UPDATE: Hey folks! Thank you for your kind words about my AlphaZero videos! I don't have new AZ videos on this channel but I have created something even bigger: an entire chess course (Attack like a machine!) highly influenced by AlphaZero's play, with the main chapter dedicated to AlphaZero's attacking chess. You can check out the preview video and find out more about the course here: www.chessable.com/anna-1
Anna I just love your style, particularly your red berrett, also your sweet voice, your gorgeous face, oh - - - not forgetting the way you explain the games!
Hi, Anna. For me, as a 1900 player, your videos of AlphaZero's games open a window on super-high-level chess that makes me want to work harder and smarter. Keep up the fantastic work, showcasing the most artistic games of chess I've ever seen.
I would like you to cover more alphazero games. You have more insight than agadmator but the same passion and enthusiasm in your voice unlike the other masters
Antonio's videos are shorter. He doesn't have time to explain all the ideas behind the moves. Although I do agree that her knowledge and delivery is exceptional. She makes it sound very easy. Explaining the philosophy behind critical moves is a nice touch.
I agree with both of you, excellent points! Agadmators videos are more important for chess you could argue, as they are shorter and therefore get more views (we all want chess to become alot more popular, agad is doing just that). but Annas analysis is far superior!
Clear presentation and great content selection Anna! Shows how important it is (in a fairly closed position) to target an important weakness, bring all your pieces to their best squares, and not neglect those prophylactic measures that help stamp out any counter-play for your opponent. Of course, Alpha's acute sense of urgency and danger are not things that we could easily emulate, but understanding the process is a big step in the right direction.
This is a very underated chess channel. She brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm that people like agadmator seem to lack. You can tell she really loves the game.
i really improved after watching this. Now, i really don't care about pieces. I just aim the king side, don't give a shit to my pieces in other way. And i play better. The guy who gave values to the pieces is a criminal !
Your first video on alphazero is the reason I found your channel and subscribed. Love your enthusiasm and analysis style. Would love more alphazero videos.
More Alpha Zero games please. The way you explain it with rare enthusiasm and passion make it much more interesting and understandable. BTW you have a beautiful voice too. Love your videos.
Anna, I didn't think it possible that a commentary could add SO MUCH to my enjoyment of a game's analysis. a game can provide more than just the stimulation of an intellectual challenge thanks to you, I NOW see chess can offer all the rewards of a well-woven story. Your never-strained use of dramatic suspense, delightful surprise and wry humor guides me effortlessly through your narrative. Chess making me smile, grin and chuckle?! Who knew?
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Your analysis is really insightful, focused on positional chess and your hat is awesome. My wife says that if she ever watches chess videos, she is only going to watch your videos. Please share more videos on AlphaZero.
Your AlphaZero commentary is the best I've found. You distilled key drivers of AZ's strategy - mobility, flexibility, and the bizarre willingness to retreat and sacrifice. I see chess completely differently now. More please!
Love these AlphaZero analysis you do. Myself, I play just like AlphaZero with a lot of weird and unpredictable moves. Difference is, it doesn't work out that well for me so I need to improve on that :- D (j/k)

