Overall, I’m very pleased with this pack without the bugs. I really enjoyed it. But the bugs can render it unplayable and it’s very frustrating to be greeted with so many bugs on your first day with the pack.
I also just want to clarify, if I give a positive review, it doesn’t mean i’m untrustworthy. It just means I enjoyed something.

This is how I felt with Sims 3 Island Paradise. That was the pack I was most excited for and would have been my favorite of the whole Sims 3 game, IF I COULD HAVE PLAYED IT.
I'm probably going to wait till they sort this pack out before purchase. It bothers me that I'm getting used to stuff coming out broken.

Hello, hun. Ex-QA Tester for Electronic Arts here (was a long time ago though) and later Ex-Assistant Producer (same thing here). The issue is that the deadlines are so tight you can barely breath. Designers & Programmers use design documents to create the game, and the QA Team makes their own test cases based on the patch notes and whatever documentation they may access. The games are tested during development (Better known as Dev QA) and also in a specific QA phase. Even though the QA team finds bugs, if they are not 100% reproduced and the impact is not big enough, and also the time and cost is not worth the fix, the issue will be classified as "Known-shippable". This is what happens to way too many bugs. What you have listed as bugs are issues that EA considers "Known-shippable".
Known-shippable is a state where an issue is acknowledged and accepted and decided that it is not worth the time and cost investment for the difference fixing the bug may make.
Bugs are also classified in many categories at EA. A are for crashes, performance issues etc, B is mostly functionality and C is visual (typos, clipping etc). Most of the time, C bugs are not fixed unless they occur 100% of the time and the impact is quite big enough.

well that just proves how selfish they are. Not worth it to fix bugs but they expect people to think it's worth it to spen hundreds of dollars on their broken half-assed game. That's why I pirate the sims tbh

@@wolfbird6613 Electronic Arts barely cares about their employees. I cannot say too much, since I have signed a confidentiality contract, but they fired me so they can hire Indians to do high importance job tasks. I was fired only because Indians' pay is like 60% less, but also their quality is 80% less. I am not racist or anything, but EA wants to make as much money and don't care about quality. I cannot say more than this, sadly. Trying to abuse some loopholes right now. And let's not start talking about working schedules. Night Shifts? Weekends? Holidays? Many EA Employees got plenty of these worked.
My brother in law did that job at Activision, ended up a producer there too. Bug fixes are often repaired in later patches. If the game is playable and the bug fix would push back the deadline, well, that bug is gonna stay until the next patch. Yeah, it sucks, yeah, it's greedy af, but the deadline is god. Pushing back a deadline makes people think the game is going to be bad and hurts sales. Patching bugs later is a better bet for them, even if the reason there are bugs is because the management didn't give the programmers and artists anywhere near enough time to make the thing in the first place. There is a reason why there is high turnover at these companies.

Their aspirations are always just tutorials. Imo it's better if they leave those out until they figure out how to make proper aspirations.

lol this is so accurate except its kinda even worse cause Maxis and Will Wright actually made the original Sims games and EA is just taking credit for their genius. Ever since EA took over the quality has steadily been going down, until now here we are with TS4
@Muhammad Robbani Ilham I actually think TS4 was the result of it's rushed transformation from an online game to an actual sequel of TS3, which is why I'm a bit more hopefull about TS5, which is being developed from beginning as a regular TS game. At the end I think the best we will get will be another TS3, a good game with performance issues because EA doesn't care. At worst they realize that they can make money with another version of The Barbies 4, lots for really good CAS and building while the gameplay goes nowhere.

@@WesternZephyr I think it's more of the fact that this pack specifically caters to kaylas playstyle, which is building, where as plumbella actually wants to play the game.
It's so weird when i think about how many games were released since 2014 (when sims 4 was released) and the majority of them managed to fix fucking bugs, updated the game & made it better, or released another part of it... And Sims 4 is still giving us these half-hearted, buggy & lacking expansion packs.... like seriously, what happend to the Sims? :( feels like we're stuck in 2017 with this game
EA and Maxis got away with selling a half-baked game thanks to a significant portion of players unable to play Sims 3, the influx of new players and the world starting to revolve around all kinds of influencers, especially with the game's set target audience (12F). So instead of rectifying the problems properly, quickly wrapping up this iteration, or even canning the studio (last would've been such a typical EA thing), they continued testing the waters... and, well, from a financial standpoint, they sure made the right call, people buy legit anything :')))
people still trowing their money to them...so I don't think they feel the need to change!
This always happens towards the end of the lifecycle of sims games, the bugs just pile up and the fixes are inadequate :( Then they just give up on the previous game when they release the new one.

