BETTER THAN POSCA? | Trying Sakura Permapaque Paint Markers

  • Do POSCA pens have competition? Sakura's Permapaque paint markers are a good introduction to paint pens if you want to give them a try. They're cheaper and much easier to use! POSCA does have more variety in both color and size... at the end of the day I think it just depends on personal preference and what you intend to use them for!

    One big difference that I’m seeing which Kasey didn’t mention is that Poscas look pretty solid when used for big patches. But these Sakura ones remind me a bit of the markers I used as a kid in how you can clearly still see the streaks and also the darker looking overlap in those streaks

    • @thesparklingfern1488
      @thesparklingfern1488 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      i feel like streakiness comes with it own vibes. Sometimes the texture is really nice to have on a picture, but sometimes you don't want it there. Its something to consider at least

    • @tanwencooper6928
      @tanwencooper6928 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      To be fair, my poscas do that same streaking if I use fine tipped markers to fill in a large area too. I almost always have to do a second layer to even them out.

    • @marjoleinvanderaa2317
      @marjoleinvanderaa2317 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@tanwencooper6928 Fair enough. And I guess streakiness could also be considered to be a nice texture in some cases. But in my case at least Poscas are more consistent in color. So if you overlap ink, the area with twice the amount of ink doesn’t get darker, just more opaque. ‘Cuz in the example with the sakura markers, you can clearly see where the edges of two separately colored areas overlap ‘cuz it looks that much darker. That’s my biggest peeve in all this. It creates an actual change in value, not just in opaqueness

    You don't have to pump Posca pens; just depress the tip once and hold it. Just be mindful and ready to release it when the paint starts flowing or you will end up with a blob of paint. It saves your marker tips and it's much faster.

      Yeah it feels like it's almost a lil bit for dramatic effect sometimes, or maybe the first person who made a video did it for dramatic effect and everybody else has been following suit.
      I think you have to visualize the inside of the marker and the way that the paint would flow and the connections that are being made. And maybe understand a lil bit about the physics of fluids.
      I find the shaking is a lil more important than the pumping. Like you shake, pump once or twice and if you start to get a little bit of paint showing up on at the top of the nib. You can shake it to the point that the nib then gets full and you don't have to keep pumping till it's at the end of the nib.

    You can just hold the pen down and wait for the paint to soak the tip, no need to pump and destroy the nib. It even soaks the nib quicker.

    I ended up with a pack of metallic permapaques because they were on very heavy discount at my local art store. And they're... Bad. Granted, it may be because they're old (they were probably sitting in the store for a long while, hence the discount) but they are squeaky, streaky, and run out really, REALLY fast. We're talking "can't even complete an illustration with them" fast. Also, I find my white posca needs an almost ridiculous amount of shaking to come out opaque, but when it finally gets there, it is OPAQUE. Definitely sticking with my poscas, despite the price tag. EDIT: I've also never had an issue with poscas eating my 300gsm watercolour paper, but the paper does tend to curl. Giving the back of the paper a spritz of water and then sandwiching between two books for a while fixes it pretty well.

    I bought a pack of cheap paint brush markers on Amazon, which have the brush nib and a fine point on the other end. They're honestly way better than Poscas, I get very little streaking and no need to prime them either. Plus they don't eat the paper very much because the brush nib is softer. I love them. I was going to get the Arrtex brush paint markers but they were a little pricey so I found a cheaper alternative and they're fantastic. They have about 40 colours including a metallic silver and gold.

      @@DreamiMusho I think this works out better if you do need more than 48 colours then you can buy odd open stock poscas or something like that to add to the range. How were you able to identify that as specifically Ham? Do tomcats meow lower-pitched than queencats?
