About hitchhiking ghosts: in the Philippines, we have a superstition called "pagpag" (literal meaning: to brush off or shake off dust) where on the way home from a cemetery, we have to stop off somewhere so any ghosts stay there instead of following us home. 24/7 convenience stores and fast food chains are the most popular choices for this practice lol.

New Orleans square is so full of mystery and backstory, all the rides there feel so immersive. The Mansion is definitely the most immersive experience of all Disney rides for me.
I was reading that at one time they wanted the raven to be the host or something to that effect. When I was a child in the 70s, I noticed that with the exception of the entry way and the stretching room, a raven is always nearby when the Ghost Host speaks (and a raven was in the concept art for those two rooms). So it made sense to me that the Raven was carrying the Ghost Hosts spirit, he's even watching you as you leave the attic. Creepy.
I always headcannoned that the man in the coffin is 100% alive and has been trapped there by the less-benevolent residents of the mansion, as a hold-over from one of the earlier mansion concepts I'm sure we're all already familiar with. As for the ballroom, I always assumed that the two dueling portraits were the two "victims of a dirty duel" whose tombstones we can find in the queue.
As the ballroom I was ashamed the two of the darling pictures into victims of the dirty dirty ordeal duel worst tombstone we could have felt in the cute q u e e u e.
Not sure if you're late for the anniversary, early for Halloween, or right on time for Friday the 13th. Whichever it is though, it's always a treat to return to the mansion!

I love all your Haunted Mansion videos especially when it's a history video, but I have a question for you, have you ever read the Tales From The Haunted Mansion books. It's a bunch of stories told by the Mansion's librarian about it's residents. There are 4 book and they are really good. This video just reminded me of them and I thought you might be interested.

It was supposed to be the skeleton falling to the floor and braking into pieces. Except that you do not see any bones on the floor. Maybe the skeleton is actually a phantom and the real ghost host skeleton is still in its grave?

In one of the Haunted Mansion comics I have, the ghost holding the candles down the corridor and the zombie trying to escape the coffin were actually partners in building the mansion. But they wanted the fame of building the mansion for themselves. So the trapped each other in the mansion with no way out. The coffin zombie was, obviously, trapped in the coffin and left to die, while the ghost holding the candles was led through a maze of corridors, never to find his way out. Pretty dark, but it was a good issue!!!

The Hellhound might actually be a Grim. There's an old legend that the first person buried in any new cemetery must work as the guardian of that graveyard and help guide new arrivals into the Beyond. No one really wanted to be stuck with this job, so the community would sacrifice a dog and bury it in the new place, thus created a Grim.
Little Leoata is holding what are obviously cala lillies. A traditional Victorian era graveside flower offering for the remembrance of the dead. Not bundles of herbs.
Another hitchhiking ghost comes from Japanese folklore. If you happen to see a dead cat (or other animal) in the road, you are NOT to think, and especially not to say, "Aw, poor thing." The ghost of the cat will sense your sympathy, latch on to you, and follow you home where it will take up residence in your house as a "bake-neko" (this name is for cats only).
In the Haunted Mansion game, you can actually fight the head spirits that come out of the organ. The make a hollow gasping sound which really frightened me as a kid. For ghosts such as the candelabra and the coffin, along with some of the later ballroom and party I like the story’s told in the slave labour graphics comic. I know a lot don’t like them or what the came up with but I always felt they added a lot to the ride.
Thank you for talking about the candle-holding gargoyles in the stretching portrait room elevator. I had no idea that they whisper to each other or to the guests, or that they taunt the guests or laugh at the guests or any of this. The impression that I am getting is that they only whisper to each and to guests etc. at Walt Disney World (and possibly at Euro-Disneyland and the Japanese Haunted Mansion) - possibly another Disney World exclusive - as the candle-holding gargoyles at Disneyland do not appear to whisper to each other or to the guests or taunt the guests etc. I have never heard them do that at Disneyland and I've never heard even rumors about them doing any of that at Disneyland before. There is no doubt about it: if the gargoyles at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion did any of that stuff then it would have mentioned by now. I really find this exciting and I can't wait for part 2 you and Fastpass Facts should do a Haunted Mansion Origins 3 on Jean Lafitte where he fits in with Pirates of The Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion as they are both connected together Attractions I look forward to next week
I've been binging your videos of the haunted mansion for entire night, just wanted to say THANK YOU FOR MAKING THEM it's nice hearing about the history and lore of basically a theme park ride
My other favorite video on youtube about the Haunted Mansion, like a whole history/making-of documentary has apparently been removed and I can't find it anywhere which sucks but this is a pretty good stand-in as well.