This is only frustrating thing in sims 4 for me - bugs. If you sacrifice features like open world, colour wheel and all this extras to make game playable- do it. It's honestly too much at this point. My toddlers still mark 3 days in their calendars to eat of high chair.
them sacrificing open world etc to make game playable on laptops and cheaper computers is bullshit, I play witcher 3 on my old cheap laptop, and we all know how huge the game and its open world is
@@carmenq7339 I'm not sure they're comparable because unless I'm wrong the open worlds work differently. In Witcher 3, NPCs have set dialogues and actions that they perform and things render in as you approach them (I think). In The Sims 3, other sims are constantly moving about, travelling between places and interacting with each other, regardless of where your family is in the world.
Which isn't to say that the issue with Sims 3 isn't actually an open world issue, because I trust people that know more about how games work when they say that The Sims 3 was just broken and that open world that runs more smoothly than that should be possible.
@@TheTossedOne Honestly I've seen people say both - that Sims 3 could have run better with open world and that open world just isn't workable for a Sims game. In terms of how EA rushes the devs and issues that break the gameplay are shipped with packs even now with 4 - open world isn't viable. EA doesn't want to spend the money/resources it would take to make an open world Sims game realistic.

Either they stand in front of the fridge and scoff down their food ignoring the dining table right next to them; or they sit together, try to talk to each other, get up, hug, and the sit down in different seats to continue the conversation! You live together, why do you need to get up and hug before eating??
As soon as you mentioned "island paradise" I knew exactly what I needed to know.
I can't believe this is being released tomorrow with all these bugs present in the game. I hope they fix these bugs, because "Dine Out" was glitchy from the start and now it's completely unplayable. This game deserves so much more.
The Eco game screwed up my game so much that until the last patch update it would crash my game
Dine Out works fine for me but it's so hard to make money with restaurants.

Dine Out, oh my. Last time I tried to go for a meal out with my whole family after a wedding, they arrived at a reasonable dinner time and I left at 5am having still had no food.
one thing that got me thinking is, the pack is all about styles and decorating your own way, but they gave us only one style of furniture with it, so what's the point? I know we have different styles in base game but still, is not that diverse.
Yeah, I have to agree. Tbf, we have a lot of design types... if you buy ALL the packs. So... for the full diversity of styles you gots to pay a lot of money.

Yeah, if you just buy this and have the base game, it’s a terrible game pack. Each pack should be able to stand on its own, but it would be difficult to play this for long and not get quickly bored of the one style of furniture and very basic basegame.
At this point I don't even think the packs are about what they say they are in the title. The packs are literally just a "culture" or location's general style. This is Scandinavian (... Or just Ikea), the last kit was Moroccan, we've had mexican/Spanish free updates, snowy escape was Japanese, the California vibes with cas, and the list goes on.
I actually don't mind this so much though.... If you dont like a style, don't get the pack. Since the sims team can't release gameplay packs without bugs, you don't really miss out I guess. 🙄

There aren’t any aspirations for almost all other careers, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to me, especially as there is no skill attached.

Don't blame testing. 9 times out of 10 bugs like this are reported very early by the QA team.
The problem is that the higher ups want money fast and force the content to be released despite it not being finished.
I feel bad about pirating, EXCEPT when it comes to companies like EA. If they won't deliver a finished product on day one, then I'm not paying full price on day one. Bite me.

You mean a tutorial? We don't need more of those.
And we got about 20 traits--functionally, likes and dislikes are traits, as far as the game code is concerned.
Even gameplay-wise, a Sim who likes Art Deco architecture reacts the same way as a Sim who likes green eco footprints, or a Sim who Loves the Outdoors.

