- Here is the full video of what went into rebuilding and riding the most legendary freeride mountain bike drop in Southern California. Back in 2002-2003 Wade Simmons and Josh Bender went out to ride this masssive drop from seen in the Terrafirma video series and little did they know they would change freeride mountain biking forever. 20 years later I set out to revive the massive step down gap after nobody has attempted to. It was a lot of work to get it going and with a very short window with weather conditions and a deadline for a video project I wasn't going to waste any time. Hoping to secure an invite to this years Redbull Rampage I wanted to do something that would go unnoticed. Click play and watch the full behind the scenes of what it took to make this happen. @@ashleytombs Well, I'm a 34 year old Canadian, NWD was my daily inspiration to go out and throw myself off of anything locally. Bender and Simmons were my idols growin' up lol
All of those riders you mentioned are a pivotal part of the Freeride scene, NWD3 is hands down one of the most iconic MTB films of all time in my opinion

Damn this video went hard, love the vlogy / "taking us on the journey" format. It works incredibly well for freeride excursions.
I had the privilege of meeting, riding, and hanging out with Wade at the 2001 Pedros Fest in Connecticut and it was one of the best wknds.I can remember. I remember asking him what the gnarliest jump he ever did was and he said he hadn't done it yet. He was eyeing up some massive drop on So. Cal. and that it would be epic if he pulled it off. 2 - 3 years later we all saw the photos in Bike magazine. Calmest, coolest, and most subdued crazy mofo I ever met.
Such a great project and what a JUMP💪🚴 Besides Simmons and Bender Back in the day the at this time unknown youngster Carlin Dunne did this gap on his MTB and used the footage for his entry video in the UFC freeride Video Challenge. Later he also became a freeride legend with record Drops and NWD Video Segments. He did while motocycle racing a few years ago :( RIP Carlin Dunne. Stark for Rampage👍

@@boooyaaababy651 I am Not 100 percent Sure, but I can't remember the dropin Bus visiting California for this gap. I think they were Touring around in British Columbia. Romanuik did some huge Road gaps too for Sure.

What a mission. When the GoPro shot from the top right before he went played, I got that huge adrenaline rush of "this might be insane, but it may be death" we all feel right before doing some unthinkable sht. I wasn't even doing the drop and I got that feeling. I can't imagine how you felt. And then you did a fatty tuck-no down it? You're a madlad. We knew that, but it's so much more of a fact than I think most of us remember after seeing this video. Congratulations, Dylan. You must have had a gnarly mental battle when you were up there and came out victorious. I can't see how this wouldn't earn you another invite to Rampage. One of the most insane MTB freeride (Or just MTB period) videos of the year, if not the decade. Well done, brother. Really amazing riding.

25:58 believe me if you have a close call in a huge jump just call it a day, I was testing out a jump and my first run was so sketchy and terrifying. I wish I call it a day, second try I landed on a bush and went over the bars for 10ft and tear every single ligament in my collarbone. After a year I’m finally recovered, your second attempt seemed absolutely terrifying I’m happy you decided to call it a day. Congrats for such an amazing and INSANE jump. Not only you did it once but twice and with a suicide hander on the second one wow. Good stuff 👌

Stark is such an incredible bike handler. Hes also a excellent judge of how to approach a drop or jump for the first time. part of why i believe he hasn't had the career ending injuries so many others get. Great judgment and great rider. still went fuggin 15 feet past the sweet spot of what was already going to be a slammer. taking an impact is a skill all on its own. Dylan got it all. Rampage 23!

Okay, if this stunt alone doesn't get Dylan a invite to Rampage, then whoever at Redbull is in charge of that, should be fired. For real, that is one massive drop with a gnarly landing, not to mention the unpredictable wind gusts, as well. And the fact that after doing it once, he goes back for seconds and pulls a tuck no-hander!? That was legendary, plain and simple.
