer version of this video with more practical techniques in it: th-cam.com/video/cDeDsfhgIO0/w-d-xo.html Cheers, Nico
I find it incredibly difficult to rank as a music channel, it makes sense that I don't rank for original songs as people don't search for something they don't know exists, but ranking for covers... damn... I always end up with either an X or E's and F's all over the place but nothing that I do makes it better
I hope looking at your traffic sources helps as I mentioned in my other comment. Btw, did you try to optimize for moods/purposes. I often hear mixes for work / better concentration. So it‘s then not about the artist or song but about the context in which we listen to music.
@@Morningfame I don't really understand what you mean with "moods" I mainly do covers and original songs, not instrumental tracks or anything my top traffic sources (2019 so far) are channel pages, notifications, browse, youtube search and "other"
Nico - First off, thank you so much for your efforts with Morning Fame to help us all improve our channels. I am learning a lot with your content and working hard on applying Morning Fame to help on my channel. Can you define the difference between a large and small channel. Is there a parameter we should keep in mind when making those choices when using Morning Fame? Thanks!
Thank you so much buddy! Great question! We can’t actually draw a clear line. And I would say that a definition of “large” would even vary depending on the niche the channel is in. But in any way, the limit is actually not important. First of all because the grading in the keyword tool adopts to the size of your channel. So no matter of how big it is, the grading will tell you how competitive a keyword is for your channel. And in the Keyword tab where you have the two lists of tags just pick a few keywords from both lists a check the grading you get. I would say the tag list for small channels is your best friend. But I think the tag list for large channels may already have a few good choices for you in store. I hope that helps. :)
Thank you for the rapid reply. Still learning to use MF to its best advantage. I believe I have a small channel so have been using that choice most often. Sounds like it would be ok to also experiment with choices from the large list. Thanks for helping all of us improve our channels!
Of course I understand. Here is how you can do something close to what I showed with free methods: - Suggestions+ -> Use the search bar suggestions on TH-cam by typing in longer terms. - Keyword tab -> Use e.g. TubeBuddy to see the tags of the videos in the search results to find inspiration. I hope this helps!
My issue seems to be that I have very niche topics I get "A" in relevancy but Es and Fs for the other items. I have to almost change the topic completely before a get something that looks safe....for example I wanted to do a video on the Must Have Note 9 accessories and I couldn't do it re-word it to the point of getting atleast Ds but I did do a video got 300 views...which is meh...I guess I saying my keywords and search topic are things before people have a chance to know they need them...how would you suggest using morningfame for things like that....thank you
Tech reviews like these is a super competitive niche. Indeed, it is hard to find an opening there. The longer you research the more openings you will find but it is quite tedious to do. If you want to go for another strategy then focus on trends. Niche specific trends like a new firmware update for some phone etc. When you move quick enough then there is still a void in terms of competition and that os then you chance. Make sure to also click the Google Trends button below the grades in the keyword tool to check if you found a trend. I once did a video that explains this strategy in detail. Just a moment. I‘ll give you the link.
Great question Lavinia! I made a new videos with many more techniques: th-cam.com/video/cDeDsfhgIO0/w-d-xo.html With a channel of your size it is very possible to find search terms with low enough competition when you apply the techniques. And in case you are curious, I recently made a live streams where I took all these techniques and applied them to many different small channels: th-cam.com/video/fYNs1mnLRxw/w-d-xo.html Have a look at the time stamps in the description of the stream to watch it for the channel that is closest to yours. I hope this helps! Cheers, Nico
My pleasure! Indeed, that‘s something that many small youtubers face. Keep it up! The more you get creative in finding great search terms the more you‘ll get your foot into the door of search, build up your ranking power, and the easier it will become to compete. ✌️
Hi Nico and thanks for the video. Is it worth me while to re-title old videos that just did not preform? Would this help to rank them better or is it too late once a video has been uploaded? Ta
My pleasure Harry and Marion! :) Not at all. It is not too later after uploading. Just doing the SEO again for your old videos can really make a big difference. Many of my users already reported seeing amazing results. However, it does not work for every video. I would suggest that you start with a few videos that were once successful but now don’t drive views anymore. Fingers crossed that you can revive them!
