The Blue tractor following behind belonged to Frank Marchello, what a great guy he was, I grew up in the same town and went to school with his two sons. Once I was old enough and got my CDL I went to work for him driving a dump truck. He had one of the biggest dump truck companies in NJ. Construction companies used to tell us all the time when they wanted the best they called Frank.
I hauled coal off road for 9 years I always drove a mack rd 800 tandem learned on a r model tractor trailer hauled with a lot KWs and internationals and when they was in the shop for a week or 2 the jacks was still getting the job done. Mack fan forever
That red and black has become my favorite color scheme for an R Model. If I ever get one to restore thats how I will paint it. With the red pinstripe on the fender edge and black on the hood.
r models are some of the most iconic macks, when i think mack i think of them...theres a concrete company around here that still runs a bunch of DM mixers and dumps...
Does anyone remember SRT, Morrisville Pa? Owner/Operater, my pop hauled steel back in the day. Cut my teeth on a '59 B Model. Later he bought the R-600 Maxidyne. He loved that truck.
I drove an R model Mack for a few years, put gobs of miles on it, and never had one problem. My only wish was that they would have used more sound insulation in them. They were kinda loud.
to me mack trucks are top of the line. the funny car team I drove for had a beautiful condo Globe liner. v12 Detroit quad turbo 7 speed trans two speed rear ends. one fast bull dog. 😀 I loved that mack
We had a lot of Superliners in Australia, but just about every one of them had the E9 V8. There's still a lot of them getting around working and they get good money when you want to sell them.
gm16v149, I noticed the prevalence of E9s in Australia from watching TH-cam videos. I find it interestinging since that's an engine prone to overheating and your climate isn't exactly cool and comfy in the summer. You boys must take care of them very well.
These videos drive me crazy, they show all these old trucks, and they don't even crack the hood open, much less tell you what's under the hood. Obviously the R model is running an E-6, but the Super Liner could be sporting an E-9 V-8, but we'll never know. Nice trucks, well done, but most truckers want to know more, transmissions, how is it geared........you know the stuff that would make it fun to drive, or a nightmare. Had an 85 R model tri-axel dump truck, took the twin stick 6 speed out of it, and put in a 2180 18 speed. Which was the difference between me wanting to drive that dump truck, or wanting to set it on fire.
Some nice Bulldog's There . & the Sound of the Straight piped E6 Mack Engine in the R Model reminds me of old times . There are Days I'd rather be back in a Bulldog or Acar than cutting grass . & Btw : I May get my name from a B Model Bulldog that was in my family many years I'm not only A Mack Man but a Brockway & Autocar Man myself . But there were quite a few Ole Paystar 5000's running around in my neck of the woods back in the day. . Mack

RP 3 Macks get fanfare for being tough trucks. There are lots of those MACK R-Model trucks STILL WORKING today more than any other truck series produced by the competition. I rather have MACK R-685 Tractor than the hideous piece of junk 2012 International Workstar I now use.
Mack is the only manufacturer who put a symbol on the front of each truck saying it was a DOG. I take that back. Brockway did it too after Mack bought them.

These trucks are built to work and are bulldog tough! Mack has allways made legandary trucks! Superliner and model R are really sharp rigs !
