Not sure if it was an MX11 I drove but it was 445 HP backed with an 18 speed. Grossing only 71,320 lbs I had to shift all 18 gears just to get it rolling. Most underpowered engine I've ever felt in my life. Oh and the engine brake was basically non-existent. It felt so good to be back in my C15
My new Spierings SK597 mobile tower crane has a Paccar MX11 320kw in it. Must say i'm impressed. It has a 12 speed ZF automatic transmission. Weights 105,000 pounds or 48 metric tons. Because of the wide power band and quick spooling turbo it feels quite nimble. For a crane it is actually pretty quick. It does slow down on hills on the freeway but it rarely shifts down, once it gets to 1500rpm it just holds it there. In this application it almost always pulls on full load. Also drives a hydraulic pump for the outriggers and hydraulic suspension. Been operating various mobile tower cranes for 12 years now. The DAF/Paccar engines were always very reliable. The only breakdown i had with them was a 2000 euro 2 12,6L 460hp DAF engine in an old SK598 AT5. It pulled 132,000pounds (60 metric tons) of weight day in day out, then on the job site had to run the pto @ 1300 rpm all day in dusty job site conditions to power the Crane. When finally after 18 years of hard work one camlobe gave way and a roller broke and had a flat side on it. The engine still ran and started! We towed it back to the shop, engine idling for power steering on all axles. rebuild the head, put a new camshaft in it and it was good to go and it still runs today. Amazing how tough they are.
I've been working on this engine since it was released in Europe ,lke any product it has had 1 or 2 teething problems ,but generally it has been reliable ..It is also very quiet engine I have noticed compared to any other engine
i drive a 2014 daf cf with this engine, with about 440hp. it is a very smooth engine with more than enough power for the work i do,the engne is very quiet, the engine break is very good, and it has good fuel efficiency, well over 9 miles per gallon. we cannot o over 55 miles per hour though. there are some issues with the reliabilty of this engine, because it is a brand new designed one. different drivers told me different stories. where one goes great, the other has technical issues, from simple issues to very expensive and time consuming problems deep in the engine. myself included. the truck keeps using oil, about a gallon every 12,500 miles, although it has about 75,000 miles on it now. they cannot seem to find the cause of it, so for now it keeps using oil. it also has a weird whistling noise between 1200 and 1500 rpm while accelerating and going uphill when the engine is at operating temerature. i still love the paccar engines, the old 13 liter mx engine in my old truck got me trough 600,000 reliable miles.
+konic40 because the engine is a brand new design from the ground up, you usually have some ''child'' problems with it as we call it. because lots of part are brand new and when in use daily there might be some problems that pop up that did not during the testing fase.
+konic40 if you wait a year or so most issues are usually gone. but because of the emission regulation you sometimes have to buy a new one to get into sertain areas or cities.
Paccar is a truck manufacturer witch used external engines like CAT, Cummins and Detroit Diesel. After taken DAF trucks Paccar is to have its (own) engine. The fact is that the Paccar engine is in fact a DAF engine, design and manufacturer. The most of all Euro truck manufacturers produces there own engines, Paccar don't.
+westernkyrail Based on the information we got from Kenworth, the transmission was the FO-16E308LL-VCS, a vocational version of the UltraShift PLUS line. It has a final drive ration of 0.74:1 with a overall 19.68:1. The ratio of the drive axles was 4.11:1. Hope that helps and thanks for the question.
The 13 litres are junk! My company won't buy them anymore. When they did the trucks spent more time in the shop than they did on the road. I hope this engine is better.
I'm a Kenworth Tech and the Mx 13 does not like to be detuned they tend to produce more carbon at lower horsepower rating at 500hp we see a lot less sensor and emission related issue then trucks that come from larger fleets that have them turned down for fuel economy... When actually if they left them at 500hp they have would less problems and better fuel milage
SANDEEP SANGHA I'd have to disagree with you on that. My Paccar engine has not been the shop. Only had 2 software updates and the truck's 3 years old. So far so good as far as it goes for me.

+dutchWOtrans why would a new engine have technical issues if the company has years of experience? did they forget something?

lol so basically u should never buy first gen

Love my 13 liter engine! No problems as of yet.
funny things, and logical taking in mind that the Paccar engines are designed and maded by cummins, the Mx13 is a X12 with aditional 12mm of stroke.
Nope, Paccar utilizes Cummin's aftertreatment and turbo, everything else is Paccar.
Fact..Paccar engine is an DAF engine! Design and made in Eindhoven-Netherlands
Fact. Paccar engine is a Paccar product which owns DAF. not a DAF engine. DAF did not engineer the engine it was just used in their trucks

Achates Power is testing its 10.8L OP2S engine that's 450 HP and 1750 torque with better fuel economy.
Excellent engine for garbage trucks& dump trucks
Nice
how was the truck geared to deal with the weight?

Jim Park
The rear drive gear ratio in most trucks that have automatic or automated transmissions seems to be the most popular ratio that I've seen.
Esa compañía es excelente pero no traen y promocionan esa calidad de motores en Colombia 😢
In india, that much load is pulled by 230 hp engines.......
Cummins isbe 5.9

Ours were as well, though for some reason the two 500HP rated trucks suffered less issues than the 485's doing the same work.

Adam Findlay any other problems that you know of?
Junk engine too Manny problem , do not buy it , you will be in shop more than you will be on road .
