It's a pretty simple reason. Year round pitching, mixing in velocity camps, weighted training balls, and increased number of games at the travel/youth level where all these kids think they need to throw 95 in high school is resulting in TJ surgery earlier and earlier. I'm in the thick of it with my kid and almost every team has a kid on their roster who can't pitch because their elbow/shoulder is hurt. This was never the case growing up pre-travel ball explosion. It's an unfortunate circumstance where if your kid wants to play at a college, or even a large high school, you have to put in the time year round.
My son just transferred from one of the top teams in the country (Trinity league team) to another D1 school in the area. He’s a 2 way player and despite a sub 2.00 ERA in all his seasons, was beat out by other velocity guys (usually single and double holdbacks). He’s a change speeds, hit spots, movement pitcher who sits 84 to 86 as a true junior) What’s funny is that he’s the 3 hitter at his new school and loves hitting the velocity guys that throw in the 90’s because that’s what they rely on and throw the most. The guys that actually pitch vs “throw” are much harder to hit hard. I think the MLB is going to go with the Maddux vs the Chapman in the future. Longer careers and less IR costs. I could have gone much more in depth but you know what I’m saying.
Already got my 3-year-old on an extreme lifting program geared for pitching. I wake him up evey morning by whispering, "Mass equals gas," into his ear. His first Tommy John surgery is already scheduled for his 12th birthday.

So sad that they really don’t care if they just use and abuse them because they don’t need to care
Bro these pitchers need to chill