Most likely not I am afraid. The X symbol asks you whether the term you are looking at is actually a search term that people use when doing their searches. If not then your video can rank because of the good grades you got but no one will find your video because you are not positioning your video for a search term that people use. In this case you should look for another search term that is actually commonly used. I hope this helps! Cheers, Nico
Question for you Nickol (did I spell that right??) If I find title that is competitive like you mentioned, can I then add a teaser to help grab attention without hurting the ranking? In other words, if it looks like "I phone X tips and tricks" would be a good ranking for me, can I then add "iPhone X tips and tricks | you won't believe these exist!" without screwing up my ranking? I know you touched on it initially, but I am talking about at the end once we have already figured out where the initial title will rank. Does that even make sense what I'm asking??
That makes total sense buddy! You will see that having just “iPhone X tips and tricks” in the title gives you the best relevancy. But adding something at the end to tease is the next best thing relevancy-wise plus it’ll help you win more clicks. Actually Brian G. recently answered this very question in this video: th-cam.com/video/60dvch4Yhak/w-d-xo.html Haha, it’s Nico btw. ;)
Great thanks for the help, and I will Check out Brian G.'s video. Dang it! Now that I see it spelled that way It looks familiar and I have seen it that way in emails. My apologies, I will get it right next time!
Indeed, it’s not that easy sometimes with the fierce competition on TH-cam. I hope this video helped you then. In case you can use some more tips to find less competitive search terms here you go: th-cam.com/video/WPd_P9LYGmc/w-d-xo.html
Great video Nico. Got a suggestion. Would be cool if the latest result on tab 4 could be saved. Had worked for about 45 minutes on that and then my computer crached. Would be awesome to have. Have a great weekend. Greetings from Andreas on Off Grid Sweden.
Oh dude, you are in luck! Just today I released a feature to recover lost data! Hurry, it‘s only recoverable today. Open the keyword tool and go to step 4. There is a list of unsaved metadata now.
Morningfame Great! Thanks Nico. Its probably my lucky day. I cought all the mice I had as you can see in my video and maybe I will get to 2000 subscribers today.
Morningfame Thanks Nico. Yes, I worked hard on that one. I knew what video I wanted to do but its always hard to find search terms where I can show up in search. Mostly they are to competitive or nobody search for it.
Indeed, that‘s a challenge and why I did this video. But the better you know your niche and the more you do keyword research the more good keyword you‘ll uncover!
Both and neither. I am talking about the target search term here which you target with your video. The primary search term for which your video shall rank. When you found and chose one then you can create your metadata around it. The title should begin with this search term and your tags should evolve around the search term by describing the topic people expect when they use this search term in their search. I hope this makes sense. Cheers, Nico
If you ask in regards to TH-cam SEO then don’t worry. The channel name is pretty unimportant for Search. But for the viewers, a descriptive channel name may be helpful to better remember you, or to more quickly understand what your channel is about. “Beyond the Silence” sounds more like something about meditation or some spiritual stuff. Certainly not gardening. So for the viewers, I would choose a more descriptive name.
@@Morningfame I searched a topic and its showed D, D, D, B which is fine.. I then used tubeboddy to check the search result it showed its very low.. Should I go ahead and use it? How will people see the video since its has low search term.... Or my TAGS help in search result sir
Yes, go ahead! In TubeBuddy you probably used the “unweighted” part of their keyword tool, right? Morningfame as well as the “weighted” part of TubeBuddy’s keyword tool do one very important step: they measure the competition relative to your own channel size. As a small channel you can obviously beat only low competition and that is the reason why TubeBuddy’s “unweighted” part show the search term as low. But you have to start low in order to get your foot into the door and then work your way up. Does this make sense to you?
