Great reaction!!! If you are a little crazy, that's ok (we all are a little crazy). Glad I stumbled on your channel. You would really enjoy Kevin's video Down. It is crazy good.
I think Scott was mostly the leader when they first started out. He did a lot of work to get them on to The Sing Off. He found Kevin (beatboxer) on TH-cam. He sang most of the leads on the show. Most of the host’s questions were directed to him and he was their spokesperson. But, once they became professionals, they’ve taken more turns singing verses and they take turns being the lead.
I think the sing off terms were that they had to have a lead singer. Scott was the one who submitted the application = he is the leader. Post Sing off, they ALL make decisions about which songs to do, and the soloist is whoever sounds best for that section of the song. In the "Making of Evergreen" Mitch is heard saying "I'm not doing anything at this point. I can do ....."
If you like transitions, you should watch their "Evolution of" videos. My favourite is their "Evolution of Michael Jackson." It may look like Scott is the lead singer in many songs, but really they take turns with lead vocals, depending on what kind of voice the song calls for. Scott is a baritone with a phenomenal range and a smooth R & B sound, so he will often introduce a song, but sometimes he'll do mostly background with Kirstie while Mitch takes off. Their arrangements are based on what creates the most effective song, not on individual egos. It's part of what we love about them... you never know who you're going to get, and every song is a surprise. Looking forward to lots more Pentatonix with you!
Your guy Kevin has his own TH-cam channel (KO -- Kevin Olusola). His original instrument is cello and in college he started experimenting with "celloboxing" which is playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time. His channel has some videos from his college days, which is where Scott found him and recruited him to be the PTX beatboxer. His channel also has classical and pop arrangements for solo cello and with other musicians, some versions of pop songs where he builds layers of looping beats, voice and cello.
Time to learn their names Kevin , beatboxer, cello player and tenor Kirsten. ( kirsty). Mezzo soprano Mitch. High voice. Counter tenor Scott. Tall blonde. Baritone can cover bass Avi. 201-2017. Welcome to Pentaholics. You're not crazy for liking PTX even though they were out of your OLD comfort zone. I hope your channel can expand the comfort zone of others as well. This is a group who's songs get 10's, and sometimes 100's, of millions of views. They alone may have more views than half of TH-cam channels combined. Plus 3 grammys. And a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

These guys are so beloved by us Pentaholics. They are like our kids. We have watched them from the beginning of their journey together So happy you are loving their talent
Three Grammy wins for Pentatonix all in the early years when Avi Kaplan (pronounced Ah-Vee) was with them. Avi is the original basso profundo in the cornrows. This was Grammy win #1 and was filmed in Avi and Kevin Olusola's apartment. Kevin and Avi were known from their Sing Off (televised singing competition) days by Boyz to Men Shawn Stockman who was a judge as Meat and Potatoes. Best rhythm section ever in my opinion. Their 2nd Grammy win was a song without words nor instruments (no problem for PTX) entitled Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The 3rd Grammy win was a collaboration with Dolly Pardon of Jolene. For another EDM type ORIGINAL song written by Kevin and Avi please react to Love Again. Great reaction!
you know, you are going to have to watch them on the sing off. Mr. Duckbear has all of them. watch them in order, realize the three main singers knew each other, but found the other two just in time to practice what was needed for the audition. then they spent like a month or two practicing before filming began. and then they won. it's amazing to watch them invent themselves over the course of the season.
Kevin is an amazing beat boxer. Kirstie looks great in blue. This is their first of their three Grammys. Scott, with the light hair, certainly leads a lot, but most songs Kirstie, Mitch, and Avi add their own solos. Scott has amazing energy. Check out their "Evolution of Michael Jackson" video and their other evolution videos of artists Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and Rihanna.
Thank you for coming out of your comfort zone and listening to PTX. They are amazingly talented and are a family with no specific lead. It just depends on the song. Evolution of Michael Jackson, Imagine, Love Again. There are no bad songs. 💕
2:55 - In your first video, you knew there was a term for "singing without instruments" but you didn't remember what it was called. Here, you're using the term correctly. Soon you'll know all their names, and heck, I wouldn't be surprised if you've got concert tickets already or would at least go if they come to your city. So nostalgic watching you become a Pentaholic.