I'm a (gay) male and while I can't remember all the cas items if the top of my head they do seem to release more female CAS items which is kinda disappointing. I do play with female sims but most of my sims are male and while I'm not to crazy about CAS/Clothes it's still disappointing.

Remember that meme about how female Sim are always super glammed, with different hairstyles and makeup for every outfits, and then the male Sim only gets t-shirt and jeans? That's the result. People just don't have interests in male clothing because it's not diverse. Plus, the community is majorly female players.

Honestly this has been my thought for a while. The Sims in unlike any other and it’s created this monopoly. If this is what we’ve come to accept from what should be well running company/dev team then why should any company push for more? At this point I’m honestly just waiting for Paralives to come out so EA gets some fire under their asses
Hot take: fashion has been impacted by the pandemic, so a lot of trends from this time last year are continuing. This benefits the Sims team.
(I think partly because shops have stock that wasn't fully utilised, but also people have outfits they haven't felt able to properly wear yet. There's probably a nostalgia argument to be had with Y2K, too.)

Funny enough I have noticed that the fashion trend is leaning towards “comfy” nowadays, meaning jumpers, sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies (all oversized), dad sneakers, etc. I would love to see EA bring a bit more cutesy oversized clothing, because honestly wearing exact fit is low-key outdated
this was the pack that I was most excited for in a while, and when jesse started her video with the build/buy items and how gameplay was actually interesting i was ready to buy the pack. but then she mentioned the bugs, and it instantly and completely bummed me out. what's the point of making a decent pack but having it be unplayable, or having to make your players wait for updates before they can actually play the game?

The glitches are known. Just not deemed necessary to fix. They take MVP (minimal viable product) VERY literally
Because simmers will buy it anyway. Why fix a product when they already have your money? Skip or pirate until the product is worth the price, it's the only way EA will learn.

that's a great point. when it's hard for me to watch because it feels like a lot of negativity on something i was excited about, i should try to remember that jesse's just looking out for the purchaser and giving one side of the story (in order to contrast the other side of the story like EA advertisements)

love how open she is to talk about real issues. I grew up playing the sims and gta and i rmb telling my guy friends at 8 that i play gta but got trashed by them because they didn’t believe a girl can play gta. although i still play variety of games but the sims has always been my safe space and i love how for the most part, our community is so accepting of everyone ❤️
same, while I play a lot of rpg, action, and adventure games I always find myself crawling back to the sims if not for anything se for the community. it's so much safer than arguably any other community and it's much nicer imo
My game at this point is literally unplayable, I can't be excited about a game that is inherently broken, no matter how many packs they try to push......that keep breaking my game more and more.

My game doesn’t start anymore. I have a bunch of CC and Mods. Updated them all. Took a bunch out. Still nothing. I refuse to play vanilla because without like SOL the game is trash. Also I’m an Alpha person. I spent soo much time making me and my friends realistically. Instead of losing that I rather not play anymore at all. I hate that they release so many patches because every pack brings new glitches that I barely got to play anymore even before it now completely crashed
@@melz6625 Couldn't agree more. Then when I think I solved one problem, there's always another that I won't see until a little later. It really sucks, this was a game I was so passionate about and now it feels so hollow and broken. I don't even have the energy to open the game anymore. Not to mention, there's a lot of routing issues, my cc chairs are all broken and, yes they're still in the houses but they're unusable since the last patch and the only fix will delete all the hard work I've put it over the years so I feel you.
@@mikeyv94 This is why I'm glad I put my creative fix in sims 3/2 and TES games. No patches/updates to screw up hours and hours of work, tweaking, modding etc. Sometimes older is better. I wish I could fall in love with TS4 like I did a few years ago, but man... idk wth EA is doing.
@@sommerblume9671 i mean... TES is also a mess. Though at least there, the base games, while all of them have severe issues and are somewhat lacking in different aspects, they're at least playable and enjoyable for a while, and the small patches and updates and ONE OR TWO DLCs (not fucking 20) don't irrevocably break the game (No experience with ESO so I can't speak for that). Plus, even if some parts of the base game objectively suck, there's incredible mod support and compatability for literally everything under the sun, for Skyrim especially. I don't know of any other game I could play with 250-300+ different mods active and have it run fine on my shitty laptop. The community definitely made this game, and while they're also fucking bastards, Bethesda at least seem to acknowledge that much. EA laid the bar on the ground and Bethesda made just the tiniest hop over it, that's about the extent of the praise I'm willing to give.

