In America the holidays did not stop when it was in involved with Vietnam for 19 years or Afghanistan for 20 . People bought trees and gifts, cities put up lights. I do wish for peace in 2025, some American cities could learn a few things from how the Moscow system operates. What Russians first notice when visiting the states is the trash. Maybe the bad transit systems second. Will things get better after J20? One can only hope. They can't get worse. Awesome video.
@melodyangel3244 I visited New York at the end of October and was very surprised at the cleanly. I was based in Times Square and the street cleansing team were out all night. Everywhere we went was clean. The subway also I found good. Compared to London which is so dirty and the people generally rude.

You are so kind to explain to some people what is obvious to most people in America. It was soooooo beautiful and you were a wonderful ambassador of Russia for the world to see. The decorations are exquisite and beautiful. We have similar decorations in Washington DC, but this year because of the inauguration, it is less decorated. They instead set up benches, lights, fencing and security for the Presidential Inauguration. I love the green fuzzy bear. adorable!

Valeria, Happy New Year. I was one of those upset at all the large celebration - the lights, gorgeous decorations and large displays. Not because of you but the paradox of celebrating peace and joy while a neighbor is being brutally destroyed. I managed to leave the USSR in the '80s but still have some good memories, though not of Moscow which does not seem "Russian" to me anymore. Russia is old, colorful buildings, churches, winter snow, landscapes, great music, the smell of holiday food, tiny apartments, warm scarves (I had several). My wife and I visited in 2007 and what impressed her was not the malls, fancy cars or huge hotels. It was GUM, St Basil's, the "lock" bridge and the ice cream (!) that we can't get in the West. Hoping for a peaceful year for all.
