It is good to hear the shamisen without it being drown out by an army of modern instruments like so many musicians feel the need to do. The shamisen has a special sound and deserves to be heard.
The Tsugaru Shamisen sounds super amazing! I have only heard a few songs that utilize its distinct sound but I have always been really impressed by just how beautiful it is.
Go home cameraman, you're drunk ;-) Watched this duo on NHK World tonight in its Eye On Japan show about street performers and came straight to TH-cam to see more, very impressed!
I love this example of modern Tsugaru Shamisen! I Miss playing Shamsien in the park in Tokyo too. Remember when you, me and Kyle played in Ueno and we got kicked out? Haha! Good times!
Yoyogi Park. That place is so awesome. There's performers like this + delinquents +dancers + families picnicking. It's indescribable how diverse it is.
I was a fan of the Canties, who first sang the song. I enjoyed this interesting combination of the old song and the traditional instruments. Thanks much!
This seems retroactive given my time on this channel, but I thought (given Tokyo lens, and my foreign understanding of Japanese culture) that shamisen players learned only a few songs trying to perfect (and truly perfect every bit of it) the song as the importance of the the instrument. How does this hold true (or untrue) to this idea?

OMG ten years ago. So cool to see KiKi and the genesis of the relationship you guys have.

You mean 'Candies'?
+valkyria086 Exactly! Thanks for the correction! Yes, I noticed the mistake after submitting the comment but didn't know how to edit it 😅

Japanese Dangdut! Amazing! Greetings from Indonesian 👍
I agree Nekkral, amazing as is.
1:34 there is a totally crazy slide pop sound! Is that an audio glitch or can you actually do that at will with a Shamisen?!?
If so, gnarly!

I'm really enjoying KiKi's TH-cam performances. Have they recorded anything for CD or download?