Morningfame dog training I generally is competitive but I have Hunting dogs...i have gotten alot of views on the hunting aspect..i am trying different things to find the best niche... for our Redbone coonhounds.
@@vibsmith555 You are right most of the times. But sometimes the Gateway video itself is from a channel with zero subscribers. You will see as soon as you let’s say get 50 subscribers, SEO in general and the grades in the tool get much easier to get right. In the meantime, I recommend that you add additional growth strategies to your arsenal to bootstrap the growth of your channel. Here they are: th-cam.com/video/yskeWuV4f5o/w-d-xo.html
Great question! Since you are a very small channel, almost all search terms are too competitive for you on TH-cam. And that gets reflected in the bad grades within Morningfame. However, it is not impossible. Have a look how I did the research for a channel with 8 subscribers: th-cam.com/video/fYNs1mnLRxw/w-d-xo.html Feel free to also check out the description of this video in which I link to another useful tutorial that teaches you the techniques I use to find good search terms. Hi Nico, it's Lavinia from Fine Natural Hair ROCKS again - I've been doing this process with my channel and I've noticed some better results (thanks to YOU!💛). The problem however, is that I've noticed that it takes really long to find search terms with DDDA. Is this normal for small youtubers?
I am happy to hear that Lavinia! Indeed, since you are a small channel most search terms are too competitive for you. That will of course change the more your channel grows but nonetheless it doesn’t have to take too long. Here are many different techniques with which you can find alternative search terms. Just like this video but that one is much newer and packed with more techniques that are very useful to speed up the process: th-cam.com/video/cDeDsfhgIO0/w-d-xo.html
hey, it's been a month now and I today I just uploaded the Tanki Online video I said that I would be uploading. Despite the fact that I got ranking tags and I did Tanki Online - not a competitive search term - I didn't rank. I am now really puzzled and don't know what to do. I thought I had it but I didn't.
Unfortunately, the search term “tanki online” is still too competitive for your channel. Since you are still a very small channel you need to look for even less competitive search terms. They are difficult to find of course but keep at it. It’ll pay off.
I have a question regarding competitiveness relative to a niche. If you are in a really small niche would you get a green tick if something is being searched for if the volume is quite small?
Great question! Yes, you will. All is relative. The green check reflects what the search bar suggestions show. And the search bar suggestions show what is commonly used as search terms. What „common“ means really depends on the size of the niche.
Morningfame Is it possible to get a search volume meter for search terms then? It would allow you to more accurately choose between 2 equally competitive search terms so as to pick the one with the most traffic?
Hi Nico thanks for the tips! Just discovered your site and its a really great program! I've spent some time going thru the suggestion+ and soon the letters(A-F) automatically fills up the back of the different suggestions. Is there a way for the whole suggestion+ list to preload the results (A-F)? Feel like it will speed up the process of finding a good title
Thanks a lot buddy! And welcome. :) Sorry, that’s not possible because analyzing each search term to get the grades is too resource intensive to to for just all suggestions. Btw, did you see the “Last Suggestions” link below the search bar. This helps to go back to the last suggestions if you want to check multiple search terms in the same suggestions list.
@@Morningfame oh i see, perhaps a feature in the future then. Oh so thats what the "last suggestions" are.... thats really a great help! thanks alot! By the way, did u develop all the backend software for morningfame too? Its really good! I nvr quite know what im doing wrong with title selection, but im now learning alot more thanks to u. Thanks so much for your youtube lessons!
Absolutely my pleasure! Excellent! Yea, the „Last Suggestions“ is a recent addition that adds to making the use of the tool smoother. Feel free to let me know if you stumble upon some uneven thing repeatedly. I really enjoy polishing these things. Yea, Morningfame is all done by myself. My workload is crazy but over the years it’s cool to see how much is possible to achieve. :) Awesome, I am glad my teachings help you. Niko, thank you for the video. I do have a question? I only have 8 subscribers on my channel so no matter what i put in I almost always get a "E" or "F" rating in 3 of the categories. For relevancy is almost always get an A or B. My subscribers and newsletter clients want to see videos and no matter how i add longtail keywords, morningfame says i will not rank. Do you have any suggestions? I love the programs but I am really struggling.
