Innovative in 1988, 1989 at the Time after seeing this clip i bought it for the PS5 for permanent download to beat it which i eventually did. Difficult but still playable.
It's just one of the power ups. I didn't check the entire video, but it doesn't look to me like it even showed up anywhere. That would just be unlucky, since there is normally a decent chance that it shows up at the very beginning of the first stage.
Agreed. Side scrolling platformers were a dime a dozen back in 1989. The NES version never appealed to me. Shadow Warriors/Ninja Gaiden was new and fresh back in 1989. Ninjas everywhere doing funky flips like Michael Dudikoff. This came out the same year as golden axe.
@@yellowblanka6058 I prefer the arcade game too, although I do like the NES version as well. Both are completely different genres, so they're not really comparable, but the Nintendo Ninja Gaiden was basically like every other NES game at the time, so calling the arcade game mediocre is a little hypocritical.
If I'm not mistaken, the sword locations are always the same and I must have just missed them. The Esso barrel at 00:32 always seems to have the sword, but I didn't break it here. Not sure where all the other sword locations are.
Sucks that the Virtual Console and Hamster Corp versions had some edits compare to the original arcade version and this game should've appeared on Tecmo Classic Arcade for original Xbox
They had to edit the game to avoid copyright infringement from Black Sabbath. As for the VC port, Nintendo has a very strict policy on religious symbolism in their games. Surprisingly, Round 2's theme "Pat" is somehow able to slip by, considering it's a copy of Michael Jackson's Bad.
This game is great in it's own right but I contend this is one of those cases where the NES version is a better game. Really they only share the name and I don't think of them as being the same game.
I think what you mean to say is that you prefer the NES game. Saying one is better than the other is a fallacy as they are two different genres, and so are not comparable.
One of best arcade games to come out!
this was so awesome to play in the arcade as a kid with my brother. i love this game. the cut scenes are hilarious now that i watch them as an adult
Those "vignettes" were really cool!

Where is level 5??? Wyoming?
A perfect videogame
The posters and such in the background are very funny.
Thank God I never got to see this version but the NES!
I guess the blue ninja is Hayabusa and the orange ninja is Hayate.
Or Ken Hayabusa, he was wearing Orange in the opening of the NES version correct?
@@Jackattack359
You mean Jō?
The one who was killed?
That makes more sense.
I don’t know why they would name him after me.
This game is not linked to the NES version's story. The Blue and Red ninjas in this game are just nameless warriors.
@@nebularain3338
Don't you just hate it when game developers never put any thought in their game's characters?
Jeff Gertsmann was right, this does look pretty awesome vs. the NES version...
I used to play this game every day when my mother was doing laundry I just take all the quarters😂😂😂😂
Never even heard of this game. This is interesting, even though I prefer the NES version.
I remember how u could use a katana - how do you do it??

Oh right! I was going mad wondering how lol
Love the bondage scene at the end boss fight
This is part of Ninja Gaiden.
Player 1: Ryu Hayabusa
Player 2: (didn't know who is he? either Ryu's Clone?)
I prefer the arcade version of this then the nes version any day.
You'd be in the extreme minority there, this is a very mediocre, simplistic beat-em-up vs. the NES series with an interesting story/stages/gameplay.
Yellowblanka agreed
This is a good classic beat em up better than medicore

why does the bosses seems so easy to take down?...
What a memories!!
When I played this game, there were many swords in Broken Boxes Etc. Why aren't these players finding any swords?

How can I play this game
It's playable with the emulator MAME.
For some reason higher quality music in 2 player and not 1
The difference in the music here is because this is the Japanese version of the game, which has a few changes.

nes version is way funner.this. shit requires no skill at all
You've not played it correctly then, becasue there's loads of moves and skill in this game. Also, the correct grammar is "more fun". Not "funner".
