    I'm a lighting tech and I fix a lot of broken things but this would usually be a parts/donor fixture for us rather than a full referb. Interesting to see how you did it though.

    • @photonpilot__
      @photonpilot__ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm also a tech and I agree. This would have been a good donor since it was so beat up. Would not have been worth returning to service and restoring.

    You should have applied fresh heatsink compound to the switching transistor... Good to see you spray the push button switches... I would have expected you to use cables for the inputs and outputs, not separate wires... The cooling fan sounds pretty noisy... Otherwise, a very good job on this restoration... 8/10

    • @GGigabiteM
      @GGigabiteM 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They probably don't have a DMX512 bus controller, hence why the cables weren't used.

  • @Lesnz2009

    Are they LEDs? They certainly look like they are...one of the aluminum vents looks to have some carbon marks...brilliant job in more ways than one.

    Muy buen trabajo. Detalle: el cooler está al revés y la pintura debe ser de acabado mate para no reflejar.

  • @CraigCChen
    @CraigCChen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    This light is fairly new. It's probably only few years old. It uses LEDs and it's quite expensive.
    Either this came from a fire or disaster or you made it look worst before you restore it.
    I have hard time believing you got this in such a bad condition.

    • @lukek8357
      @lukek8357 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen fixtures in bad condition after building works where something gets left behind and damaged. Others get dropped, stolen and dumped, are in fires or floods. It happens a bit but typically we would use them for parts not repair them unless they're super unique or impossible to replace.

    • @orto6356
      @orto6356 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those aren't that expensive actually. It's a China import. I have a venue that gets tons of these off of eBay for $15-30 a fixture.

      Tbh we got a 2 t bars worth of that fixture for less than a 100$
      But usually the goos stuff like the fixtures that has zoom and multi instances are worth easily 250$ per fixture

  • @thesoundplace4210
    @thesoundplace4210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Love the dmx in/out cables...this video seems to me a total fake.
    the par led was reduced in those conditions just to make the video i repaired hundreds of them and if it was exposed to dust or water, the fan, the main board and the led board are the first things to be dirty or rusty and corroded.

    • @jonchio7568
      @jonchio7568 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I think so too.. The board on the inside looks brand new as he opens it. I think they just made the shell look rusty.

  • @tootall5559
    @tootall5559 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    very nice work However there is one minor flaw. The face of that cover that goes around the lights should have been silver. It was originally. reason for it is the reflectivity. that's the one place where you want it to reflect. the rest was flat black to absorb light so the light only goes where you want it to.

    • @darrenhales6094
      @darrenhales6094 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I am not mistaken, no part of an LED par fixture is silver for the purposes of reflection (like a reflector inside an normal Source 4). The LED emitters are on a black plate that he cleaned with contact cleaner. The lenses were then cleaned and applied back where they were. No painting took place there. Then finally, the opened holed cover for those lenses was applied. Again, no reflection takes place in any of these parts. The LED emitters shine their light through the plastic lenses and exits the fixture immediately after that. No reflector involved in these types of fixtures.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@darrenhales6094 well, you're not correct in stating that NO Led's have silver refectors. I have a few around here that prove you wrong. THAT one may not, I don't know. Light from anything but a laser travels in all directions, so a silver reflector is just a good idea. Granted more probably goes forward but not all. No non laser is that good. In fact I have one on my workbench that has a silver reflector all around the 12 or so LED bulbs it contains. I have had several flashlights and small round stick on lights that were LED and all had silver reflectors.

    • @darrenhales6094
      @darrenhales6094 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tootall5559 Sorry, I stand corrected on my first sentence about NO LED fixtures have reflectors. I was referring to a typical reflector.
      But, your original comment seemed very clearly to be talking about the flat black disc with all the holes in it, that he cleaned, buffed, and repainted black. That disc is simply used to hold the lens caps in place.
      If you stop the video at 1:35, you can zoom in and clearly see inside the back of the lens caps that are on the workbench. That is the only place a typical LED fixture has reflectors, as part of the lens assembly.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@darrenhales6094 Well sir, your assumption was actually correct... I think. That flat disc should be silver on the side the light is supposed to go out. I don't know how much you've done wisth LED's but frankly I haven't seen one that didn't have a sliver or chrome like reflector. I don't know why this one would be black. Plain fact is black absorbs light, (and heat wear a black shirt in the sun then wear a white one it's a noticeable difference) So the disc should be white or silver... that is if you want to get the most out of it. sliver tends to merge the individual lights into one beam better, or at least it seems that way. It actually does not matter if the light source is LED, incandescent or whatever, shiny reflects flat black does not.

    That spray paint is way too glossy, should use a matte finish. Not sure if the paint is high temp either, just because the fixture doesn't put off a lot of heat doesn't mean the fixture next to will be the same.

      it definitely looks like an outdoor/water fixture. likely used as a permanent or travelling outdoor light. potentially something in a fountain, or maybe at an outdoor performance venue. even if the fixture is designed for purely outdoor use, it will still eventually become damaged like this.

    • @Rottwiler44
      @Rottwiler44 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gregg Carter whoop i’m stupid i didn’t even notice all of the vents in the housing; i made that assumption looking at the i/o on the back noting that it didn’t have exposed powercon/dmx ports. but i would agree, it definitely was outdoor. no way it could’ve gotten weathered that badly in an indoor venue