Hey Meredith, indeed being a very small channel makes it really hard to find search terms. It is very hard to find ones that are not too competitive. Did you see my other videos in the playlist about finding less competitive search terms? th-cam.com/play/PLrkEne1y3F8LjufV9saSRxBzinIPHf6Du.html Those extra techniques may give you an edge. That said, I wouldn’t spends hours to find good search terms. For now you may go for a search term that gives you E grades for example. If you find search terms that give you no F grade then that’s already much better than nothing. With those the chances to rank are quite low unfortunately but a well optimized video this way can go a long way. The video for example may start ranking after a few months when you channel got bigger and it may also be recommended a little bit because the TH-cam algorithm understands your video topic well thanks to the descriptive metadata. I hope this helps!
@@Morningfame Niko, thank you very much for the comment. That does make me feel better. It just feels like a huge uphill battle. But I have to look on the bright side that we just celebrated our 1000 view for our channel. Not to bad for someone who has only been doing it for two months. By the way morningfame is an awesome product!
Absolutely my pleasure Meredith and thanks! Indeed, this is a great start. The beginning is particularly challenging because there are so many things to figure out. You will see that you will have streamlined many things in time and the growth becomes easier. I don’t think it’ll ever get too easy but once you have a considerable fanbase it’ll be just natural that more people come by and become fans as well. Keep up the great work!
@@Morningfame Niko, morningfame has been a great help. I could barely get any views on my videos before but now I am getting brtween 30-50 views in my first week every time with only 8 subs. I have to work on that more but I will be consistent and just keep going forward. Again, I LOVE the program.
Hi Nico - first of all I thoroughly enjoy (and learn from) all your videos, and I look forward to getting the notifications that you've uploaded a new one. Also, since I put out a video almost every day, I've become really addicted to my Morning Fame email on how my video did. But my question has to do with the age of the competition. I notice that you don't seem to factor that in for your calculations. Also is there any boost for 4K or 360 videos in the TH-cam search algorithm? Most of the competition in my niche (Tai Chi) is 3-7 years old, low quality, and not optimized and often without customized thumbnails. I think other small youtubers with a niche might also be facing the same thing. What do you think?
Hi David-Dorian, thank you so much! Great question! Age of the videos: Indeed, TH-cam seems to favor fresh videos. And for that reason I included the age when I analyzed thousands of search results to see how much each aspect factors into the ranking. However, I was not able to find a significant correlation. For that reason I left that aspect out. That said we know that videos with the “New” flag get a ranking boost. But on the other side old videos had a lot of time to accumulate a lot of watch time which is the major ranking juice. It seems that these two forces even out. Boost for special formats like 360: I heard that from Derral Eves as well. I actually didn’t look into it because I am frankly not sure if it creates enough value when including some kind of consideration for that. This would require me to constantly monitor the search algorithm by crunching ranking data. This is too far fetched at the moment. Sorry. Influence of thumbnails: No matter if an exciting video has a great thumbnail or not, what matters for TH-cam is the click-through-rate. Since the video ranks high it obviously got a good click-through-rate. The thumbnail may look bad to your eyes but it did a decent job. Of course, if you create a more intriguing thumbnail for your video then you may win the click more often and with that stay with your video in the top ranks. So keep doing this. That said, it’s not something we can measure unfortunately.
Hey Nico, i always do this and tell everybody sometimes only the year added makes a differents. Hahahah Rodney reviewed my channel while back and even in morningfame i did good. LOL Go small TH-camrs. Thnx for this video buddy.
My pleasure buddy! Indeed, the year added is an easy one and it even works for some other niches. I actually made this video because a handful of user contacted me that they have a hard time finding good keywords. I tried to find some for them myself. And wow, some niches really have it difficult. I thought our niche was competitive. But boy, some other niches are insane. E.g. tech reviews.