Ok so far I dig your reactions. I like your enthusiasm. You inspired me to comment because of what you said about stepping outside of your comfort zone. As a black woman that hits hard because you know it's hard for people in our culture to take that leap outside that bubble to explore the alternative. I applaud you 👏🏾. I am a proud PENTAHOLIC and was raised in the hood (Oakland CA) but made the choice to Branch outside that society bubble and broaden my horizons. Great music resonates with us All. I look forward to seeing your journey with PTX. This group has changed my life for the better. Peace and Blessings to you brotha 🙏🏾✌🏾 (Side note, be mindful of your usage of the N bombs with this audience) much respect 🙏🏾
@Kimmy F Loved your comment about going beyond your comfort zone. There is much more to the world beyond our small individual bubbles. However I must respectfully disagree about the use of the N word within the Pentatonix community on TH-cam. Unless those disgusting remarks are zapped immediately from the comments, I have not seen the N word ever being used here. We, as a society, must fight racism where it exists. However, I haven’t seen an example or it here. There was one instance when one commenter tried to get political and tried to get Pentatonix banned for appearing at the White House. He was promptly brought to task. Much love and respect from an old conservative white man.
@@dwfarr I appreciate your response sir but you grossly misinterpreted my comment as I just recently watching all of the previous reactions of this specific reactor and that message was solely based off his reaction style. As a person of the same culture I understand his slang and terminology, but some people may find it off-putting, so I simply asked him to be cautious of that within this audience.
Okay, here they are. The guy with the light hair is Scott Hoying. Normally his hair is blond, not white; I don't know whether they bleached it or powdered it for this video. Scott is a lyric baritone. His range extends well into the bass range on the low end and well into the tenor range on the upper end. Pentatonix was Scott's idea in the first place, and yes, frequently he is their lead singer, but everyone takes a turn at being lead, depending on the song. The beatboxer is named Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth). Not only is he one of the best beatboxers on the planet (maybe *the* best), he's classically trained on piano, saxophone, and cello. He's performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on the saxophone and once on the cello. He has also invented a technique that he calls "celloboxing," which is beatboxing while playing the cello - it was a viral video of Kevin celloboxing which first brought him to the attention of the others back when they were looking for a beatboxer to fill out the band. He has a pre-med degree from Yale. He speaks five languages, including mandarin. And on the rare occasions when he isn't too busy being the entire percussion section to sing he has a lovely tenor voice, and is known for the great beauty of his falsetto register. Kevin's eyes were unable to tolerate the blue contacts the others wore for this video, hence the visor. The woman is named Kirstin (also called Kirstie - rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado. Kirstin is supposed to be a mezzo soprano, but in reality her range begins at the low end of alto and extends all the way up through coloratura soprano, with some gorgeous whistle notes on top of that. The guy with the beard and corn rows is Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan. Avi is a lyric bass. He's an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances - but his range extends all the way through baritone and into the low end of the tenor range. Avi is also the only member of Pentatonix who has left the group, in late 2017, for personal reasons. He has since gone on to have a very successful solo career, and has formed a new band named "Avriel and the Sequoias." You can find his TH-cam channel by searching on "Avi Kaplan." I recommend subscribing. The clean shaven dark haired guy is Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable). Mitch is a counter tenor with a range of just over 6 octaves. Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, said Mitch's voice is "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life." Most of us just call it "angelic."
I enjoyed your reaction to this fun Pentatonix video. Thank you. This is a medley of 7 songs by Daft Punk. Pentatonix has hundreds of videos and songs, and they are all great. I look forward to more of your Pentatonix reactions. Please react to Pentatonix "Evolution Of Rihanna", "New Rules x Are You That Somebody?" and "If I Ever Fall in Love" featuring Jason Derulo.
Your enthusiasm is amazing. Thank you for being open to giving ptx a chance. They are so heavily underrated. Also keep in mind that they do a lot of covers with rapping in them or with hip/hop and R&b influences. Check out stuff that doesn’t have as many views because those are often overlooked
A large part of their genius is putting the right voice in the right part of the songs, both covers and originals. They all get to shine and they work AS A TEAM to make it incredible. I think Kevin's beatboxing in their original - Coffee in Bed is otherworldly. I also recommend their cover of Hallelujah. New subscriber here for more PTX.
Scott was originally lead singer but as they have grown in experience, other members take lead. Frequently, Mitch also takes lead, as for example in "Bohemian Rhapsody" and in parts of this medley. Often they will allow each member to take lead in turn. This is one of their earlier videos because Avi is in it. In 2017, Avi had to leave the group for family reasons and he helped them find his replacement, Matt. (You saw/heard Matt in your first video review, the "90's Dance Medley.")