I honestly have to say that I've had different "versions" in my mind of the Sims 4. I pirate the game and I had a version where there were minimal issues. I redownloaded another version from someone else and suddenly all the glitches was in that game. So I am not sure why this would be but I think there is some people's games who are more glitched. So perhaps Kayla didn't experience any glitches like I didn't for about 3 years. I plan on going back to my old downloader as soon as the new game drops in her version for downloading. Hopefully then my stupid sims will stop cooking and drinking water.

They did. I guarantee they knew about these bugs. Someone that used to do QA for EA talked about their process with things and if a bug isn't 100% repeatable they don't care enough to have the dev team fix it cuz $$$.
@@moonlitxangel5771 As someone who works in software development, that's pretty standard though... If a bug isn't reproducible then it's almost impossible to find out what exactly went wrong and therefore how to fix it.
What probably happened here is that EA knows about the bugs but released the pack anyway because they knew people would buy it regardless. And then they'll fix the bugs in later patches.
The build buy is literally Sims 4: Ikea Stuff.

it seems like the pack is great, its sounds like its only the career that is janky - which is obviously bad as its the focus of the pack - however as a console player, the amount of build buy/CAS is great and the career is optional sooooooo

🤦 This is why EA keeps releasing half backed packs, it's ok to like things if they're well done. But to lose focus on the low quality of what they're selling us just because it's pretty, shiny and new, proves that no matter how terrible their products are; simmers like you always find way to justify the undefendable. And that attitude affects us all, just because you're a builder doesn't mean you can dismiss the game breaking bugs that affect others. It's like PC players dismissing console players problems, just because they don't have the same issues and everyone has the option to play on PC instead of consoles.

@@onflux4787 if i was to actually get this pact, it would be my fourth pack, i despise what EA has put out recently as they are just blatent cash grabs, but us console players dont have the luxury of CC. And plus not everyone has access to a pc/laptop or have a pc/laptop, but simply cant download it due to some software glitches. Also people might have bought everything on the console edition so transferring it to a different platform would cost a lot.

When Cyberpunk 2077 released with a ton of bugs, it got absolutely dragged and the devs apologized and promised to work hard and fix them. Meanwhile nearly every Sims pack comes with bugs that don't get fixed for months, if ever, and people expect us to just shrug and deal with it because "that's just how it is." It feels like EA takes advantage of how forgiving and lenient the sims community is.

Yeah I'm definitely getting tired of midcentury. I love that style irl, but I feel like that's all we get in sims lately is midcentury ikea. I'll probably still buy the pack, but I'm annoyed at the lack of variety.
That's one of the reasons I like it. It looks like stuff you can actually buy. A lot of the older content (and base game) looked like either very old fashioned stuff even your granny wouldn't want or weird designer to the rich & famous style that looks fine in a magazine spread but doesn't look like someone actually lives with it in their house.
But then I was happy having just Sims 2 and the IKEA stuff pack for years, so maybe its just that I like having realistically available furniture options for the regular person/sim.

oh my god i'm literally so sick of EA including about 3 items for male sims. i prefer playing male sims and all the options for them are so awful
i play female sims a lot but everytime i decide to play a male sim/have female sim have boyfriend i decide against it bc the cas is disappointing
I just spend several hours trying really weird stuff to make my male sims look good, and it takes like 5 secs to make my female sims look amazing lol.
Right? All my male sims have basically the same outfits because there's so little for them that even looks good. Even CC is much less common for male sims, you really have to dig to find good pieces for them

