Closure rate seems to explain why a lot of golfers with modest or slightly above average swing speed can fit well into a Ventus Black X. My swing tops out at 105 and I've tried lighter and much softer shafts. A whole bunch of shafts. The Ventus Black X is straightest and longest.
I think you're off on the grinds available from Cleveland. There are custom grinds that you can get on the tour rack. You can also put some of the custom grinds together and create a different grind. You can get three different leading edge grinds. On the Full-Face wedge they also added a new leading edge bounce chamfer. There is more than Full-Mid-Low bounce available. I think there are enough options for 95% of the players.
You're correct in that there are custom options available (likley end up $40-$50 over retail) - and perhaps could have stated this more clearly, but my criticism is centered on what's available at retail, given that's where the vast majority of sales are going to come from - Compared to Vokey, PING, Callaway, IMO Cleveland is behind in this regard
TXG (CC in Canada) uses closure rate in their (Foresight based) fitting. At my 2023 iron fitting the fitter noticed my closure rate was pretty high and suggested weakening my grip that had gotten pretty strong without me noticing. I did and once the rate had gotten more reasonable we fitted the shaft. Of course that ended up with an Accra shaft (ref. Tony's comment) 🙂
A couple of considerations here - First, TM is only comfortable drawing conclusions between closure rate and shaft type in a driver fitting - so not entirely sure what we can surmise from closure rate in an iron fitting - but re: drivers, the message from TM was clear - there is no good/bad closure rate. The objective is to find a consistent closure rate, not a lower one. Now, that might not be the case re: irons...TBD on that
I’m interested in the lower center of gravity on the taylormade. Because I tend to hit it lower on the face. And most of these perform better higher on the face.
WTF. You spend over half this episode on the TM drivers when you could watch an entire previous video on them. Then you say you’re going fast through the rest of it. With all the new stuff coming out you should’ve given a short recap on TM and some more time on other company’s equipment. Very disappointing.
Plenty of equipment still to come out over the next 4-6 weeks and as always, we'll do our best to cover as much of it as we can. The other option is a 2-hour podcast :)
Callaway always tests well, better than Titleist and better every year if you look at the past few years of driver reviews. Seems to always be Ping then Callaway
Custom isn't retail - Yes, Cleveland offers ala carte options, which puts you in the $230+ range/wedge. We're talking about fitting options available at retail pricing...
If you think that any more than 10-15% of golfers geek out about Vokey you are crazy. I do not buy Vokeys BEC AUSE I do not have 2 months to research the 85 different combinations. Yes guys like you like it because you are in the industry. But as a 7 HDCP I do not need 2 different lob wedges for different seasons and 8 different wedges to choose from course to course. And i am not spending 1600 on a group of wedges every year. Give me a 54 mid and a 60 High and I am good.
I'd suggest you check on Vokey's market share. It's quite a bit higher than your suggested % of interest. If you're a 7 handicap and have 20 minutes to spare, I can virtually guarantee that you'd find value in exploring the various bounce/grind options out there. Too many golfers have this close-minded approach where they'd rather not improve, which I don't understand.
Maybe it’s me but feels like driver companies have hit the LIMIT on rules and there is nothing left to do but change colors and come up with near meaningless talking points
@ not so much on that used rack where most of them will end up. I don’t know how I change from perfect in stealth plus ver1. I cracked my m2 deep face and this was pretty perfect replacement. Fw woods are a , pry it from my cold dead hands for me . I’ll play it till it breaks if it comes out of the window I’m looking for.
@@ScottDreyfus In general, the best players I know tend to keep fairway woods until they they fall apart. Like a great pair of jeans, once you find the perfect fit, wear 'em until you can't.
@@GolfSpyC facts. I’m picky but I know what I like to look at and when dinner depends on knowing what it can do warts and all… it matters! It’s the single hardest club in the bag to fit 2/3/4 ish wood. It’s always tough to decide what you want/ need it for. Down south in Augusta I carry a hot three and driver , but up on Long Island at shinni I rarely have driver in the bag and go Mini at 11 and hot UW bent to 15.5. It’s all about controlling that ball. I could give no f’s about how long something is , I just need to know it hits my number and. How far it actually goes. It’s so firm up north and down here it’s max launch and everything lands like a tent spike and backs up on dormant Bermuda / rye overseed. Instead of bent and fescue. I am almost playing two different sets of clubs depending, at Al East on top and bottom.
This is the content we need, the brand sitting there content is never gonna be as good as an unbiased chat
You gotta give a little to get a little....
Great work as always, Gentlemen.
S3 is looking good! 919 tours have been great for my style. they just do what u put into them.
Yeah, an MP iron built on the JPX Tour chassis is a beautiful thing!
919T is legendary. Every time I see a set on course, I know big shots are coming.
Crazy that Callaway's 2024 line beat everything but Left Dash. I have 6 or 8 dozen, might need to stock up.
Dead-nuts center of a ZX7/5 is hard to beat feelings wise. Endo forged….
Don't disagree...but you have to have to put Mizuno/Chuo up there as well.
It’s gonna be hard to get me to switch from my zx5 mk2 .. I can hit it anywhere on the face and it goes straight 😂
Hitting a trap cut with a ZX iron and its V-sole is one of the purest things in golf.
Nice TJ jersey!

Titleist fits head first, then shaft, Have been doing this for years.
Correct, but the manner in which TaylorMade is fitting the shaft using closure rate is new - and potentially quite beneficial.

Have they removed the raw option on the t1 wedges?! 😢

Who let the dawgs out please love to see em lol
im into the new alloy. it looks like it flys through the turf! Too bad all i need is the eye2 glade 3.0 58*

They should of just went QI25... for year and saved the QI35 when they have a legit 5 model....IDK...
Just a thought🤷♂️
for reference.... what would be the MOI of the OG SIM ?
Good question - I'd have to do some digging, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was 8000+/-
@@GolfSpyCwow really? Seems high. They are saying this qi35LS is around 7,000
I want to hear everything about the new Titleist mini-driver
Definitely going to be a space to watch and discuss this year. What specific questions do you have?

@ you don’t need a 2 hour podcast just give equal time to each product you have on your show.
As usual cobra Titelist and ping will be the best but TaylorMade and callaway advertising will bring everyone to their models

Why would you polish something your are going to smash into the turf? 🤦♂️don’t do stupid 💩for no reason!
Reason #1 IMO, is b/c of how clubs are displayed at retail - a clean, polished sole will garner attention and it does look pretty fantastic
