Marty, she's a 1965 - 1968 early series Selectamatic she has a AD4/47 motor not a AD4/49 like your other 990. Common with these old girls is the rear oil seal which isn't a seal but a oil flinger and over time they get blow bye and push oil onto the clutch and oil inpregnant it and slip. Pull the dipstick and check for blow bye. Have genuine db workshop books on this tractor if you need and I can scan and email them to you

He nonchalantly killed a poisonous spider lol. What I'm surprised about is he never seems to blow hydraulic lines on these old machines. My father bought a 50 year old backhoe/dozer, a small one, like 5000 pounds. Every time he used it he blew a hydraulic line until they were all replaced.

@@markflajsner9944 Yes but I wasn't sure of the state of the engine or g/b, for all I know it could have been seized. . Glad you found the rust prevention tip helpful. It makes sense when you think about it, wherever there is an oil leak in a machine, under the old oil is always well preserved due to lack of oxygen. Cheers

It’s amazing how there are some people out there with stuff like this, they might tinker with the problem then lose interest and just let it sit then eventually get rid of when all it was to run was a simple cleaning and checking filters. I’ve gotten a couple of lawn tractors and mowers that people say they don’t run....cleaned the carb, fresh fuel and runs like new. Love these videos!

by the way.. a TIP for starters on equipment that have sat a long time.. short the solenoid top to bottom post.. this spins the armature and does the commutator a nice cleaning without load.. don't let if freewheel spin under power for long.. just touch and let it spindown.. touch and let it spin down.. no use exploding the armature with excessive speed. and the spin down without electrons jumping the brushes is really a good way to clean the surfaces..

David brown is the best tractor made in my opinion. I have a 71 990 I got for $800 sat many years was listed on the web as "diesel engine" I asked why and he said the tractor was junk because the power steering and hydraulics didn't work. I flushed all the fluids and replaced the filters, painted it, tires, rebuilt steering ram, did some electrical work, cleaned fuel system and it's just a unstoppable little tractor. Next I'm going to pull my injection pump as I'm getting some fuel in my oil and its not from the fuel transfer pump

When I first read that you bought another tractor 🚜 I thought you needed it like a hole in your head, but what a score, your a clever bugger Marty and just sitting back watching you play around with machinery is a pleasure to see, I bet the previous owner has watched this and is now spitting sparks and wishes he kept it😅😅 can't wait to see the next installment, cheers Marty from Marlburian living abroad. 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks man, a lot of people can't be bothered with old tractors when they start giving trouble so they just flick them off and buy a new one, I prefer the old ones for some reason

@@MartyT Couldn't agree more. Our 885 was getting tired a few years ago, so we went and bought....another one. Got it fully rebuilt to as new (give or take the aesthetics), then sent in our original for the same treatment. Now we have two, which makes life much easier.
New tractor? Never really considered it.

I'd definitely say Bargain! 👍 David Browns are good tractors, we have quite a few of them here in the states mostly 70s models, like this one. They just need a little love and they'll run for decades. Congrats on your new acquisition Marty!

I have an old Agria 9900E and had issues where it kept running out of fuel, turns out the in tank filter had fallen to bits and chunks of rust were blocking the fuel lines. Runs like a beast now.
