As a bit of history info, license for producing the FAL was free for any allied countries who wished to use it as a gift back from Belgium for helping them in ww2 I believe.
DSA has been making FALs for years, this is still DSA just for the PSA H&R brand. FN doesn't care & isn't going to retool for a very limited nostalgia market.

If it is any consolation, I have a Metric and inch pattern FAL, and both function fine with the Thermold AND ProMag polymer mags. And, yes, I have the old metal ones, too.

I kind of wish H&R would bring back the single shot Handi-Rifles. They were a neat way to get into different calibers without spending a ton of money for a full-blown new bolt gun.
Ditto. I spent a lot to make my L1A1 like new. That said I tossed up my hands and got a Springfield M1A1 with a synthetic stock. It's lighter, I can actually find parts, magazines, and it's inhumanly accurate. Also, it seems to cycle a tad faster and definitely smoother. The stock twangs (an engineered bend) when fired and helps the smoothness of the cycle. I'd say the recoil was reduced by 50%. The synthetic M1A is used by Delta Force operators. The M1A of 2025 is a much better rifle than the walnut lump of steel of 1960.

I came across an old Century thumbhole stock gun built from a complete Falklands kit built on a Brazilian receiver marked "made in Canada" for 600. At the time, (ten years ago) ARS was doing rebuilds for about the same price. I found a guy selling original milsurp metric mags (my gun takes metric) for 10 dollars a piece and bought his remaining stock. So for about 1400, I have a really nice clone of an L1A1 in metric with 25 mags. I do need an M1A for my collection. I already have an Ar10, the FAL, and the HK G3 (OG Bullseye PTR clone)
This looks a lot like my pre-ban Imbel FAL. I replaced the furniture with American Black Walnut made by Iron Wood Designs. Great looking snd fits me well. Good times.

But would that alternate timeline have then killed off Saint Eugene's AR-15/M-16? If the US had adopted a really nice rifle like this FAL, maybe they would not have been interested in the AR-15.
@ The US military could have used the FAL as a service rifle much longer than the M14, but it would likely still be replaced by the M16. Like the M14, the FAL would have been relegated to the role of a sniper or marksman rifle.
Had an STG58 with an Imbel receiver. It onced had a function 3 position fire switch. Sold it to get a SA National Match Standard Loaded Love my M1A, but so miss my STG. Sweet shooter.

Pindad (from Indonesia) was supposedly working on bringing their FNC clones to the US. Though, I’m not sure what the current status on that project is.

this better not be just a re-branded DSA FAL for $2,500. Make it a real PSA value firearm at a $1,000 price point and they will sell like hot cakes. And keep them in stock, unlike DSA FALs.

Nah, if you want one, there are some that import them for additional cost. I see no issue based on the length and features to get approval. Just takes time.
T48 was a metric based FAL. Also DSA's tooling originally came from Austria, so it was metric too. About the only inch/imperial thing they offer at the moment are some nice Aussie Lithgow replica SLR receivers.

They should refocus and release steel mags. Their polymer mags are ass and the one my FAL shipped with always struggles to cycle the first three bullets. Luckily I snagged surplus mags on gunbroker for prices not too absurd but some new FAL steel mags in 20 and 30 rd count would be god send.
I still see bins of 20 round FAL mags at gun shows for cheap. I’d imagine until those dry up, making tons of mags for the sake of it probably doesn’t make economic sense. I’m no expert on the platform though just going off of what I’ve seen
As someone who used the L1A1 back in the day, could someone explain why the top cover does not extend all the way to the end of the receiver on the T48 shown. Hopefully they will design a top cover that has an in built rail type system too.

I've got an StG 58 FAL built on a DSA receiver. It's a fine piece of engineering and a tack driver.
