    I purchased from Mike, your modded version of the 301, shortly after discovering you via watching Mike demonstrate it on TH-cam earlier this year. Ironically, this was less than four months after buying a new stock 301. This gave me the rare opportunity to A/B test two identical models. Having said this, my thoughts mirror a previous comment in this thread. I could care less about the warranty given the result of what I’m hearing from the modification…which leads me to the desire to upgrade to your “I” series as soon as I can. I certainly appreciate your approach to your design philosophy and appreciate your talent, openness and honesty. Many thanks for this.

      @@brianyee5504 For a relatively entry level equipment, I would not hesitate to do improvement and not worry about warranty. However, I have had refused to modify expensive piece of equipment for two reasons. First, it will affect resale value especially a lot of people are buying the brand name and not the sound quality. Second, they can sell the piece in the used market and get enough money to buy a new one from me for better quality. In many cases, with spare changes. A lot of the expensive audio equipment are just name, hype and marketing. Nothing to do with improved sound quality.
      Recently, there is a 65,000.00 euro pair of white speaker cable showing up on Facebook. Saying I have no interest in those object is I am being polite. More so of the people who making money from them.

    Thank you for this video. I’ve been extremely pleased with my 801 Modification. For anyone who is interested in a Yamaha Mod, I can say that I’ve been very pleased with the service from Mike at Absolute Sound and the work AG has done. My 801, to me, sounds better than my AS1200 when playing on my Heresy and 600M speakers. I drove over to Chatham from Detroit and it was totally worth the trip.

      701 and 801 get (6) brown caps. 301 and 501 get (4) plus a IEC inlet replacing the attached power cord.
      Good to hear you are happy with the upgrade.

    I’ve seen a few new Yamaha units turn up on Marketplace for $20 , because they were cutting off after being turned on . I thought that issue was major & chose not to buy them .
    I need to reconnect with family in Toronto & come check you guys out . I might be broke after leaving , but smiling all the way home . 😅

      Those don't sound like major issue. Reset the logic brain may just be the ticket. However, they are not going to tell you that because any manufacture wants to sell more new boxes.
      A few months ago someone ask me his Onkyo receiver was acting up. I didn't know what to tell him but told him if it still playing, the analog parts should be ok. Then he went online finding an Onkyo group. Someone said press these four buttons on the front panel together and hold for 5 or 10 seconds to reset the brain. After he has done that, the unit ran perfectly.

      105C is better but not always necessary. As long as there are enough safety margin, 85C would work ok.

    To hell with the warranty, your work would effect the resale (likely triple the value), and that cover is absolutely beautiful. Mike is so smart and nice, still have my AS501 packaged. Your work, genius, and artistry has little to no comparison in all the World.

    hello Angela-gilbert .........I use silicon for two decades to fix/damping capacitors and other components such as wiring without any degration , just like you told it .
    However when upgrading so much extra capacitance on the power supply , is there no problem stressing the diodes and the transformer ?
    Merry Christmass to you and your friends .

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Oh yeah, rectifier diodes blow up if there is not soft start built in. The bigger the capacitance, the long and stronger the soft start is required.
      Good to know someone else is using silicone for this long period of time with good result.

    Yamaha NS-5000 speakers need a minimum 200-600 watts at 4 ohms which none of their amps can do. Frustrating.

    • @angela-gilbert
      @angela-gilbert  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Have you try anything with 100 watt on the NS5000 yet? Anything for home use require that much power isn't a very good design. The manufacture or use saying this may have just want to impress the potential buyers.

      @@angela-gilbert and then there is "100 watts" and there's 100 watts.
      All i mean is some amps that claim 100w don't seem to have the power of some other amps rated 100w.

    • @angela-gilbert

      @jasonwebb6484 It is going to need 3 to 5 seasons of 10 to 15 episodes per season to touch the surface. This question has been around since day minus one. But tok many still so not have a clue. I blame the marketing who ran but people for short term profit moving boxes and never care about sending the right info out to the public. They are afraid once the public is smart enough, they cannot fool them with their new and improved marketing boo crap.