Yeah cause there are so many, but you know what i see more and more. I see that big tubers the big big ones 1m subs or a few hunderd thousands they dont add enough tags or good titles and so. They add 1 word or none or a few so the change will be bigger if the smaller tubers make content and good title and tags and description. They focus much on a good thumbnail.
Hey Nico, I used Morningfame and optimised everything to the max on my latest video yet it one of my worest performing videos. The video is about how to inspect a weopan in COD. I don't get youtube 🤷♂️
That is unfortunate to hear. Have a look at my troubleshooting guide. It may point out things that you can improve: morningfa.me/blog/troubleshooting-your-youtube-seo
Thanks. Nico any idea why every soon often TH-cam will flatline my imprrssions to 0 and it either recover or kills off my video. They seems to do this 1 a month as far as i can tell
@@GamingHubbb Most likely this is because of a too weak click-through rate and/or average view duration. If the competing videos are just better in these regards then your videos lose that competitive game. If that makes sense to you then I’d recommend that you work on improving your thumbnails and audience retention.
@@Morningfame ok cool that makes sense. Some of the video it happen to were very successful and they killed off with at least 60% retention but i think it obvious there is plenty of content and it is a competitive area is gaming.
every day I spend about 30 minutes typing in search terms just to try to get something decent... but Everything either has an X or all fffs.... I have searched 1000s and still only have like 3 that are ok
unless I am just crazy... photography, pictures, photos, images and everyother word I can think of crush me... I think I have watched ever video you have made.
I am sorry to hear that Jeffrey! Photography is indeed very competitive but I hope you’ll find more search terms nonetheless. Did you watch the other videos in my playlist of how to find less competitive search terms? th-cam.com/play/PLrkEne1y3F8LjufV9saSRxBzinIPHf6Du.html I hope that inspires you with some techniques and ways to think outside the box. It’s not your program it’s just my brain can’t come up with then and I have watched almost all Your videos cause I love you guys! I’m still chugging along at it and making content. It will happen for me it will just take more time
Indeed, it’s a rather creative process to come up with fitting search terms to begin with. The last video in the playlist above is actually a live stream from Brian G. and he shows a few techniques to discover more search terms. Maybe that helps. Yes, keep at it! 😃✌️
Thanks Nico! Awesome video...I feel like it was made for me! 🤣 I was always a great student but I am now failing the grade system horribly 🤣 My channel is too tiny and the field I’m in super competitive 😥 I’m going to try these new tips!
Morningfame YES! I did! And I find it delightfully unbelievable that right after I asked you for help you respond with a super helpful video! You do understand that I’ve tried many tools similar to your and NOT ONE OF THEM has even been nearly as helpful as you! I was floored by the fact that you even responded to my email questions not only did you do that but then you take it even further by making this awesome video to provide further assistance! 😊 Can I ask if you have wings? Because I feel like you are just an angel from heaven! 🤣
They are actually mentioned in the footnote below the grades. It’s basically a warning that you probably will be underwhelmed by the views you can get via this search term.
That is Morningfame. Here is an invite for you in case you want to give it a try: morningfa.me/keyword-tool/invite/ytchannel And of course if you do, let me know any time if you have any questions about it. Cheers, Nico
So, I'm doing researcher because I want to create a new channel. Since my channel has no videos I obviously get a F grade throughout. Can I have better than an F grade with no videos on my channel or can I assume that all searches will be F?