I was fascinated with chess in my college days and recently started playing again on a chess app. My game was rusty but once I started watching channels like Anna's and Agadmator's, it has dramatically improved! Chess is the new Black! I think the best thing I've learned on this channel is how to patiently and aggressively use the King in the end game. Thanks a million!
I am super amazed at how informative these videos are! I would really love to see more and learn more from you and Alphazero.. every since I have watched these videos and studied them, my rank has gone up and my understanding of the game has become much, much clearer.. I have played since I was 5yrs old. I have read many books and magazines about the game yet I have learned more from you then any of it... so for that I want to thank you very much for these wonderful videos..
Very insightful analysis Anna! It was interesting to hear your thoughts on AlphaZero's specific moves that seem unnatural to us human players and how they worked out in the long game. More videos please!
Absolutely superb analysis, focusing on strategy and position rather than endless alternative tactical lines. I've ordered the Sadler/Regan book on AlphaZero. I can't help wishing Anna had been involved in writing it.
11:30 . This is why I love AlphaZero games. You pause the video and go looking for the most ridiculous move possible. I guessed at Kh3, just for fun, but Ng1 was a close second. lol!
Your comment is not only explaining brilliantly a chess game, but also emotionalizing it, although it is calculated by two machines far away from every human feelings. So you are referring a human game (chess), played by two machines back to human understanding (analysis with an emotional aspect). Really deeply moving your two comments of AlphaZero games. Thank you!
I really love these strategic analyses of Alpha Zero''s games. Way beyond my level to understand otherwise. Your expert breakdown is easy to understand and one day I hope to meet and play a game against you. Of course you would wipe me out easily but being able to go over it after would improve my play substantially. As always Anna fabulous job. You are by far my favorite streamer .
Wow I view a lot of chess commentary/instructional videos and definitely you add a certain spice, an element of excitement that just adds to the wonderful analysis. Thanks Anna!
I had already watched this video on Agadmator's channel but since he has to keep his videos short, there are some finer details he didn't cover and you have covered everything extremely well!! Please, we want more...
Hi Anna, I think you should consider the time-limit of the game also. This is because the best move of stockfish or any engine depends on the time it has to evaluate the position. The time you used to analyze stockfish moves using stockfish 8 may not be the same time stockfish 8 used during the game.
This is the first video I've seen from your channel Anna and I love it. That's why I liked and subscribed Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
This wonderful lesson/analysis was certainly worth the wait since your first one. I hope the next alphazero (or leela) video will be soon !! You are awesome !!
When two players make zero mistakes, really the only option is positional play with small strategies. These level games are really opaque to me, but thanks to your thorough analysis and narration I can follow it. It's really funny how the first 40 moves are almost all about a single pawn. Of course you can't be sure that this was really what was going on in AlphaZero's mind, but you make a convincing case for it. Thanks I enjoyed this very much!
Another wonderful analysis. No other chess analyst brings the game to life for me as you do and makes it so exciting, also I enjoy your humour. Who else can do serious chess analysis and jokes? :-) Please do cover more of Alpha Zero's games, it is fascinating stuff.
This is very informative. Thanks for posting. There are a lot of chess courses online, so there are many to consider, but I’ll definitely check out this one.
I think Ra1 is some concrete prophylactic move. If not for it, after the exchange sacrifice, .Rx5 Bxd5 .Qxd5 black can simply play Qxa4, with a double attack on the Q and the rook on d1. With the Q on f4 and the Rook on b5, Alpha0 is probably already committed to the exchange sacrifice so he has to move or protect his rook, and Alpha0 brillantly recognize he has time for Bg2 unprotecting the rook, and Ra1 moving the rook to the square restricting Black's counter-play the most
The reason AlphaZero can play this way is because it calculates perfectly. The precision frees it up to make these kinds of moves, because it's accurately made provision for all the possible tactical shots way down the line. No way will a human ever be able to play the same way (IMO). It's fantastic, though, watching what this level of calculation empowers. Awesome game! I am always amazed when I see chess engines play the game and your analysis of each move is very helpful to understand how and why each move was played. In terms of how Alpha Zero plays the game reminds me a lot of Paul Morphy and how he valued open positions, making sacrifices when necessary, and activating all he's pieces in harmony with TEMPO. Sense Alpha Zero has no knowledge of piece value in terms of how much points each piece is worth, ( IT ) simply plays the game based on gaining positional advantages by small incremental steps whether it be by placing pieces on great outpost squares or by retreating a piece to a safe square while at the same time creating room for a less active piece to become active if that makes sense. Love your breakdowns and reviews of these kinds of games. I was wondering if you could do a video on some of Paul Morphy's games? Appreciate the chess content and keep up the great work Anna :)
@@julioandresgomez3201 Hmm interesting, do you think Morphy would have been better with playing in closed positions if given the time? Now that you mention it, of all the games I've observed from Morphy, they were mostly all open positions and like Alpha Zero, Morphy pretty much taught himself how to play the game so I guess the possibility is there for sure. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. A.I. are becoming more and more powerful and we are learning more from them everyday. I find this very fascinating/interesting for sure.
@@projectc1rca048 Sure, IF he devotes to it. Fact is, Morphy got bored of chess in open positions, he´d most likely bore of positions in which you can not unleash "savage" attacks and there are no tactical shots (which by the way were highly disregarded in the romantic era of chess, not that it matters if your playing style is positional but obviously that´s not Morphy´s style either).
I agree with Julio, I thought the way alphazero played was almost shattering and displayed another level in chess in that pieces can be placed back to be developed for the new position in a closed position that still displays levels of risk and fear while pulling the maneuver off for a much deeper small advantage. In a lot of ways tempo was not the way alphazero bested stockfish, if anything stockfish valuing tempos too much is probably what caused it to never see 3 seemingly developmentally flawed move that requires 6 moves for the idea to even start.
@@MrSupernova111 Oh yeah I agree 100%. I was just stating to Julio that from the games that I looked at from Morphy, they were mostly open positions but yes, I do agree just because Morphy preferred mainly open games does not mean he was a positional player.

This is a beautiful explanation. This has helped me win games in my rating actually. I am still a rookie but positional play helps in thinking atleast 1 step ahead.
At 32:25 i'm curious as to why AlphaZero didn't go for the rook fork with Nc6. Does it care that little about material, or am I missing something? Edit: I assume it's because of Rf7+, meaning white doesn't actually win anything and is also unable to block the check with the knight, subsequently worsening the position of white's king.
Hello Miss Anna Rudolf... can you please tell me what is the difference between Playstyle in Chess? Like in this video, Positional Play, what does it mean? What is distinctive feature of this style? And please talk about the other styles too like Passive style of play, Aggressive and Suicidal etc.
I love these videos, but I wish you would show how stockfish views all positions, or even just more positions. I want to know at what point stockfish realizes it's losing or made a mistake of miscalculated something.
6:10 what if Stockfish plays queen d8 (if queen takes f5 bishop takes d4, no problem) and g5 (if h5 then bishop g5)? Shaky, risky, double-edged, but that´s the way to play for a win. Probably A 0 with black would have tried that rather than waiting moves. Quite a few bloodless moves by Stockfish. Well, it doesn´t have blood at all, yet the point is some "hypermega-aggressive" principle can be inserted into the program to factor in.

At 25:50, why not black knight to C6, attacking the white queen ?
6:10 what if Stockfish plays queen d8 (if queen takes f5 bishop takes d4, no problem) and g5 (if h5 then bishop g5)?
Shaky, risky, double-edged, but that´s the way to play for a win. Probably A 0 with black would have tried that rather than waiting moves. Quite a few bloodless moves by Stockfish. Well, it doesn´t have blood at all, yet the point is some "hypermega-aggressive" principle can be inserted into the program to factor in.
I don't know anything about chess... but her enthusiasm is infectious.
I know this was uploaded a long time ago and there's more recent videos but I want more alpha zero coverage or other games if you want