Pentatonix have received 3 Grammys 1. Daft Punk 2. Dance of The Sugar Plum Ferries 3. Jolene featuring Dolly Parton 4. Nominated for their album “Evergreen” this year
Wow I hadn’t heard this yet but I was pleasantly surprised! Love how eclectic you are with your videos, you do a bit of everything! Great reaction 23rd!! Keep it going! 💪🙌🫶 #23rdGang #PatreonGang
The bass singer, Avi, is certainly capable of being a lead singer and currently has a solo career. He was just not given the opportunity often in Pentatonix.
Kevin is the b-boxer. He is phenomenal. In my opinion he is the most gifted musician I've seen in my lifetime. Check out kevin olusola down reaction. You will be blown away at this man's talent!!
PTX doesn't have a lead singer... they're a truly unique group that switches up the lead to the benefit of the song/ music. It's part of what makes them so magical I think. Scott seems to take the lead as he's a natural spokesman for the group but they've come a really, really long way... Once you get to their latest Christmas album watch their "Making of Evergreen" album. It really, really shows what a collaborative process they have.
There is NO lead singer. They all have fantastic talents and they choose whoever works best for each song.....they share equally as much as possible. Most of them have solo projects and they all agree that PTX comes first. They work together so well and don't appear to have any ego issues. It's probably easier when each one has a once in a lifetime talent!!!!
Avi, the original bass singer with Pentatonix, left the group and went out on his own. Try some of his music. Change on the Rise is phenomenal. Pentatonix songs . . . Hallelujah, Imagine, Sounds of Silence. Also, if you like Acapella try some Home Free...When a Man Loves A Woman
Fun reaction! So many epic ones to recommend: Sound of Silence, Can’t Hold Us, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Amazing Grace, Mad World, Love Again (original), Problem, Radioactive…
If you want to check out another amazing acapella group check out "Home Free" They are a country-based group, but can sing anything. Probably the best order to listen to them to get started is: Man of Constant Sorrow, Ring of Fire, End of The Road, and Mayday.
Now I could be wrong bc I haven’t went thru all your videos but just based on the ptx songs it’s showing for you on your playlist for them on my phone, you haven’t even listened to any of their best songs other that this one. They just put a new live VEVO performance of the Seal song “kiss from a rose”! You HAVEEEE TO SEE IT. (Not the album version) the LIVE version on VEVO! Please watch it! You will not regret it! Also watch Hallelujah, Imagine, Sound of Silence, Mary did you know… 😂 shall I go on?
There is no lead singer.. the lead is done by the singer that does the most for the given song.. They are like a family and work as a team.. they love each other. 3 of them grew up together and their harmonies are flawless.. The bass in this one was Avi Kaplan.. he has been the only change in their 11 years as a group. He left after 6 years due to exhaustion and missing home.. They were doing world tours by then. They then found Matt Sallee and he has been with them since 2017.
Scott tends to be lead speaker and I think he handles a lot of the groups matters, but this was especially true when they first started out. They present an equal unified front though and don't have an assigned "leader" position.
Just found your channel, and am working through your PTX videos. Hip hop…… Scott (blonde) and Mitch (dark hair with high voice) have a side group called Superfruit. Check out Superfruit’s Hip-Hop Goes Broadway 1&2. It’s hilarious and amazing. Just FYI - PTX is family friendly, and Superfruit is a little more adult.
Citizen Queen came out of A Capella Academy that is Avi, Ben Bram and Rob Dietz' summer program for 12-18 year old singers and beatboxers from around the world. Ben Bram and Scott just took singers from that program for both Citizen Queen and Acapop Kids.
I have a suggestion If you react to The Sound of Silence. There's 3 versions. Try reacting to all 3 on one video. The Original is by Simon and Garfunkel from back in the 60's. Then react to the version by Disturbed and then finally Pentatonix. It's a classic and all three versions are great. I think you'll like all 3.
Pentatonix rabbit hole lol, Hallelujah Sing (a PTX original) Cheerleader Royals Bohemian Rhapsody Sound of Silence Can't hold us Joyful joyful Mary did you know Amazing grace Lol there's a taste. Have fun
They made thos at one of their apt. I believe the fikmed in a bathroom and editted it inbthe walk in pantry. I think they said it costv$300 make up and all and won qn Emmy ! And you can see why. . They are each so talented but together Amazing. .
If you want to blend your love of hip hop with PTX, you should check out Feeling Myself by Superfruit (Scott & Mitch from PTX side project) (they also have 2 “hip hop goes broadway” videos which are hilarious. And there’s also the PTX covers of No and Can’t Hold Us which feature some rapping as well.
