RG Letourneau was a mechanical genius, loved all sorts of devices. Once he loved VW bugs, drove it around the Longview Texas site. He was following one of these big machines, driving right in the track of one of the tires. The big scraper stopped in front of him, and he stopped the VW, got out to investigate why the operator had stopped. The operator put the machine in reverse and inadvertently drove right over the bug, squashing it. It was a good day in Longview.
Truly an extraordinary experience
Its good to see they have more than 1 of these loader numbered 5 on the road and the one in the quarry is number 4.

These were heavy haula trucks, no trailers.
Back in the late 80s is switched from over-the-road to hauling earth moving equipment. I pulled some big, heavy pieces... but DAMN! I never moved anything that required four tractors. That was impressive.
Astonishing. Working at mercedes truck fabric , wörth, germany and didn" t know that we were making trailers😅.

They had removed it from the loader in order to transported the mashine easily.
That's right, because the shovel is wider, it will take up a lot of ground
The second and third trailers were carrying tubs for dump trucks.

Looks like she needs a new set of Tyres. Didn’t see the front Shovel in the Convoy.
When delivery arrives, the tires will be replaced or tire chains installed, and the shovel will ariive first

You would think something that big could tow itself.
It would be much easier to drive it wherever you wanted, but I think that loader would destroy roads.
@@mrfingers4737 some reason that the axle load is around 150t at the rear axle and could cause problems on bridges and rubings under the road.another reason is the worn down of hydrostatic or electric drive. these machines , also dkmp truck like cat 797 are not built for long distance drive. In australia fir example they even load teleskopic cranes like lg 1500 on low beds not worn down hydrostatic drive components

The old days of Letourneau issues is 30 years ago. They are a great loader. They have a patented electrical propulsion system called Switch Reluctance. They make a CAT 994 look sad. The mines I was involved with had multiple LeTourneau’s and the 994’s were labeled “barn queens” as they were always in the shop.
Letourneau is American.
