I was a French horn player in the Pops in this performance. (Good view of the back of my head at 0:38! The view you see of John at the beginning was my view.) Quite a spectacle. What most people do not know is that ABC actually recorded another complete performance on July 2 because the powers that be were concerned about bad weather on July 4. As it was, it was very windy, as you can see. Fireworks display that night was amazing.

I was one of the trumpet players in the All-American Liberty Band standing directly in front of him. One of the greatest experiences of my life!

You had nearly a half a million at Liberty State Park in New Jersey and countless millions in the harbor and over a billion watching around the world. Mom, Dad, the whole family and I were watching this in Marshfield. I tried to make an audio copy off of the radio, but it was screwy at best.

Amazing video. Saw it before I came to America for the first time and it still holds up- the majesty of the country, all its potential, is laid out here. Glorious. John Williams is a national treasure. (Love the sweeping shot at 3:06 which includes the Twin Towers, which I unfortunately never got to see!) Thank you for this video!!

What an extravagant event that was! I just wish I could have been there for that one! I would have came away without a voice for sure!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Williams! Thank you for all of the music that you composed within your lifetime, and that you continue even into this very day. You have written the music for not only my mother's childhood, but my little sister's childhood. Even if you are gone by the time I have children of my own, you will have still written the music of their childhoods as well. You really speak to us and unite us, and have put so much good into this world. Rarely does a day go by when I don't appreciate the gift that you are!

It was a great idea to have Lower Manhattan as the ABC News backdrop. As the Soviet Union began to fall, many saw the World Trade Center as the new symbol of the American Dream.

Not a 'song'; it's an orchestral work.

I'm working on a book set on Governors Island during Liberty Weekend. Do you know what time this live performance happened? Thanks, in advance!

In 2019 when Trump wanted to celebrate the 4th of July with a bit of fanfare, I wish he had done it this way, instead of the Soviet and/or CCP (Chinese Communist party) style tank and troops parade on Pennsylvania avenue. This one is more American than the one he wanted.

Today the sight of Revolutionary War soldiers would be enough to to drive woksters into a frenzy and demand cancelation of this concert.
