Good video overall, but you should have shown exactly where you put the jack in the front, and then the orientation of the blades. It is much easier to show on the video (yours was cut off from viewing) exactly how the blades go on, some people questioned this, and it can be confusing.
There's a bracket in the front you can use to jack it up and I actually set my front wheels on jackstands. The blades only go on one way. There's a toothed hole in the middle.
Nice how to video I'm changing mine today. My old blades look the same as yours.
I would add this though; ...see if you can screw a 3/8 lag eyebolt in to something you can pull the mower under so you can tie the mower up to it, after you get it jacked up with the floor jack. Jack stands would be nice too.
Also, he didn't mention anything about the bolts being reverse thread, so I'm assuming they aren't, which was why I looked this video up.
Why did you speed up the video for the actual removal of the blade? Am I correct that you turned the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the nut?
Sorry about that, it is counter clockwise to loosen!
Thanks for supporting our channel.🤙
Mine is stuck
@@michellerickman6565 I have the same issue
righty.tighty lefty loosey
This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability, deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.
and 18.5 is lacking 😂
Do you need to replace both at the same time? I hit a tree root and only bent one blade. Other blade is fine
That should be fine, the cut might appear slightly different if one’s dull.
Just sharpen the old one
Im in the exact same spot. Just about to change my blades for the first time now that ive got my yard in decent shape. Ive been REALLY hard on my blades up to now, rocks, wood, clods of clay etc. I was a little ashamed when i took a look at my blades, cant believe it cuts at all with those gnarly things on there.
Right?! They get so bad but then the people who have been mowing the exact same lawn for 30 years want to make fun of you 😂😂😂
I like doing things the easy way. I put a 5 gallon bucket upside down next to each front wheel of my Ariens IKON 52" zero turn mower. Then I simply lift the front of the mower about a foot off the ground and kick the buckets under the front wheels. Remember to lift with your legs and not with your back. I'm 70 years old so if I can lift it you younger guys should be able to also....
Might be a one...
Are the bolts right hand or left hand?
Just confirmed on my ts148x - it is standard: lefy-loosey, righty-tighty
For those wondering the direction to torque the bolts - I just confirmed on my ts148x - it is standard: lefty-loosey, righty-tighty
So that I am understanding this, and don't get me wrong I do like it, but, in order to do a "no lift" change all you need to do is lift it?
I think you’re overthinking it, without a dedicated lawn mower lift. Which most people don’t have. Most people have some sort of jack.
@@BreakFreeHomestead it was in jest!’
Learn how to remove the deck, it's 2 pins on each side one pin in front one pin in back 6 clips and you can easy slide it out. Not only is removing the deck make it easy to change the blades it's safer. In addition it gives you the chance to inspect all the other parts of the mower deck. So removing the deck is a win win. Hope this helps.
Which way do you turn the retaining screw to remove the blade??????
I have the exact same question! Can anyone answer this??? I couldn't tell in the video
Just confirmed on my ts148x - it is standard: lefy-loosey, righty-tighty
It is a myth..(most times) that the nut on a spinning blade goes opposite to normal..lefty loosey..righty tighty....that is still the correct procedure
Gotta question, just changed left and right. However the middle bolt just keeps spinning. Why is that?
Hi and thanks for the video! I was wondering if you could tell me where exactly did you place that wood to keep the blade from spinning? It appeared to be underneath the jack base?? Also, could you tell me the width of your mower? I'm thinking of purchasing one and I want to make sure it can fit through my fence's gate doorway. Thanks in advance!
You can put it on the edge of the cutout where your grass clippings come out on one side but the other you just pinch it basically in the way of the blade.
Its a 42 inch deck, i think it might vary a few inches with the metal edge.
@@BreakFreeHomestead Thank you for the clarification. I greatly appreciate it!
Just get a tape measure, measure your opening, then, when purchasing, bring your tape measure with you
@@BreakFreeHomestead Thank you, @BreakFreeHomestead! It's appreciated.
Is it better to lift the front or back of the tractor?
I don't think it really matters, just make sure you have a solid jack point and whatever you feel more comfortable with!
one of the blades just fell out along with the screw, screw undamaged, so the screw just screwed itself out?
That's weird, you might need to tighten it more. You could search the torque if you have a torque wrench. Or just put some loctite on the bolt.
