One of my favorite things about your Old Norse works is that they mostly focus on the Christian Norse, instead of the pagan vikings. So rarely do you see people who sing in Old Norse that arn't neopagans, so thank you for releasing works like this and reminding us of the might and piety of vikings who have the Holy Spirit with them.
I mean...
That's usually what goes through people's minds when they hear the word "Vikings"
I only think of the Christian Vikings towards the end of the Viking Age.
And so authentically in a skaldic style, too, even if with a modern twist.
That's probably because a true Viking is a Pagan Viking. The whole idea of a Christian Viking is a complete farce. Christian Vikings were traitors to their country, people and Gods.
Because literally nobody thinks of Christians when they think of Vikings.
That's because in fact Christianity had caused vikings to go extinct in Norman's societies, as there weren't many potential targets left for raiding parties and violence, especially against fellow Christians, was strongly discouraged by the Church.
We Orthodox Christians still pray it . For us this is one of the MOST important prayers we have. Thank you for this beautiful content !
Herre Jesus Kristus, Guds son, förbarma dig över mig en syndare!
I Faderns, och Sonens, och den Helige Andens namn.
Amen
Amen.

Heer Jezus Christus, zoon van God, heb genade voor mij, een zondenaar! 🇳🇱☦️

Ohhh really? My dear brother, please, PLEASE do make an Old English version of this! I've been looking for an OE translation of the Jesus Prayer all over the Internet, and there's none! 😮 I'm not as good in OE yet to translate it myself... I'm an Orthodox Christian who loves old languages, and this video is such a treasure! Thank you, THANK YOU so much for this beautiful Old Norse version, and for your singing - you sound wonderfully enigmatic... like a viking who became Christian 😊

What I love about your Norse music is that the Christian. People seem to forget they converted. Also the lack of throat singing 😂
Just want to say I love what you are doing and wish you much success. With respect and admiration, from a brother of the North and of Christ.
Thanks a lot for this, my friend. God bless and strengthen you
@@SkaldBard It is an honor and a pleasure. I found your channel through one of your magnificent Norse Crusader songs. A true joy, and you are doing something unique and much needed. I would go as far as to say Divinely Inspired.
I think there are many of us who wish to honor our ancestors as well as glorify & speak mightily of our Savior, and the two are not (and never have been) mutually exclusive. Indeed for well over the last 1000 years (and even into the Viking Age) the overwhelming majority of Warriors of the North have been Christians. I did not seek out constraint with "neopagans" but it seems plenty of them have issue with men like me, and also make the folly of assuming we are weak and to be taken advantage of like the false portrayals of Christians in the media. They do this at their own peril, and with no awareness of history. If you will forgive the wall of text, I actually just said this to a larpagan in another comment on this beautiful video:
"Yet the only reason the Norse Sagas are even known is because of Christian Theologians (namely Snorri Sturluson) recording them for posterity. That profile picture combined with the name tells the whole story: your "knowledge" of the Viking Age is a result of a terrible revisionist video game littered with modern political nonsense, and a tv show on the "history" channel that was once entertaining at least but became unwatchable after the great main character died. And was also littered with modern political nonsense. A couple other video games and "reimaginings" and the result is the basis for "neopagans" with a patchwork "faith" that perpetuates outright falsehoods & ignores large parts of what is historically known. Especially the part about how important your bloodline is.
Meanwhile I am a Christian and a true Northman, I know the Poetic & Prose Eddas backwards and forwards, same with the Hávamál, and same with the Orkneyinga saga. I especially like that last one as it's the historical account of my ancestors. I am a direct descendant of Norwegian Kings and the line of the Jarls of Orkney, who themselves were ancestors of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots (and my 23rd Great Grandfather). In my line are a litany of Christian Norsemen who were mighty heroes & leaders: including Sigurd the Stout, Thorfinn the Mighty, and Saint Magnus of Orkney. Let me guess, you never heard of any of them, right? Go ahead and do a google search. And whilst you decorate yourself like a Christmas tree with corporate ornaments based on other people's ancestry, perhaps stop and think before the next time you decide to open your mouth about subjects you are not only out of your depth in, but have an outright false understanding of."
I enjoy listening to Gregorian Chants & beautiful ancient songs like Palästinalied. I also enjoy the work of Danheim, Wardruna, and the like. What you are doing is powerful because it stirs the soul as well as the blood. May Almighty God bless & protect you and your family, always.
This would no doubt sound very familiar to a Christianized Northman from approximately the 12th century. Right down to the lyre. Awesome work! Beautiful collaboration between your wife and yourself.
Herre Jesus Kristus, Guds sønn, miskunn meg, en synder.

I have a question. Are you planning on releasing more Old English songs? I love that language. I also have one more suggestion though: a song in German. I love such songs as the original Palastinalied or some german march songs or songs such as the German performance of Herr Mannelig by Karl Sternau. I'm currently learning German and I'm in love with the language. I like all your songs. You, together with Farya Faraji, are both the artists I listen to a lot on TH-cam. Just wanted to tell you that I would highly appreciate it if you uploaded a song in Old English or a song in German.
Hey friend, yeah, there will be more Old English coming and I have some plans for Old High German / Middle High German and Old Saxon :-) stay tuned!
@@SkaldBard Thanks. I will definitely be waiting for both Old English and for German. Regarding German, there are so many military marches or other folk songs on TH-cam, but hearing something actually from the earlier period - the medieval - would be so great.
Karl Sternau is probably racist
Thank you and all glory to God
Great song. I love it when your wife sings as well.
Skald!
Another Jesus Prayer to add to my collection, and not a bad one at all. Although my preference in your work is certainly Old English, Old Norse is a definite second. I think that your performances in this language are astounding and i believe this is due to the fact you take such care and precision to your pronunciation of every letter.
I am also appreciative of your Christian focus as for languages such as Old English and even more Old Norse the majority of people who take the time to learn, compose and sing are Neo-Pagans. However your Christian focus is a great piece to contrast and represent the huge impact Christianity had on these people. Anglo Saxons were converted not long after their invasion of Britain by the Scots if i am not mistaken and the Vikings converted a few hundred years later due to the influence of the Germans - I'm pretty sure that's correct. so, in reality these peoples were Christian the majority of their time and the representation of this is greatly outnumbered by neo-pagans.
Also, if you wouldn't mind, I translated this prayer into Old English some time ago. would you mind just checking the accuracy please?
Great Work as always
give my commendations to you and your wife please
God Bless

Hello my friend! I hope you are well. I wanted to thank you again for taking this beautiful language which has become so saturated with the Pagans and giving it a Christian context to honor both history and our Lord. I had a song request, if it is not too much to ask. I was wondering if you'd be willing to translate Wir sind die letzten Goten into Gothic? If you have other songs you'd rather get to first, I completely understand but it's just a thought. Thank you and God bless!

It’s interesting that Runes are almost always associated with pagans and the Vikings as well, but here it was used in a prayer by the Vikings.
Maybe a song could be made in old Chinese about the first Christians who were converted in the 600s.
Or a song in Assyrian, Coptic, or Aramaic about the Arab/Muslim conquests in the Middle East. Maybe it could have some Farsi or Greek in it as well (that may be too much though).
Thanks for the suggestions, friend. And yeah, interestingly enough, there are actually more extant Christian runestones than pagan ones.
