I was a little kid playing Dark Cloud 2, revisiting this now being 24 years old is nostalgic and makes me miss being 8-9 years old. Great game and really good story

I will never tire of this game. I'm drawn to it like a moth to flame, when someone asks "what's your favorite game of all time?" I can confidently tell them "Dark Cloud 2, the epitome of the PS2".
I remember when I got this game back when I was a junior in high school in 2003. I had no idea what I was in for, but this intro music definitely sent chills up my spine. What I'll never forget though, is how my little sister and I used to play this game together all the time. Truly those were the best times of my life. But the hilarious thing is, my nickname in High School was Max, and my little sister's name is Monica. So this really did feel like "our" game. I'm replaying it nearly two decades later, and I know I'll keep playing it throughout the rest of my life, hopefully someday again with my little sister.
This is my story. I started playing Dark Cloud 2 as a kid but never finished it. Then 2 yrs ago I tried playing Dark Cloud 2 again, but after getting to the Shingala Chapter my save file got corrupted... now this weekend I picked it up again and got to the Shingala Chapter again. All because of this song and the intro. Thank you Level-5

If there was only one game I could completely wipe my memory of and play fully from the beginning all over again, experiencing every little detail from scratch. This game is my choice 100%. This game is one of my absolute favorites in my entire life. First played the demo back when I was 3 years old, then played on my dad’s save a bunch when he wasn’t on it. Then I fully played through the game and beat Dark Genie when I was maybe 12 or 13. What I found the most entertaining is that I wound up with significantly better gear at the dark genie than my dad had on his save. He still had the steal gun and didn’t have the nova cannon iv. Granted to get some of my good weapons, I just bought those rename cards and made the Supernova and Island King very much earlier than you’re able to get them through weapon synthesis XD Took forever to get those medals thought lemme tell ya.
Started playing this game yesterday and finished the part where you hear the song for the first time... my god this song is beautiful and gives lots of good vibes.
Every couple of years, I come back to Dark Cloud 2 to play through it again. Even through all of the time I have spent on this game, it has never lost its magic on me. One of my most beloved, most favorite games I have ever played. Took the time a few years back to even platinum it. So many hours in Moonflower Palace leveling up my dragon badge just so I could get all of the medals before continuing on and not being able to return to those floors. It was a labor of love. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It's also one of those games that is still unheard of, at least in my experience. I've only ever met one other person in real life who had played it, and only a handful who knew of it. Outside of playing the game, I still think about this song in particular, normally out of the blue, and have to listen to it. Thank you, Level-5.
Im on the platinum run now lol,. Put it down for a bit, have spheda on most of the dungeons still, fishing, which actually isnt too bad haha, nice and relaxing at least, but ye..the monster badges though, im sad af theyre still so weak even near max level
I've beaten this game at least 4 or 5 times. I'm going to beat it again soon, just started a new save. This is one of very few games I will always revisit.
dark cloud deserves a 3rd game, direct sequel to this or not, i liked the mechanic that you affected the world of the future or world in general(from dark cloud 1) and the combat mechanics were interesting also, using the robot or turning into monsters, the music is also really good

Since I kid I have played OoT, Majoras Mask, BoTW, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, God of War, rdr2, Until Dawn, It Takes Two, The Last of Us 1 and 2, The Walking Dead, Fallout, Bioshocks, etc. To this day nothing beats Dark Cloud 2.

Easily my pick for best game of all time, considering when it was released. It was so unbelievably far ahead of its time that even most modern games nearly 20 years later still struggle to compete with its complex weapon system and captivating story-telling. I first played this game on playstation 2 when I was maybe 8 or 9 without any guides or help, and I got stuck on the georama section of chapter 2 not knowing how to progress, and every 5 or 6 months, I would go back and start a new save thinking "I'm smarter now, no way I get stuck" and yet for many years I still never could get past chapter 2 lol, but eventually I did find some of the very detailed game FAQ walkthroughs and progressed through the rest of the game. Now I am 20 and still come back and play through this game about once a year, each time focusing on max-stating a different weapon. Truly an incredible game that is so criminally unknown. A perfect example of a diamond in the rough. I don't plan to ever stop recommending or playing this game.

@cloudhagamara There is a safe place called "Vrimms". Inside his "lair" you may find access to your childhood memories. If you go to the Google saga they may guide you there. That place will have everything you need if you have a computer. You must put the two words together to open the portal. I have been there many a times and no one has said a peep about the ancient knowledge I've recovered from there.

So True & How relevant this song still is, so many years later. This game taught me the power of courage & friendship. Still one of my favorite RPG's to this very day.

Here’s a interesting note: In the after game chapter Monica uses a Star Glass to return to Max’s timeline with no way to return to the future. If you remember: A Star Glass takes you back to a time or event that is important to someone. For Monica, in the future where time travel is banned, she used the item to go back in time where Max was. So in context it means that Monica wanted to go to the past and be with Max. Does that make sense?

Aww! :/ Do Max and Monica fall in love with each other or do they not? Huge missed opportunity if not! :/
Here’s a interesting note: In the after game chapter Monica uses a Star Glass to return to Max’s timeline with no way to return to the future.
If you remember: A Star Glass takes you back to a time or event that is important to someone. For Monica, in the future where time travel is banned, she used the item to go back in time where Max was. So in context it means that Monica wanted to go to the past and be with Max.
Does that make sense?
