  • This video shows how you can produce a ground fault at the FACP by placing one of your leads from the meter on either the + or - side of the NAC wires and the other lead on a ground source so you can produce a ground fault trouble on the panel.

    He is creating a ground fault condition to see if panel will recognize an actual fault due to field wiring issue. If panel does not recognize a true fault condition. Then most likely. Then the ground reference was removed or cut depending on what kind of system your serviceing. For some techs that are just now getting into full time service work. The diode check is very effective on troubleshooting modules on an SLC loop or an AV circuit with a bad device. The way he is creating a ground fault is very smart.
    I am an old school fire alarm technician that services conventional and addressable systems. Even serviced panels that use EOL DIODES instead of resistor. That's how long I've been doing this crap! BUT I love what do.
    Just remember, everytime your installing or service a fire alarm system. Your saving lives!!!!

    Great video. Can you more different tests that can be useful to know. Further , could continuity or ohms scale on the meter have the same result ?

    Hello, how are you? I'm Joverci Ribeiro, I live in Brazil, this video helped me a lot, I would like to know how I can generate the following flaws in the notifire panel:
    Open Circuit Failure;
    Short Circuit Failure.
    I need to put these tests in the reports, I will be grateful for helping. thankful

    wait, did I miss something here? were you just testing to see if the panel would recognize a fault? I thought you were testing an actual fault?

      HOW TO DO (Make, Create) A GROUND FAULT CHECK.........................................with your multimeter. With Johnson Controls this test is sometimes required for your report. You must know how to test the fire panel ground fault or create a ground fault within the fire panel. As he clearly showing on this video. If he was fixing a ground fault within the panel the panel would of have been displaying that trouble.

    The meter was set to a DIODE TEST (i.e., gives a low resistance path through the meter to ground when connected)

    • @Xxxcappie23
      @Xxxcappie23 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I barely noticed that. So you saying the meter was actually set to DIODE . Would continuity or ohms scale do the trick too ?

      The symbol of “arrow pointing to plus sign” is the symbol for a diode. Why this person is working on a live system without knowing that is a worry.

    couldn't you just use a piece of wire or anything conductive from one lead to a ground source?

  • @venugpal7680
    @venugpal7680 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You can't do this. Either you should off the panel or remove the cables ,which you want have to test ground fault.

  • @guesswhomartin9249
    @guesswhomartin9249 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe I'm slower than everybody here, But aren't you causing a ground fault ? We're suppose to look for the ground fault, not create one. Take the wires off the panel, And meter for the ground fault.

    • @djjammindave
      @djjammindave 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cables not need to be removed if you are creating a ground fault.

      FIRE ALARM TESTING COMPANIES WORK IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS, SOME COMPANIES REQUIRED FOR THE TECHNICIAN, TO CREATE A GROUND FAULT OF THE FACP AS REQUIRED ON THE TECHNICIANS REPORT. JOHNSON CONTROLS IS ONE OF THOSE COMPANIES, UNLESS THEY STOP DOING IT.

    • @guesswhomartin9249

      @@djjammindave ... I'd have to disagree.
      I was taught different.
      I've been in the industry a very long time.
      Over the yrs I've learned; there are many different types of technicians. They all have their way of doing things.
      I have worked with some; they make for work for themselves.
      There's a thing called working hard, and there's a thing called working smart.
