This is a compelling topic to me. I like eat in a day reaction videos from Gojiman and Abbey Sharp. I’m just fascinated by how people make choices and as someone who wasn’t raised in a health conscious household I like seeing what other people do. I saw an older video with Katie Sackoff talking about her acting roles and body types of the characters which included exercise and nutrition and it was refreshing to hear her transparently talk about aesthetic goals, there was no veiled orthorexia which I find unnerving in a lot of eating videos. I always love your food ideas because they feel so inclusive to me, realistic in terms of the cost, time and effort with no focus on restriction. I have high fasting glucose and poor fodmap tolerance and I told all my doctors my goal wasn’t to be stricter in my eating but more resilient in what I can digest so that I have freedom around food choices.

YES!! Influencers really need to learn how visual communication works (although I feel like they already do know and just try to bs their way out of taking responsibility for their role in toxic fitness and diet culture lol)

I love your style of video, it's like a casual chat with a friend playing in the background. It can be difficult to watch WIEAD vids and remain critical, I try and limit it them to athletes, more from a curious-about-performance-nutrition-approaches, or - most honestly/frequently - to just have noise on in the background when I'm bored/lonely 🤣

I wasn’t sure where to leave this comment but I knew I wanted to leave it somewhere where others could see it :) - I love your workout videos, Justina! I had wanted to do strength training for a few years before I found you, but I could never stick to my schedule and my workouts would last around 2 hours (I would take very long breaks and also had no idea what I was doing or why). Because I was so inconsistent I could never see any results, and it was quite demotivating and just made me feel like in spite of being an active woman in her late 20s, who is healthy weight and has done a lot of running and yoga, I could never have a strong core, it was just not on the table for me.
Then 3 months ago, after having watched your videos for over a year, I decided to sign up to the FIIT Club. I have now done your Strength program twice, and I’m currently on my last week of Stability. I went hiking in the mountains a week ago and I realised that my lower back did not hurt once, even though lower back pain after walking for a longer time had become the norm for me in the last 5 years. I could not believe it. I then thought “still though, I’m struggling with push-ups and I’ve been working on them every week…” and yesterday I suddenly did 10 full push-ups (my starting point was -1). Hell I can even lie flat on my stomach now and push myself up without using my knees, which I never thought I could do!!
I’ve learnt so much from you, like how to position my body, how to brace my core, the purpose of the functional exercises, and what a good efficient programming can achieve. I have tried workouts of other youtubers, but I was struggling to relate to the six pack abs/ginormous glutes and body checking, or was just annoyed by the attitude of a trainer and how they introduced the exercises (not speaking or just being too positive and happy about the really hard parts). With you it’s been so easy that I find myself looking forward to the workouts. I love how healthy and strong you look, and how you don’t want people to focus or comment on your body. You’re always upbeat but I never found myself annoyed by your positive energy, you acknowledge the hard parts as well as the easier ones, you lead me through every exercise making me feel like I have a workout buddy. You explain everything with care making me trust the process. I even do your HIIT and Tabata workouts, even though I had always hated this type of cardio.
Basically, I just wanted to say that you have been the best strength trainer I could wish for, and thanks to you I have already transformed my body in ways I never thought I could. Thank you!! I can’t wait to see what happens as I continue doing your programs :)

I find that even if they don't do a body check in the video, it's in the thumbnail. I left some constructive feedback in the comments of a influencer's WIEIAD videos where her thumbnail had a body check, explaining what you did here for this influencer to keep in mind for young and inexperienced persons clicking on her video. She ignored the comment (red flag?), but I got some comments from others saying she isn't responsible for how everyone takes a video and what I was saying was mean and unhelpful.

"What I eat in a day" is not what you should eat.
Every country has different food availability and traditional diets.
It pains me every time I see an Indian eating Avocados, oats, or sandwiches by blindly copying some international youtubers' diet.
Eat your traditional diet. Celebrate its uniqueness.
    Another great video 🤜🤛

All of this is not discussed enough! Especially the body check. I also would not make a WIEIAD video personally, because I’m in a deficit, and my calories and food are not going to be what is right for someone else. I have seen some from some runners and endurance athletes that I like, because they’re frequently showing how much they’re consuming to fuel long training, and speaking from that perspective and not a weight/physique perspective.

  • @ThePerceptionTrainersPT
    @ThePerceptionTrainersPT ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, I think again people are putting WAY too much weight on these W.I.E.I.A.D videos.
As you stated, first and foremost, there's literally no way of telling if what someone shares in one of these videos is actually what they do on a regular basis, if it's even what they actually did on that day, how long they have been doing what they're doing, or can we really know the full scope of the results they are ACTUALLY getting from eating how they are.
For a long time I watched a lot of W.I.E.I.A.D videos from the vegan community for example, and in every video the creator would be exclaiming that their diet was amazing and made them feel amazing (and usually also was making them lean let's be honest...) only to come out a few months later saying they are no longer vegan because they had all of these symptoms and it was the vegan diet that ruined them and no one should be vegan.
Which always made me ask - why were all of your videos so positive then? When did you start making videos that didn't align with what you were actually experiencing? There was obviously some false information somewhere - either what they were saying they were eating wasn't the truth, or it was and they weren't actually feeling how they said they were.
Which leads us to understand that people on the internet have an IMAGE to uphold. They aren't making these videos just to give people ideas and inspiration - they are making them because they are content that makes money. Which means that they are going to post content that...makes money, not content that is honest.
Many fitness influencers are similar - they have brand sponsorships to fulfill, they have to look a certain way but they also have to present that ANYONE can look that way and that it's simple - which leads me to believe that most of the time I think what people are saying they are eating and what they actually are eating likely aren't the same thing.
Because their content, their bodies, their food - it's a business. And again, the whole idea is to make things *look* approachable. Because the ONE credential an influencer has most of the time is relate-ability. They have to make you feel like they are 'just like you only a little shinier' - so they can't show super low calorie days, they can't show complex and expensive food days, they can't show what isn't going to come across as 'you could do this to and having this body is easy'.
We have to remember that extremely lean and fit people, models, people who are looking like they are living in perfect health - that is their BRAND. Which means they have a LOT of incentive to sell you that you can have what they have simply by doing these easy, reasonable things. But most of the time as you stated, they are genetically blessed, they are financially well off, their entire LIVES are their bodies so they have a tone of time and energy to direct to eating and working out that most people don't have, they are going to hide certain things that don't align with their image, they are going to lie to themselves and us if their brand and their results don't match - there's so much going on that I don't really think it's reasonable to think that anyone is being all that truthful.
There are so many factors that go into someones body shape and size. I know we all want to believe it's as simple as eating and working out like an influencer says that they are in a video - but we have to be more critical in our view of all of this.
As you said, follow a dietitian and get individualized advice if you are really looking for specific results. Otherwise I think take most of this as entertainment...

I would love to hear you rank overused/underused/DUMB diet phrases. My least favorite is "low-calorie/high-protein". Protein has calories, and calories are good, just say low carb or low fat if that's what you mean. That's like saying "this painting is low-color but has a ton of green". mini-rant over.