I'm not excited for this pack anymore, I'm kinda disapointed again, it has nothing to do with this game pack, it has to do with me realizing a few things. I recently played sims 2 again because I was bored is I decided to go on and play it. It didn't take me long to make my sims couple and they had a dog, they moved into an apartment and one of them opened a buisness while the other was a dance instructor. I realized after a while that I was having a good time playing the actual game my sim ended up proposing and now their fiance's. My problem is in the sims 4 I rarely play the game because the game doesn't interest me as much. Instead I spend all my time in cas and build trying to create a story, and when I did get in to play my heart's not in the game anymore.
I’d have preferred for this to be made into an expansion pack, with multiple styles of building each developed well and a new world with each neighbourhood being a unique style to renovate. The lack of aspirations and different styles makes it seem a bit half hearted here
Agreed. I don't even think it's worth the title of "game pack". I personally don't count a career as new gameplay which is one of the cornerstones of a game pack. This imo is what Sims 4 stuff packs should look like (sans glitches but it's EA so what do you expect)

Other game packs even came with new (though smaller) worlds. This could have had a new world with like derelict / broken down houses to renovate. Definitely at least an aspiration and new traits......
@@BigKicksMix Definitely. I won't blame the team as they've clearly been allocated minimal resources and time but it's such a shame because the pack had such scope for it and these were unachieved. A world with derelict houses would have A: given more representation to people who aren't from upper-middle class backgrounds and B: made the pack more fun
@@moonlitxangel5771 for sure. they have the framework for the career already and build items can be replicated by CC creators so there's nothing hugely new here, only more bugs
I love your reviews. I don't always agree with you (on the non-bug things), but I appreciate that you don't sugarcoat what you don't like or what doesn't work for you.
my question is with this gp: How is the replayability? After decorating someone's home, does it restart? Because lack of open world and an intuitive world, it seems it doesn't mean anything..d'you know what I mean? It feels surface level. You only have so many townies to replay.
Another thing I noted: Townies don't have likes and dislikes, so they become revealed at random when you pick them as a client, thus making it not even match the townie. For example if you have a townie who is Vlad a vamp and is a clear goth, but then does he have a random like of 'loves the sun'.....

The difference is that Kayla did not have any bug issues while playing this pack until yesterday when she live-streamed the game. And even then she had bugs in one game save that didn't pop up in her other save. She continued to play in the save with no bugs and then bugs popped up in the other save as well.
I get why. Jesse’s play style is more turned towards gameplay. Kayla is very much a build fiend.
The sims 4 really does just take old expansion packs from 2 and 3 and chop them up into smaller packs for the sims 4

Well I wish I could say I'm surprised but I'm not. I'm not even getting my hopes up for the expansion pack or anything they announced for that matter. I mean the live stream itself was a dumpster fire, the game was so laggy it was embarrassing and at one point they deleted buffs because they didn't get the Sim in the emotion they wanted. Sad...

I wasn't too shocked as I'd read a blog post by one of the game changers on tumblr which said that due to the issues they had they didn't manage to successfully complete any jobs over the course of the 4 days they had to play it in early access. They kept earning nothing & getting complaints which gave them fewer & fewer jobs to do. The only way they found to successfully advance was to select "send alone" which sent the sim away for 12hrs and they came back with a promotion. So it was basically if you want to actually play the career yourself, good luck. If you want to make it a rabbit hole career, you'll excel! 🙃
Annoying thing is I still want the furniture... guess I'll just wait till it goes on sale on cd keys.
So about how a home decorator pack done like this only really makes sense if you have a lot of different styles furniture - from other packs... it's almost like they want to make you buy even more packs to get more furniture 🤔 almost like this is just another catalyst to try and sell packs in general and grab fans' cash.
I am going to absolutely love this pack. I love building and I wanted to have more items to use in my build and the fact that there are more bunk beds make me so happy.
I was considering buying but now hearing that it's got lots of bugs I am definitely waiting for them to be solved (and a sale) before I buy this pack.