@@BreakFreeHomestead Thx. Also the front weldment part # 98 (GT52XLS) dislodged on one side I guess after hitting a solid rock. Should I unscrew it's screw at the end in order to reinstall it without having to remove the mowing deck?
is this the model of Husq that's giving trouble with the rear spindles going out?
Hmm, idk i haven't had any issues.
Is it clockwise or counterclockwise to take the Blade off
lefty loosey, righty tighty...
Most of the time nut holding the blade is so tight it takes an act of God to loosen it.
So yes, replacing the blades is easy IF you can loosen the nuts.
yep nut is seized most of the time lol
Impact wrench.
@@ricks3313 Most folks don't have it. Plus, one needs room for impact wrench.
I've taken the deck off, put it on the side and used 5 foot pipe with breaker bar and a wood block for the blade. No job should be this hard.
@@ricks3313 that’s what I used 👍
What do you think about mulching blades, are they better?
It really depends what you want to do, you'll need to make sure you're aerating and what not because the compacted mulched material will be in the grass.
Do you really put them on without sharpening them?
Yes, you sharpen your new blades?
Hey I got a question. I bought blades off Amazon. They only gave me 2 for a 46 inch deck. And where to bolt the blade in I don't have a star looking hole. It's just a normal hole. Will this still work? I got highlift for a bagger I got coming.
Oh and I got the same more as you just a 46in deck
I think the concern is that you would have to over tighten it to keep them in place.
I found them on lowes;
www.lowes.com/pd/Husqvarna-2-Pack-46-in-Bagging-Riding-Mower-Tractors-Mower-Blades/1000361023
Model #586117302
When you search that on amazon you find one that showsd that model # and pictures a high lift blade but the description says mulch. So i guess its a gamble.
www.amazon.com/Husqvarna-46-Tractor-Blade/dp/B085NRJ1SZ/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=586117302&qid=1623411305&sr=8-3
Did you sharpen de blade or just put em the way you bought them
The way I bought them.
Thank you for this!!
Where exactly did you put the Jack under the tractor?
I just put it on the middle of the front axle.
I have a TYH23V42 that has almost the same frame design. Right on the lower front center you will see a thin metal chassis frame. Before jacking I tested to see if will bend. It holds OK! Not all lawnmower tractors may have...
@@velocast I do have that spot on my Toro. I was able to jack it up...but my bolt is stuck cause I couldn't get it off with my impact driver. I sprayed some WD40 on it, but still couldn't get it off. Think I'll need to try again with a breaker bar.
PB plaster!!!
@@BreakFreeHomestead :-) PB Blaster... typo police at the ready. :-) :-) :-)
Probably should have used blocks on back tires to prevent rolling back off Jack video was sped up so not sure how you unscrewed bolts counter clockwise
Apparently blocks aren't needed, because it's in gear. As far as bolt, righty tighty (clockwise) lefty loose (counter clockwise) pretty standard.
Are the bolts reverse thread
Exactly my question...
Thanks sir😊
Thank you !
I'm can only assume the bolts are reverse threaded correct?
They are not reverse threaded.
Never assume.
Great video. Thank you
Do you need to wash under the deck first
Not necessarily, but it might help if you have excess buildup.
Thanks man helped me out alot
Glad we could help! Thanks Josh!
You do realize that a jack is a lift right? Here's a better solution. Go to Harbor Freight or Northern Tool and get a chain hoist (they start around $70).
Find a tree limb strong enough to support your mower and strap the hoist to it. Then use the hoist to lift the front of the mower. Find something to
block up the mower for safety. Use a cordless impact driver with a 5/8" socket on it to loosen the blade bolts. Swap out for new ones and use the
impact driver to tighten the new blades onto the mower. Done.
Perfect, make a video to help everyone.
Dan, that sounds like twice as much work to do the same job...
Piece of spare plywood and a few 2x4 scrap pieces worked good enough for me. Super fast and easy also
Thanks for the vid, exactly what I needed to know.
Glad we could help! Thanks for supporting our channel!!! 🤙
Does the blades go a certain way
The curved parts go up!
@@BreakFreeHomestead that part I know what I was asking do you line. Them up straight across from each other
Robert Griffin look at the writing on the blades. It will usually say “Grass” thats the side that faces down, towards the grass.