You have to listen to every genre of music music is the key to set yourself free Violence drugs and the increase of poverty music is the answer for real
Avi Kaplan (with the braids) was the original bass in the group. He left in 2017 due to family reasons and was replaced by Matt Salle... And no, there are no lead singers, however Scott does seem to take the lead more often than the rest... And just for the record, even tho he's gone, he will ALWAYS & FOREVER be my favorite... AVI-OUSLY... PLEASE react to their cover of Kiara's GOLD
Daft Punk was there first of three Grammy’s. Cost $400 filmed in Kevin’s closet and edited in the kitchen. Not PTX songs Space oddity in outer space Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald Timothy by the Bouys
Sigh, I'm learning to put TLDRs at the end of these long posts. Damn impatient whipper snappers (WTF are they called whipper snappers, anyways, that's a weird expression). Scott isn't the lead singer of the group, because they don't delineate like that (no joke, took me three tries before spell-check approved "delineate" lol). He is a natural leader, though, and their main spokesperson. That dynamic was probably developed in high school. Scott probably does take the lead singing role in the majority of PTX songs, but not the VAST majority. At least over 51%, I'm guessing. However, what really is the deciding factor for who is singing depends upon the SONG. Some songs just work better with different leads, so they choose who is best for each role, accordingly. For the most part, there are three main singers, one singer/bass hybrid, and one beatboxer/cellist who can also sing, but because he is needed for the beat, and nobody else can beatbox as well as he can, he's never the main lead. Doesn't mean he isn't a badass, obviously. Their basic formula is the trio (Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin [who have known each other since before high school) decides who amongst them (if any) will be lead and the other two will usually provide harmonies and "instrumental" backup. However, in many songs, the lead will change as the verses change. If Scott takes the lead, then Mitch and Kirstin will be backup, while Kevin does Beatboxing and Avi (or Matt) does bass. If Mitch takes the lead, then Scott and Kirstin will be backup, while Kevin does Beatboxing and Avi (or Matt) does bass. If Kirstin takes the lead, then Scott and Mitch will be backup, while Kevin does Beatboxing and Avi (or Matt) does bass. However, if Matt or Avi take the lead, then Mitch and Kirstin will be backup, while Kevin does Beatboxing and Scott will take over the bass. Not gonna lie, I think one of my favorite dynamics is when Kirstie takes the lead, not just because her voice is freaking amazing, but Scott and Mitch doing a duet and/or collaborating together is so flipping adorable (please react to "Rather Be"). If you haven't figured it out by now, they're best friends. TLDR; They know what they're doing and they're GOOD at it.
If you like the beat boxer (Kevin). He's got a few things where he does everything on the track. th-cam.com/video/IGjg193h4Ok/w-d-xo.html that link is his cover of a song where he does everything man. Check it out bro.
Bruh....seriously. Why the heck do you say you don't have any talent? Just after you talked about how they are so good at transitioned, your VIDEO transitioned from one format to another just to keep the Copyright Gods at bay. Not only can you edit, but you're not afraid to use new techniques. Well done!
I do think when it comes to singing bass notes, particularly the lowest ones, Avi’s voice was a bit stronger and richer in tone. But Matt has the better voice IMO when it comes to the medium to higher range of the bass scale and into the baritone. I also think Matt does a bit better on camera - he is really engaging and has great facial expressions & body movements. They are both great in their own way.
If you want to blend your love of hip hop with PTX, you should check out Feeling Myself by Superfruit (Scott & Mitch from PTX side project) (they also have 2 “hip hop goes broadway” videos which are hilarious. I think Kevin's beatboxing in their original - Coffee in Bed is otherworldly. I also recommend their cover of Hallelujah.
New subscriber here for more PTX.
You always say the same things that I think too!! Can you read my Mind? You're always super funny, that's why I love you so much! Lmao.......😂🤣😂❤💯
Lmao we are family . Thanks for watching
Yessss, we are!!! 💪❤💯
This video is waaaaaaay out of my Motown comfort zone. And I am now obsessed with it and PTX. Please react to Havana.
MJ medley is fun!
They also rap ... Check their Macklemore cover "Can't Hold Us" or their original "Sing"
Check out their cover of Problem and Can’t hold us.