Hi Artus, yes. You‘ll get only Fs. Sorry the tool is not designed to give you grades when there are no videos on your channel yet. However, here is what you can do: Look for search terms for which you get an A for relevance. And in addition to that keep an eye on the numbers of the Gateway video which are shown in the bar charts below the grades. Make sure that the Gateway video has less than 500 subscribers and less than 500 views. If that is the case then this search term is worth a shot. I am giving you these numbers because TH-cam is giving your channel a certain initial channel authority when you start your new channel. It‘s hard to tell how much it is but these numbers reflect what I learned from looking at new channels. I hope this helps. Cheers to new beginnings! Nico
Thank you for the tips. I'm finding the tool quite useful and intuitive, and actually I am finding some E's even though my channel has no vids. Any suggestion for what a Search Volume Level of 66 might mean in real terms of searches or how its calculated?
Thanks buddy! I am glad to hear that. The search volume number has no meaning by itself. Its primary purpose is to allow you to compare two search terms. Have a look at this very short explainer: Morningfame’s Search Volume Levels th-cam.com/video/gQWTc677BTY/w-d-xo.html Also in the comments there is a hearted comment which gives you more details. 😃✌️
Sorry, no. Having those Fs means that the search term is too competitive for you and thus even highly optimized metadata won‘t help. Check out the other videos about how to find less competitive search terms: Your search terms are too competitive? Here is what you can do. th-cam.com/play/PLrkEne1y3F8LjufV9saSRxBzinIPHf6Du.html I hope that helps!
I did a cover of Avril Lavigne's song Tell me it's over... every search term I tried gets an X mark or it's all in red the best one I found is: avril lavigne tell me it's over cover but the score is D F D A so too much competition also I get no useful suggestions: avril lavigne tell me it's over guitar cover (it's on piano but that makes the search term bad again) tell me it's over avril lavigne male cover (I'm a whaman! so using female instead makes it bad again) avil lavigne tell me it's over cover espanol (not in spanish) wth do I do???
That’s indeed a tough spot to be in Josephine! Making cover songs for famous artists is of course competitive. And another angle of what kind of search terms to use is probably not an option. Like regarding karaoke as we discussed in the last stream. But there is a solution that I bet will work: Do keyword research without a specific song in mind and just look for cover song search terms for any artist and sonf you can think of. Among these there will be search terms that have low enough competition. Likely from less famous artists. But that is a good start still. Then you can make the cover song of that artist and song. It of course decides which songs your cover but that’s then your foot in the door.
Hey Nico! I'm JUST starting my TH-cam channel so I only have 3 subscribers. I'm finding that every single keyword is too competitive! I can't find anything with a D grade, it's all F's. What do I do?
Great question Katie! It’s indeed not easy for a very small channel like yours. From your point of view almost all competition just looks very high and that gets reflected in the bad grades. But good news: I did a newer video like this one which teaches you many more techniques: th-cam.com/video/cDeDsfhgIO0/w-d-xo.html And then not too long ago I did a live stream in which I did the research for many small channels using these techniques. Here for example for a channel with 8 subs: th-cam.com/video/fYNs1mnLRxw/w-d-xo.html Of course, it takes a lot of practice to apply these techniques especially when you are small. So I recommend that you add the following strategies to your mix so that you can bootstrap your grows: th-cam.com/video/yskeWuV4f5o/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps!

I love the new updates! And this is a great explanation of making sure you have that validated check if you actually want people searching for it! :)
Thanks a ton Jay! This is indeed an important part of the tool. I just realize I am trying way too often to explain this. Because the green check and especially the gray cross are visually not prominent enough. I found out that many users just overlook them. Thanks Nico. its such a useful tool, I have a whole spreadsheet of new terms to try and rank for
That is super neat Pam!
Nice! If you learn a sneaky technique please let me know! 😃✌️
I will do of course :)
Thanks for sharing this! So now im getting an idea on how to make my title easy to search on youtube. Keep it up. 👍👍👍

Hey Nico, what is a big channel and what is a small channel? I'm talking about the page that provides suggested search terms. This video is fantastic.
Great question Scott! There is not really a limit at which you start to belong to large channels. In regards to the keyword lists just select a few keywords and see which grades you get for them in step #3. This way you’ll see if the list for large channels is one that works for you or if you should rather focus on the one for small channels.
@@Morningfame Will do thank you sir.

