I played this when I had this on the Lynx, this was my first introduction to Ninja Gaiden. this version is actually called Shadow Warriors. When I played it on NES I was like this is not Ninja Gaiden. I was all confused. Yes this is the arcade virsion. It has the best ending when you die. Similar to Final Fight.
The only time I saw this game was on a cruise ship around '90. It was one of the best side-scrollers out there because you could be so interactive with the environment.
Ninja Gaiden in 4k. I remember this on the old CRT. As kids we always talk about this game with the two ninjas killing the guys with the Jason masks. Played in my local pizzeria in 88.
This was a prime example of how one teensy little thing could make the difference between a beat-'em-up that was a token-munching slog but managable (Final Fight, Double Dragon 2 The Revenge, Crime Fighters) and one which was a nigh-impossible constant nightmare. That thing? _Checkpoints._ Yes, this was one of those games where continuing would literally erase your progress, in some cases a lot of it. In the final level, there's a checkpoint just before *the orange claw fighters.* Y'know, the guys who knock off three bars in A SINGLE HIT? This ensured that only the best of the best of the best had *any chance whatsoever* at going the distance. I saw one player, _lifetime,_ make it to the final boss and get wiped in about ten seconds. If I were an arcade operator, I'd set lives and energy to the maximum (4 and 5, respectively) just out of a sense of basic decency.
Played this before the NES version at a liquor store in my hood back in 1988. Was blown away by it. Dude must've had that place as a front for drugs or something because he was always rotating the arcade cabinets...Double Dribble, WWF Superstars, Street Fighter, Rastan, Ninja Gaiden, Jail Break, Double Dragon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Shinobi in the span of like 15 months. Place wasn't even THAT big lmao.
Funny how on the 2nd stage you fight the L.O.D!, the Road Warriors and the Ironman remix kicked in! Before, "What a Rush"! "Ironman" was the Road Warriors ring entrance music!
Remember playing this in the arcade and when it came out for the nes I was I'm buying it .To my disappointment it was not the same but it ended up being great in its own right.. Don't have the console anymore but I do still have the games in pristine condition 1,2,&3..Though I finally do have the arcade version on my switch after 34 yrs...👍🏼😁 Sweet.....
Que bien le hizo la NES a este tipo de juegos, lo convirtió en un juego memorable y súper clásico en la historia de los videojuegos. Sólo era un beat 'em up genérico.
I remember seeing this game in the arcade back in the day, but only managed to play the NES version which, of course, is vastly different. Do remember that death screen though haha.
Never thought I'd see this classic again. I used to walk across my tiny hometown and pour in quarters, just get my butt kicked🤣🤣🤣. Thank you bringing back so many memories
When I was in army stationed at Fort Stewart GA, this arcade game was in the pizza shop and I played it everyday. When the game was ported to SNES and all the future versions years later, they all were nothing like the original arcade game……but by then Tenchu: Stealth Assassins came out on PS2 and changed how ninja games were supposed to be made…….to this day Tenchu is the best ninja game ever made when it came to authenticity with weapons and using stealth during gameplay etc..
Dude, I love the Tenchu reference! When old games come up in convos, I'd mention that game but most don't remember it. Tenchu: Wrath if Heaven was awesome too.
I was hoping a remake of Tenchu Stealth Assassins and Wrath Of Heaven would be done on PS5, but I don’t know who own the rights to the games for it to be done.
no joke my buddies dad had the full arcade cabinet in his back porch and we would play the ever living hell out of it. It was the early mid 90's so it wasn't new by any means but it was an actual arcade game in my homies house and that alone was awesome.
I remember playing this in the arcades in the early 90s. Then buying it for the Atari Lynx portable console. I wish they would bring this out with fixed controls. And DLC.
I love this game I used to be on the arcades all the time playing it spending $10 now the best part is now I got the game I'll never have to pay for it now life is good💯
I saw this game and played it badly at a mom and pop hot dog and ice cream shop. The continue and game over screen was terrifying to me as a small boy. I sucked at this game and kept saying where’s the damn sword?
My favorite thing about this game is hanging quietly from the Coke sign, waiting for an enemy that dares to tread close, and then kicking the @#&$ out of them across the screen into a phone booth *sMaSh*
Hot game at the Aladdin's Castle arcade back in the day in Burlington North Carolina... Along with Street fighter 2, slamming jam in a few others I should drop many a token...
This game reminds me of another old arcade game "Double Dragon" they are so much alike, but in my opinion "Double Dragon" is better. You not only fought gangs all the way through it and main bosses, but it had better moves and you could pick up weapons, that you knocked out of gangs hands or you could find weapons by smashing stuff or putting gang members through the stuff and finding weapons. Plus "Double Dragon" was a challenge and tough to beat, but this "Ninja Gaiden" arcade game was easy as hell to beat. Even as a kid this wouldn't have been a challenge.
Of one my favorite (and most memorable) arcade experiences of the ‘80s… in this case, we need to see the player die just once cause that Game Over screen is too good not to show, haha!
I remember me & a few friends practicing the ninja's walk, laughing our butts off, good times. 😊
The ORIGINAL Ninja Gaiden. I remember playing this at the corner store when I was in the 5th grade. My boy put me on to it. Nostalgia!!
That flip-grab is equivalent to the 87 Double Dragon elbow.
This is so much more different than the nes version.
It's like night and day.
Yet they’re both awesome.
Who is the night and who is the day? 😎
They both hard as hell thought. The new might have the edge