Chock your wheels next time if that thing rolls you're getting a concussion or worse
True!! Definitely going to do that next time!
Please forgive my ignorance but, what did you mean when you told the gentleman to "Chock" the wheels for safety? Thanks in advance!
Just to put something on either side of the wheels to stop it from rolling forward or backwards.
@@BreakFreeHomestead Oh! I see! Thanks so much for clarifying that for me! It's appreciated!
@@femineity You can buy wheel chocks at Harbor Freight.
See: www.harborfreight.com/search?q=wheel%20chocks
Did you use the mower to cut out stumps???
😂😂😂 only the ones under 12".
No but really I was cutting some stuff that was pretty rough and not maintained before.
Did you ever tune up your riding mover
Thank you.
How old were those blades?
Pre dinosaur times. 😂
Thank You
You're welcome! Thanks for supporting our channel!!! 🤙🤙
You failed to place jack stands under the mower. Also, wheel chocks must be placed behind the rear wheels, even if using the parking brake. You want the mower to transform your yard--Not your body!
Bods by mower 🙌🙌
@@BreakFreeHomestead 😂
You must be fun at parties
use rhino ramps back the mower on lock the brake take the blades off
Hannah Lodge
I'm surprised you didn't clean the underside of the deck with a putty knife to get the caked on grass off.
Never, never, never run a mower with bad blades, especially with damage like those. It can seriously damage the mandrels among other things. I just bought a new mower just like yours and its vibrating like crazy
I investigated and it turns out to be blades, at least thats what if seems. Once I get new blades, I will be able to tell for sure.
For sure, they were pretty bad. Hopefully that fixes your problem!
Thanks for joining us we appreciate it! 🤙🤙
I realize it's been 8 months but next time you can actually just put your blade on a balancer (just like a little conical stand), see which side is heavier and just remove a bit more material there by sharpening some more.
Is there a process to lubricate the deck?
Ty
You're welcome Andrew, thanks for supporting us! 🤙🤙🤙
Very good video but you should’ve explained the blade side better…
Could have shown a little more detail in the process. While your blades were off, it would have been a good time to clean off the grass clippings stuck underneath the mower deck. That was nasty.
i could not tell wich side is up
The blade?
@@BreakFreeHomestead Yes the blade but i got a better shot of it so all is good now. Thanks for video.
Ok, that KS for supporting us!
5/8 socket or wrench since the genius in the video didn't want to disclose that for you all.
Why haven’t you made a better video yet?
He said 5/8 socket at around 1:05 in the video, genius.
Simple warning: Don't mow lumber yards.
I wouldn't say the lumber yard did it. Probably the rock garden.
Better block the tires next time
Shoulda Coulda Woulda.
Just arms has only (3) syllables!
Unplug the spark plug first. just sayin,
hmm, I have never seen a mower just start on its own before.
You forgot to show where the jack connected to the underside for raising the front end. It would only have taken a second to show the jackplate to the mower's bottom. We should not have to guess where they align. Also, there's no block/chock to go behind the real wheels for safety. Remember, to leave vital video and safety in your project is to fail in that regard to good videos. Thanks.
wydm no lif
Not having a dedicated lawn mower lift.
Believe in Jesus Christ and ask him for eternal life be blessed
Heard that 🤘
Why do Americans say ... Pretty bad and Pretty nasty?
Because were pretty freaking awesome! 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
no detail. wood placement where. right hand thread? I'm having a devil of a time. all you are doing is trying to sell new blades.
🤙
Bet your spindles were shot……
Finally just changed them out, they were ok then.
Nice job teaching people the absolute most dangerous way to lift something. Otherwise good video.
Sometimes you just gotta send it. If they were worried they would buy a lawn mower lift 😂
If somebody isn’t capable of jacking this up correctly then they shouldn’t be changing blades. Come on give the guy a break he’s trying his best. He can’t baby sit someone who hasn’t any common sense.
You edited out the actual work.
Because as soon as he started to yank on it , it would fall off that jack
Dangerous. Just drop the deck
I think you left too much out. You did not demonstrate removing the other blade which is the one that is difficult to deal with among a few other things. I'll give 2 out of 5 stars on this video. Pretty much a wasted 3:22. MAYBE next time?
Thanks for the support 👌
