We would watch you peeling apples :) Because you have our friendship. It's nice to be included in your life, and to meet your friends. Thank you for taking us along!
"Kick sledding"!! In Sweden, we use those on a daily basis, in the winter time, to get around on snowpacked and icy roads. Lots of fun! Us kids used to get mad when the sand truck would put sand on the roads, so we went out with brooms, sweeping the sand away!
I really love the fact that you are thinking about taking 'us' with you on a personal and social gathering. This is one of the reasons you have such a great following on social media, thanks Shawn!
In Sweden we call them "spark", means kicks. We mostly use them on ice and sidewalks that are not sanded. I used to go groseryshopping for my mum with the spark, and I had it with me when going iceskating. I could dit on when shanging from shoes to skates. Dont know if I spell the words right. Hope you understand. Love your videos and your wild, wonderful country.
Nice Potkukelkka (that Kicksled). I thought that was only a Finnish thing. When i was a kid, potkukelkka was the main transportation to visit neighbors in the winter.
8:08 Shawn looking like the Legendary Steve Smith (Red Green) in that outfit! Grew up watching Red Green be handy and "fix" things. Now I have Shawn to watch fix and build! :D
I've got an old bucksaw just like yours, it hangs on the wall of my garage and cuts blown down limbs and branches into manageable size for me to haul home for my firepit! Nice to see you taking a break and spending time with your friends - "All work and no play", etc. - As always, stay safe.
Hello from Western North Carolina. It's nice that you have sunshine with that snow. Seems like for weeks now all we have had is rain and grey clouds. I am looking forward to Spring time. I enjoyed this video.
Family and friends are a parts of a great life. I reconnected with my best man after 20 year living 350 miles apart. Now only 45 min away I see him at least once a week. Keep up with the posts Shawn they are great.
Childhood friends are the best. They know the in and out of us better than our folks. It's always great to have them around and go back to the memory lane and share few laughs over our sillyness and fun times. I have my childhood best pals of 35 years as well. We call each other always and meet on frequent occasions. Your beard is turning out so great. I like it.
Ooo I want to go kicksleding. Such fun Shawn. You really are such an inspirational man. You actually managed to me me off my lazy butt and things. Tomorrow I am collecting some wood off cuts in the garden and make a coat peg hanger. And as I have a wood burning tool, I am going to do some art on it. Thanks so much. Hugs for Calixx
For me living in Sweden, it is kind of rare to ever see someone walking with snowshoes as it seems more natural and common in Canada. Here we rather are doing back-country skiing or cross country skiing, and not much snowshoeing almost ever. But we also like to do nordic skating or touring skating with special metal skating on newly frozen sea ice and river ice and the lake ice. With much snow falling on the lakes, you will find kind of "roads" on ice is done with plowing machines ( plough ) so you can ice skating even during the snow-rich winter days! We also use kick sleds in Sweden as you do in the video! Very nice also for older people who need some more support during the icy winter roads, if living in the countryside with no grit added on the roads! Thanks for taking us with you on this special day in Canada! You seem to have much fun, and friends from our childhood is a true gift to value! ATB!
Great video Shawn. You looked really comfortable on that sled. Maybe not a kick sled were you are, but hey, dogs. Goodbye new snowmobile, hello dogsled.
It was nice to see some of your friends and family. I do enjoy watching the activities at the cabin. I live vicariously through them. I am handicapped with MS and RA. I was in medicine working with patients on ventilators. But my choice of activities involved hiking down rivers that were dry, fishing etc. So that’s where you come in... I can’t do it so I watch you do it.
Thank you so much Shawn, your winter wonderland is harsh but beautiful, I would love to experience it. Been working outside in a T-shirt today, sweating, high 20's, not normal for the time of year, but hey, at least it's not raining.
Shawn, that was an enjoyable video, seeing you intermingle with your friends. It gives another vision of your life aside from the remoteness of the forest. However I enjoy you doing the things that are your passions, and the unbelievable challenges you tackle. Your knowledge and talents are remarkable. Thanks for letting us share that part of you. God bless you and your family - oh, and Cali too.
I Do So Enjoy these types of Vids as well Shawn, I guess the reason so is because it ties thoughts together in being able to enjoy the full personable stage presented and leds to continuity of your Story. Its like completing a Recipe without leaving out a prime ingredient or two, A good balance that's both Enjoyable & Appreciated! As Always my friend, Blessings from Oregon Pal! ... Mike.
Really respect your choice of privacy for your family and friends. I don't need to see them I get that you are sharing good times with them. Enjoy all your content. Thanks for sharing.
I enjoy this video and I like that you include us in some of the normal day to day things of life up there in Canada. We have had heavy snows over here in the Yosemite area so seeing the snow at your cabin I can relate. Keep up the great videos and thank you
Nice to see that those Finnish sleds have made their way to canada. Pretty common sight in rural Finland. Anyway, its allways nice too old friends after some time and catch up. Beautiful sights.
It’s referring to see a muttered man who has his priorities straight. I was married to one for over 21 yers and he never grew up. I really like your channel . 💜 Lisa from ~~ NC USA
Elizabeth L. Johnson said, You know, I enjoyed watching you with your friends. So glad you got out and were in community with others. I, too, love to be by myself. God bless.
I hope you're steering that cold weather East of me, lol. Isn't that just the way friendships move along. Family and work always came first in our lives. If a guy works 70+ hrs/wk it just allows enough time to not become forgotten. Keep up the building spirit, it's amazing that you could accomplish what you have through the Canadian Winter. Looking forward to the workshop and other structures in the future.
I liked this video. It's always nice to be included in parts of your life that have wonderful meaning for you. The scenery was especially beautiful and I learned what the sled is used for and why.
very nice video Shawn . Personally I love to see the lives of the people behind the camera . The human element is what makes it real for me . your diverse content in the 2 channel concept , I believe is working for you . Be safe ...
Shawn: Pleasant video. Your like a brother to me and wish you well as we climb out of this winter doldrum. You are so talented smart. Keep doing what you are and keep us guessing all the time. Timmer c
Hoje a temperatura esta muito baixa, muita neve e o frio está bastante intenso nada fácil para Jemes continuar seu trabalho de construir o desejado cuarto de sauna e os planos mudam para ir de passeio ao encontro de seus velhos e bons amigos.
The kicksled is literally a translation of the Norwegian 'sparkstøtting', a common way of transport in the old days. Many used them to get groceries, visit the neighbor, go to school or work , but bcs of our 'modern way' of life with road salting/sanding and warmer weather I have now 3 of them collecting dust in the barn (or maybe Im getting too old and comfortable). Anyways, maybe I should send some to Canada?
I recently got to visit my old fishing buddy that I’ve known since middle school. Sounds like you had a good time. It’s neat to see friends And family after long breaks in time. It’s also a reminder of how time flies.
Be careful out there. Your videos are always so interesting to watch and so full of inspiration and always a few humorous notes. Love watching you and Cali grow.🌞
Yes, it's amazing how time passes... nice you all could catch up 👌 now the children are grown... future family get togethers may be possible! It really is all about the relationships we have with people in the end 😃👋🌏
I enjoy these types of videos you put out on occasion, its a nice mix, and wow Shawn that camera is amazing, the clarity is brilliant, take care, stay warm and be safe :)
@Shawn James It can be funny in life how things go.one of my early friends names was also Daryl, and we were together from 2nd grade up to 8th grade before my family had to move away. but we lived in the tri-state area of New York so no major snow and winters generally like for you in Canada.still we had our fun and i know in general what it is like having a long term friend.
That was very enjoyable. The sleds were really cool. I also like how you explained how to support an extended overhang beam by also having the log below a little longer. Very helpful. Thank you.
Love kick sleds for ice fishing, dog sledding (w/one dog) and inspiring next generation for mushing... especially like the sleds that fold flat for ease of transport.
You are living my dream. I’m a bit too old for what you are doing, and I’m also a DAV, but you give me the spirit to get out in my RV and go camping. Not the adventures I use to have, but good adventures nonetheless. Thanks for the motivation.
That "sled" is a kicksled en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kicksled or a "Spark" or "sparkstøtting" as its called here in Scandinavia. Its a very common item in Norway, Sweden and Finland and its nice to use to transport people at short distances when the conditions are right.