also I just found out that Shadow warriors for nes is the european version of ninja gaiden same game.
The credits screen when you lose used to trip me out.
I completely forgot how Ryu does random shit after each stage.😂
The only time I saw this game was on a cruise ship around '90. It was one of the best side-scrollers out there because you could be so interactive with the environment.
Whoa... thats so trippy how do you get it so crisp in resolution like that? Its almost like a brand new game wow..
Tilt arcade in Pasadena California had it
This and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs had the most Nightmare Fuel game overs.
I havent seen this game being played in over 30 years. Arcade version looks fun as heck still today.
Ninja Gaiden in 4k. I remember this on the old CRT. As kids we always talk about this game with the two ninjas killing the guys with the Jason masks. Played in my local pizzeria in 88.
The game had the best game over / continue animation screen
Classic of 1988. Phenomenal game play.👍😎
Oh , so this where he learned the ninja art of turning into like wind and vanishing at the end of the stage , cool 😅.
For those of you younger gens, this was an arcade machine before NES. Although, hell ya I also played that one.
That intro has been burned into my memory for the last 30 years.
that "Ninja in U.S.A." scene is still funny for 24 years later.
I still wonder "how that hell he went to united states in that little dinghy?".
He arrived in San Francisco. He whirlwinds into New York City to fight Hawk and Animal, who are billed from Chicago.

I dropped so many quarters in the game as a kid in the 80's.great memories 😊
NINJA GAIDEN!
The Arcade Hit From Tecmo!
I spend so much quarters on this arcade game back in the 80s even download to the PS4 version and I still can't beat it
So amazing, it’s turning out.
The way you can interact with the environment is amazing. A game that was ahead of its time.
This game's difficulty was no joke
Very fun to play
Yeah, that sounds about right. All the Ninja Gaiden games are hard as nails.

Doesn't have to be that big. Liquor stores can make serious bank if run right.
6:41 Black Sabbath's Iron Man...now that's just awesome
Funny how on the 2nd stage you fight the L.O.D!, the Road Warriors and the Ironman remix kicked in!
Before, "What a Rush"! "Ironman" was the Road Warriors ring entrance music!
I like the part where the wacky guy in his own little individual helicopter crashes and evaporates in a swath of flame.
The round clear screens are so hilarious.
The Only Thing I Remember About The Arcade Version As Kid Was When He Was Running In The Rain In The Intro
The good old days when games fun, simple.

Today years old to learn of this Arcade version 😮
0:12 HOTELL I love that on the back ground building, my OCD rocking today.
So different from the NES version. This is my first time seeing the Arcade game.
the Boss fight music for the three clawed guys was always my favorite

The fear of watching the ninja getting sawed made me master the game with one coin.
This is fucking awesome! Childhood memories! It looks damn gorgeous in 4k fucken wow!
I remember my friend getting the NES version and me being so disappointed. I did end up getting this version on ps4 ; )
nes version is light years ahead of this. Gameplay and music.

@10:53 Being a ninja doesnt mean you cant have fun in a casino and being fancy at the same time . But the mask stays on !!!
😂
It’s amazing 8 bit 16 bit era how different the game ports were from arcade to console and console to console
very nice.

What we thought we were getting when the NES version was released lol. I remember this game being next to impossible for me at age 9.
Man tell me about it 95 when I play it
1:41 first time I see this wall jump Sword Slash Attack. Reminds me of the Rolling Sword from Ninja Gaiden Nes
PLAYED THIS IN 1988 IN SEASIDE TOWN CALLED TENBY SOUTH WALES UK, 16 THEN. BOUGHT THE JAMMA PCB BOARD STILL HAVE IT.
I am guessing the story in this one is Ryu goes on a vacation to the U.S.A.
I don't think I could ever get past stage 1 without continuing. I was so bad at this game as a kid.
You play nice , I think I only got to the highway sign crossing in the arcade . Use to wish my nes was more like this
Este juego esta para la consola Nintendo NES?
All I see is some cosplayers in a perfectly maintained and functional city being beaten up by a lunatic dressed as a ninja and carrying a sword.
How tf do u jump on the pole in the beginning of the stage? Wtf

Not a bad game but thank God Tecmo decided to make the NES version game that we got.
In my humble opinion,
Nintendo 8bit ninja gaiden
it's much more dope.
This arcade version is a clear plagiarism of the doube dragon.
Back when every villain looked like Jason Vorhees 😂 if you count slaughterhouse you can say good guy too 😆

This game used to scare me at my local bowling alley
Main char reminds a "ninja" character from "Double Dragon 3", almost the same pose and appearance
06:38 is this song black sabbath's "Iron man"?
It totally is a legally-distinct Iron Man. Lol. Nice catch.
