If u liked this version, watch the live version! In the live one u can see what he is able to do with his breath control. Same song, completely different somehow and the hell his breath control...
Some others I think he'll like.. Murderer studio & acoustic, Castles Made of Sand (Bandcamp), The Hunger (for the flows and technicals) Losing It (EDM/House beat from producer Fisher). 😊
I understand that but it’s still a beat selection in the sense that I’m sure he makes multiple beats and that was the one he chose to write this specific song to. We both know he’s talented enough to get his point across with only a guitar so this was unexpected and highly appreciated !!!
He writes MOST of his beats. He got a couple hip hop beats off beat stars for inspiration for Sick Boi. Which led to his issue with Kujo Beats and why he made the song Kujo Beat Down. But I freaking love the beat on this one so much! Check out the acoustic version of this song also!
go and listen to "Regulate" by Warren G.. you'll be surprised .. or not.. spoiler alert: a person gets murdered in the late night. And tajd in mind that Ren in one of his streams refered to Nate Dogg as the GOAT if you needed a hook back in 2000's
You asked about Ren's influences... they're all over the map, truly. But for some clues to specifics in rap - Ren has a Halftime (Nas Retake) where he rapped over the Halftime beat... and then in it he mentioned a handful of other rappers that including Biggie, Mac Miller, 2Pac and I think Lil Peep. There's also a clip from a twitch stream up where he was just randomly singing different things that popped into his head and he did a bit of 50 cent and talked some about 50 and Nate Dogg and how great they were (he also sang Elvis, an original, House Of The Rising Sun... lol). I believe it was another 50 rap he did in the busking video with Sam Tompkins where they freestyled over a Stevie Wonder riff. That's all the oldschool references I can think of off the top of my head, though I'm sure there's more. Hope that helps!
Oop... he also mentions Eminem here and there, which is probably an obvious one. I love his little one minute 16 Bar Challenge he did over an Em beat, too, during lockdown.
Ren's influences are all over the map, but if we're talking straight hip-hop, let me start by saying I'm an old head, and was skeptical of this kid at first, but he's made a believer out of me for sure!! He's a true student of the culture, he's studied it thoroughly and respects it, not sure I could pick one specific artist, but he most definitely has a special place in his heart for 90's East Coast Hip-hop. The street performance you guys referred to, is a mash-up of Bob Marly, another song by Ziggy Marley and Nas, and the last song is a track by Dead Prez, called "Hip-Hop", they were big in the NY underground scene in the 90s. Of course Ren has the track from earlier this year that's a tribute to Nas, where he raps over beat of "Halftime" which was on Nas's iconic illmatic album. Ren's also a huge fan of Rage Against The Machine, the god fathers of rap-rock, who don't get much recognition from the rap community, but Zack De la Rocha, the lead singer, is truly a great lyricist and dope spitter, if you guys have never checked out RATM, you REALLY SHOULD!! But DON"T start with "killing in the name of", it's a banger, but very little lyrics, start with "Take The Power Back" or "Down Rodeo" (row-day-oh, like Rodeo drive in LA) Great reaction guys, keep up the good work!! ✌💚
Enjoyed this reaction. I think your guest shows good understanding of this track. Its simplicity belies the intricacy of the production. Liked his original song too. Thanks ❤ Subbed for more and to go through your previous Ren reactions - wish they were chronological tho’. Gonna have to guess what your own progression and understanding of this artist.
Really love the song Julius especially the middle was beautiful… love the reaction… there are a few different Genesis videos acoustic and drum and bass. Thanks guys really enjoyed! 🫶🏻
10 Generations is so good. Great lyrics. ❤Ren has so many influences in Hip hop. Nas, Eminem, 50 cent, Lauryn Hill, Kendrick, Nate Dogg, Sean Paul just to name a few. Ren produced, engineers mix and masters and directs on this and on most of his tracks. There's around 4 tracks on his album Sick Boi, that he bought beats for. Even on those, he layers, adds adlibs & tweaks. 😊
Kendrick is one of my favorites and he definitely reminds me of him in the aspect of his ability to tell other peoples stories and his willingness to be anti political
Recommendation, if there are more than one version, Official and Live/Acoustic, do the official first then react to the live, same video. The differences between the 2 show a different dimension into Ren's art. With Blind Eyed (Ren x Sam Tompkins), there are 4 versions, must see the Angry Car Park Attendant version, but all 4 are excellent. Mushy peas is just that - mushed up peas. Many Americans think it's guacamole. LOL
Ren's got a 30 minute video up explaining the entire situation (with receipts) but the shortest version possible is that Ren bought a Kujobeats beat for Sick Boi from Beatstars. After Ren went viral and blew up two issues cropped up - the publisher wasn't correctly paying Kujo (which put Ren in breach despite it not being his fault) and Kujo had put an unlicensed sample in the beat and the sample owners came for their money (which put Kujo in breach). Ren didn't know about any of it and Kujo didn't like the way Ren's lawyer was handling the situation so made a claim on the Sick Boi video, getting the video pulled and Ren's channel a copyright strike supposedly "to get his attention". In the end, Kujo tried to extort Ren for a better arrangement instead of just straightening out the initial agreement. Ren got pissed off and cut the whole thing off - he pulled the Sick Boi audio from all platforms so he both couldn't be extorted and to cut Kujo off from any future money even though it was a big financial hit for himself. Then Ren got an in person meet with the CEO of TH-cam and got the video reinstated - but Ren's going to redo Sick Boi with a new self-made beat and when that's finished he'll take down the video and replace it, too. (There was more drama than that, some including Kujo's girlfriend getting involved... it was a big stressful mess Ren handled with so much class)

For the majority of his songs. Not every song for example “Sick Boi”.

Please, Do the Money Game Trilogy next. 🙏🏻
We did money game trilogy it’s coming out soon !!!!
Fish and chips with mushy peas.
I think his sickness is his true influence. But he mentions a vast array of styles music, such as jazz.
Nice one ❤
I hope the Money Game trilogy is coming. I’m loving Julius reactions. Thank you keep them coming
We just did the money game trilogy it’s gonna come out soon !!!!
His acoustic version of this is real good also

We can see about getting them in order from where I started
fish and chips (not fries, thicker soft on inside. crispy on outside) and mushy peas - nothing beats it
I like your guest good input
Nice reaction guys - thank you!!
Fish and chips and mushy peas - that's what he's eating. Very traditional.
Altho he can’t eat any of it 🙁
Really love the song Julius especially the middle was beautiful… love the reaction… there are a few different Genesis videos acoustic and drum and bass. Thanks guys really enjoyed! 🫶🏻
Great voice Julius ❤
Great reaction guys! Liked the song. 😉❤️
Now you need to listen to acoustic version.
Need to react to both "Chalk outline" and "how to be me" by Ren both featuring chinchilla

Looking forward to this one! 😄💜
REN - POWER next for him
Ren is a HUGE fan of Nate Dogg, loves Kanye's earlier stuff. That's what I can think of off the top.....oh! and Beasties Boys.
Mushy peas.
You should of done the official version then the acoustic version after it if you really want to show the true level of RENs genius