This is my favorite video of theirs that I love to see new reactions too. It is one of their early ones after they won “The Sing Off”
Pentatonix have received 3 Grammys
1. Daft Punk
2. Dance of The Sugar Plum Ferries
3. Jolene featuring Dolly Parton
4. Nominated for their album “Evergreen” this year
Wow I hadn’t heard this yet but I was pleasantly surprised! Love how eclectic you are with your videos, you do a bit of everything! Great reaction 23rd!! Keep it going! 💪🙌🫶 #23rdGang #PatreonGang
Aye thank you queen
Every singer is a lead singer except the bass singer they all have their own songs and they are phenomenal I mean for real
The bass singer, Avi, is certainly capable of being a lead singer and currently has a solo career. He was just not given the opportunity often in Pentatonix.
If you like Kevin the beatboxer definitely check out his cover of ‘down’ to really see how amazing he is
Yes, yes yes please!
There's no lead singer. Different songs depends on the lead. You should check out Pentatonix "Evolution of Michael Jackson" 🤯🤯
This video was made in their closet for 400.00 and they won their first Grammy for it ❤
They have A rap video too. This is an Academy Award song.😊
Kevin is the b-boxer. He is phenomenal. In my opinion he is the most gifted musician I've seen in my lifetime. Check out kevin olusola down reaction. You will be blown away at this man's talent!!
This was their 1st Emmy win. . 1st of many
I'm going through your PTX playlist and thoroughly enjoying myself. New subscriber, thank you!
Must remember to pause at end of verse and also chorus. Damn record companies. Keep the fun reactions 😂
Perfect and Can’t Hold Us
Thank you for doing this, great reaction! I agree with some of the others that you really need to check out Evolution of Michael Jackson. Take care!
Thank you
You should check out Amazing Grace, Imagine, Sing, Cheerleader, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and Hallelujah
Can you see why they won their first Grammy for this!
Subscribed for PTX
3:28 Your "What the...?" was sorta in sync with their "luh luh luh" 🤣
Try "Can't Hold Us" it should be right up your alley
Side rabbit hole: watch Kevin Olusola (beatboxer) cover of Marian Hill - Down
This won their first Grammy.
Can you reaction to the prayer form ptx that song is a amazing you going to like that
Now I could be wrong bc I haven’t went thru all your videos but just based on the ptx songs it’s showing for you on your playlist for them on my phone, you haven’t even listened to any of their best songs other that this one.
Their version of Imagine is something you have not heard. It is fabulous. Please check it out.
You have to react to citizen Queen, I’m pretty sure 2 off the members in this group created them!
Scott was the mastermind behind Citizen Queen
@@brodee2002 Yep. Plus their arranger Ben Bram. And one other guy. They out together both citizen queen and aca!pop
This is a wonderful idea!!!
Cost about $400.00, was filmed in a closet, they won a Grammy for it. Talk about creative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow amazing
@@23rdMAB they created a new category at the Grammies to get this voted on

They made this video in Avi & Kevin's apartment. It cost them $400.00 to make it and they won their first Grammy for it.
Not true - the supplies cost them $400 (black sheets, makeup, blue contacts and ring light primarily) the video was produced by Fifgen Films.
This video cost a total of $400 to make. Recorded in a closet and filmed in a kitchen. They won a Grammy for it.
And there’s also the PTX covers of No and Can’t Hold Us which feature some rapping as well.
try can't hold us or if I ever fall in love featuring Jason Derulo
They actually shot the video inside closet in their apartment

if u wanna hear Kevin( beatboxer) sing do mary did you know or he goes off in carol of the bells & lil drummer boy
Thank you
Check out Dee lite “groove is in the heart”
Daft Punk was there first of three Grammy’s. Cost $400 filmed in Kevin’s closet and edited in the kitchen.

Love your PTX reactions. Please react to Can’t Hold Us. Ryan Lewis Macklemore cover/upgrade.
Well done!
Cost them $400 to make this video, filmed in Avi and Kevin’s kitchen and closet apartment
it's skipping?
There isn't really a lead singer now. Tbe lead is whoevers voice works best with the song
You really haven't seen anything yet
They lost real talent when that bass dude left. The songs he’s in adds another depth to the music they don’t have now.
Not true at all.
Disagree.. Avi is amazing but so is Matt.. each in their own way
I do think when it comes to singing bass notes, particularly the lowest ones, Avi’s voice was a bit stronger and richer in tone. But Matt has the better voice IMO when it comes to the medium to higher range of the bass scale and into the baritone. I also think Matt does a bit better on camera - he is really engaging and has great facial expressions & body movements. They are both great in their own way.