I enjoyed this very much. It's nice to see what make "Shawn" tick per say. Life long friends are precious you never have a lot of them. Great video.

I love February sunshine! 2 months past the winter solstice makes such a difference then add in the reflection from the snow.
That was fun to go along on a family & friend trip!! Sure, I watch more videos like this but with Cali included, please!!
That kicksled looks like a lot of fun. Rig a harness to it and Callie and you would make one heck of a sled team ,,,, thanks for the take along.

It’s always nice to have good friends
Thanks for taking us along with you on your visit to see and childhood friend and spend some fun time snow sledding on the frozen lake !
I love seeing you and joe and scrambled get together.
Enjoyed that. Good to see all facets, and to know how different periods created My Self Reliance. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
All my school years as a child I used a kicksled going to school etc. Loved it.
Back when we had solid white winters.
Nice to see that those Finnish sleds have made their way to canada. Pretty common sight in rural Finland. Anyway, its allways nice too old friends after some time and catch up. Beautiful sights.
Shawn, Joe, and Scrambled O all giving us a video today! Much appreciated Shawn. Keep up your awesome work!

It was fun to see this video and I know you needed a break from working with the frozen materials. Thanks as always for the stress reliever.

Great video, wonderful wedding photo, & your friend is beautiful!
Loved it. So wish we lived there. I live in Georgia, home of humidity and bugs.
I recently got to visit my old fishing buddy that I’ve known since middle school. Sounds like you had a good time. It’s neat to see friends

i like these types of videos wished we had seen more of you sledding on the kick sleds.
Be careful out there. Your videos are always so interesting to watch and so full of inspiration and always a few humorous notes. Love watching you and Cali grow.🌞
They're called kicksleds :) Pretty common sight around scandinavia once the roads freeze.
For some reason they are calles Finnish sleights here, in Estonia :) but yeah, pretty common in this part of Europe
Awwww lovely video and great to see you with your childhood friends. Wonderful having children but great to now be able to do adult things.
Yes, it's amazing how time passes... nice you all could catch up 👌 now the children are grown... future family get togethers may be possible! It really is all about the relationships we have with people in the end 😃👋🌏

Nice video again Shawn. Thank you. 👍😁