@@zkw100 yeah I have eco lifestyle the worst thing is I don’t love the CAS items or the build and buy mode pieces from the pack I brought it solely for the gameplay. And the gameplay is pretty intuitive...when it works
I’m bummed it’s so buggy 😔 I don’t mind the “toddler tent” being so bug though bc I think that it’s supposed to be functional for kids too like the rocking chairs and dollhouses...which the dollhouses also take up SOOO much space, but I like the gameplay options they offer, and what they previewed with the tent looks like something I’d enjoy 🤷🏽♀️
😬 I like the tend, but only 4 color swatches! Really? Color swatches are the easiest and cheapest thing to do, like they didn't even tried.
you can shrink the dollhouses down and they work as normal with bb.moveobjects xx :)
My niece used to have a play tent that was around that size so it's actually a pretty realistic size imo. Those things are big so that kids and toddlers of all ages can play with them irl
I mean they could make this a floor interaction for all toddlers and it would have the same end result without needing a giant tent nobody can fit in their homes. I know play tents are a thing IRL, but how many times do we have to tell Maxis we don't want giant objects?

I wish they'd make a Game Pack that focuses on Fashion Design! Where you can ACTUALLY choose a Template for the Garment and choose fabric AND colors! And you NEED to Sew the Garment, either by hand or Machine. That would keep me HOOKED to Sims 4!

So I know im a year late to this, but i only found your channel recently, and im loving it by the way!
I bought this pack several months ago and well... ofc its still a shiddy buggy glitchy mess. I love the build&buy mode stuff, the furniture is really my style and i use the modular couches and shelves all the time. Youll enjoy the first 10ish days of gameplay, then it gets rough. Client doesnt show up, client has contradicting likes&dislikes, client dislikes your build for no reason, client bugs through a wall into the air outside of the house (and you cant talk to them), the counter for how large an added room can be just doesnt work as a baseline and you have to count yourself or the client will be mad, you wont see some requirements until you enter build mode (like which floor the renovation should be on, you have to enter build mode then exit again to take pictures of the correct area), you get the gig of adding a floor to a 3-story house so thats not gonna work, you get the gig of renovating a floor but build mode blocks you from building in all available floors, youre asked to add floors you already added in past gigs, ....
Probably not even an exhaustive list of the bugs i experienced in maybe 50 hours of gameplay? I love other parts of the pack, and the job gameplay could be lovely. One time i would keep accepting gigs at a neighbors house and kept redesigning their house after my taste, room for room. but that was because their likes were the colors white and green and modern furniture styles. other households would just tell me they liked fishing and art and then refuse to elaborate. Thats not a challenge, now theres just a fishbowl in every room i renovated at theirs.
There was so much potential there, but it was bittersweet and kind of a letdown.

Yes I completely agree with the furniture style. It’s been repeated in so many packs it’s like the design team doesn’t know any other designs. Modern furniture would have been nice
Its full of modern style. I mean mid century modern in particular, but modern style is a historic style. This pack is kinda an amalgamation of contemporary and modern since there is a twist on the mid century modern which makes it more like what is available in stores now. "Modern" as a style also includes art deco. Contemporary = stuff available now. Modern = older style from specific eras.

It's a shame that bugs and glitches are commonplace in newly released packs. LOL!... I appreciate your honesty. This is EXACTLY why I wait a few months till I buy any pack. I wish that they playtested/troubleshot their packs more. Doing so would make their buyers not question their pack's purchase value. I really want to buy this pack, but won't purchase it till its major issues are fixed.

The big takeaway I get from this pack is how great modular building is for the Sims. I love the new sectional and shelving pieces and would love it if almost all the furniture items (as in basic stuff like tables, shelves, beds, nightstands, showers/baths, etc.) Were all modular and you could snap to build and maybe save something as a pre build if you liked it (kind of like the blueprint system but on a smaller scale).
I havent even watched the video but my heart sank when I read the title, I honestly trust you a million times for than ea x
i hate how focused ea is on build and buy mode. like have they forgotten that live mode is the whole point of the game or
honestly, and i hate how some simmers try to excuse it because the building is good, but what good is a beautiful house if you can’t play in it because the game is so buggy?
The one thing that really upset me is that we get what feels like 100 new beds but not a single toddler bed that fits in with this style. I had hoped we would get at least one.
As for bugs, the number really is annoying and it feels like testing is lacking. I know this is a place where people try to safe money but fixing bugs and loss of reputation feels more costly to me. I can only explain this with massive scheduling issues. After so many years I would hope that they have figured out their timelines to release quality content but it feels like everything they release is rushed and therefore broken. Testing only really helps when you still have enough time to fix your issues.