Oh yes, absolutely! I learned that with the tool we don’t do the common mistake anymore of trying to rank for a search term that is just too competitive. But it still can happen that we venture too far off the beaten path and arrive at some keyword that no one searches for. Hello do you have any advise for fitness because i search hours everyday for a search term and comes up with F s can you advise???
Super helpful thank you!

@@Morningfame I don't really understand what you mean with "moods" I mainly do covers and original songs, not instrumental tracks or anything
my top traffic sources (2019 so far) are channel pages, notifications, browse, youtube search and "other"
Did you give my review in the stream today a better idea?
Morningfame it was interesting for sure! Thank you!
My pleasure! I hope you can find some good search terms after all. Let me know if you have further questions along the way.
Absolutely my pleasure buddy! Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers, Nico

Can you make this tutorial but using Google and TH-cam? Not everybody can afford for that website that you use after a free trial.
Of course I understand. Here is how you can do something close to what I showed with free methods:
- Suggestions+ -> Use the search bar suggestions on TH-cam by typing in longer terms.
- Keyword tab -> Use e.g. TubeBuddy to see the tags of the videos in the search results to find inspiration.
I hope this helps!
Superb video man! Exactly what I did for my video that's accumulated over 82k views now!
Perfect, high 5! Your niche is actually really competitive so kudos for finding your keyword!
Morningfame 👊🙏

If you have the X symbol after the keyword (keyword not searched by users) but still have As, can I use this keyword for my vid ?
Most likely not I am afraid. The X symbol asks you whether the term you are looking at is actually a search term that people use when doing their searches. If not then your video can rank because of the good grades you got but no one will find your video because you are not positioning your video for a search term that people use. In this case you should look for another search term that is actually commonly used. I hope this helps! Cheers, Nico
Question for you Nickol (did I spell that right??)
If I find title that is competitive like you mentioned, can I then add a teaser to help grab attention without hurting the ranking?
In other words, if it looks like "I phone X tips and tricks" would be a good ranking for me, can I then add "iPhone X tips and tricks | you won't believe these exist!" without screwing up my ranking?
I know you touched on it initially, but I am talking about at the end once we have already figured out where the initial title will rank. Does that even make sense what I'm asking??
That makes total sense buddy! You will see that having just “iPhone X tips and tricks” in the title gives you the best relevancy. But adding something at the end to tease is the next best thing relevancy-wise plus it’ll help you win more clicks. Actually Brian G. recently answered this very question in this video: th-cam.com/video/60dvch4Yhak/w-d-xo.html
Haha, it’s Nico btw. ;)

Congrats for reaching 2K subs just now!!! Wow, your mouse trap is clearly optimized perfectly. 👌 Excellent title in particular!
Morningfame Thanks Nico. Yes, I worked hard on that one. I knew what video I wanted to do but its always hard to find search terms where I can show up in search. Mostly they are to competitive or nobody search for it.
Indeed, that‘s a challenge and why I did this video. But the better you know your niche and the more you do keyword research the more good keyword you‘ll uncover!
is this for titles or tags?
Both and neither. I am talking about the target search term here which you target with your video. The primary search term for which your video shall rank. When you found and chose one then you can create your metadata around it. The title should begin with this search term and your tags should evolve around the search term by describing the topic people expect when they use this search term in their search. I hope this makes sense. Cheers, Nico
I have new channel plant trees related but I choose channel name
(Beyond the Silence)
Is this name good or bad?
If you ask in regards to TH-cam SEO then don’t worry. The channel name is pretty unimportant for Search. But for the viewers, a descriptive channel name may be helpful to better remember you, or to more quickly understand what your channel is about. “Beyond the Silence” sounds more like something about meditation or some spiritual stuff. Certainly not gardening. So for the viewers, I would choose a more descriptive name.
