Prosecutors have to build a case. They will start with easy and solid charges in order to get the suspect jailed/convicted and will take time with something like an assassination attempt. In other words, expect more charges to be added as those cases are put together.
Drug laws with disproportionate sentences were specifically made to target minorities.

Yes, hearings like this are part of the court process and have been for a long time. It's nothing new and affords the accused to argue for pre trial bail. Everyone gets that right even though evidence of guilt is obvious or may be obvious.

The firearms charges are pointless
They probably can't get him on attempted murder or attempted assassination, since he fired no shots. They can get him on conspiracy, now that they found the note. He's probably going to face the gun charges and conspiracy to commit murder, and maybe even attempting to to hire a hit man, with the 100k reward mentioned in the latter. He'll likely go to prison for a long time, but not long enoug, as this might not result in life without parole. However, Florida intends to go after him as well. State law tends to be a bit more flexible, so they'll hammer him with a lot of state charges. It still might not be life without parole, but both federal and state charges would probably push any parole hearing until after his natural lifespan. Prisoners would likely not get access to life extension, if it became available.