Am so happy thanks so much

Yes, go ahead! In TubeBuddy you probably used the “unweighted” part of their keyword tool, right? Morningfame as well as the “weighted” part of TubeBuddy’s keyword tool do one very important step: they measure the competition relative to your own channel size. As a small channel you can obviously beat only low competition and that is the reason why TubeBuddy’s “unweighted” part show the search term as low. But you have to start low in order to get your foot into the door and then work your way up. Does this make sense to you?
Thank you 👌💯

does the subscriber bar (first) always show zero if i dont have any subscribers?
Yes, it is showing your channel‘s subscribers. Hence zero. Do you wonder about something specific in this regard?
@@Morningfame i guess then all bars will show red except relevancy
@@vibsmith555 You are right most of the times. But sometimes the Gateway video itself is from a channel with zero subscribers. hey, it's been a month now and I today I just uploaded the Tanki Online video I said that I would be uploading.
@@Morningfame thankyou, ill try that
I have a question regarding competitiveness relative to a niche.
I am not yet finished designing that but yes, I am thinking about exactly that decision step. ✌️
Morningfame Fantastic! I look forward to seeing that! :)
Thanks
My pleasure! :)
In regards to titles, check out these two videos that give you great approaches to write them: th-cam.com/play/PLrkEne1y3F8JZZynGYmuoICrqToKhTex5.html
hello. This is a great video. However can you please explain to me why you have fewer views even you use this tools and techniques?
Thanks buddy. I am happy with my growth actually. Keep in mind that growing a channel is a lot of work.
You did not reply to my question.
So interesting sir
My pleasure buddy!
Indeed, for big channels it‘s just a different game!
Are there maybe photography terms that every student learns when preparing to become a professional? Maybe that is a source for inspiration as well.
It’s not your program it’s just my brain can’t come up with then and I have watched almost all
Your videos cause I love you guys!
There’s nothing that will stop me. Lol. Just get frustrated at times.
Thanks Nico! Awesome video...I feel like it was made for me! 🤣 I was always a great student but I am now failing the grade system horribly 🤣 My channel is too tiny and the field I’m in super competitive 😥 I’m going to try these new tips!
Awesome! Haha, could it be that you asked me about finding keywords before? A few people asked me that and therefore I did this video. ✌️
Hahaha, you flatter me! 🤣 Well, those who ask the best questions get my full attention. High 5! See you my friend. :)
High Five! Next time you hear from me I will be getting better grades! Ha!
That‘s the spirit! 😃👍
Why do question marks come up for the grades sometimes?
They are actually mentioned in the footnote below the grades. It’s basically a warning that you probably will be underwhelmed by the views you can get via this search term.
I hope one of these days I could be one of your success stories haha
You never know. Success may already come with your next video. Keep at it! And fingers crossed. :)
thanks
My pleasure. :)
what is the application that you are using to find the keywords ,what website it is?
Can you still rank if you get all Fs but on relevancy get an A?
Nico, is this tool working in other languages other than English?
Hi Zdravko, absolutely. Which language are you looking for? Creating Russian metadata for example is possible.
Morningfame thanks, Nico! My other channel is in Bulgarian and such tool would be very valuable.
Yes, Bulgarian does work. Feel free to give it try and let me know if you stumble upon some unexpected special cases.
I did a cover of Avril Lavigne's song Tell me it's over...
every search term I tried gets an X mark or it's all in red
the best one I found is: avril lavigne tell me it's over cover
but the score is D F D A so too much competition
also I get no useful suggestions:
avril lavigne tell me it's over guitar cover (it's on piano but that makes the search term bad again)
tell me it's over avril lavigne male cover (I'm a whaman! so using female instead makes it bad again)
avil lavigne tell me it's over cover espanol (not in spanish)
wth do I do???
@@Morningfame that's actually a great idea!
Excellent! Let me know how it goes! 🤞😃
Thank you, Nico!! I appreciate your help!
The unspoken message here is..... DO NOT PRODUCE FIRST. Use research first with Morningfame.
Cheers to that! Haha, subliminal messaging. ;)
