- C. difficile is a public health threat that is often under recognized and under diagnosed in patients around the world. In older adults aged 65+ years, C. difficile infections take the lives of 1 in 11 patients within a month of diagnosis. Commonly thought of as a disease associated with hospital settings, community-associated C. difficile infections are on the rise. It is important to understand the prevalence and persistence of C. difficile and how C. difficile disproportionately affects adult patients. During this virtual symposium, a panel of experts will discuss the risks and clinical considerations regarding the management of C. difficile, as well as answer your questions about this disease.
This is an industry-supported symposium held in conjunction with the GSA 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting. Sponsored by Pfizer.
My mother just passed and was with a c diff infection that made her septic… her body had taken such a beating after she fell and broke her ankle, she had all the right factors to be a victim of this nasty bacteria, recent surgery, over age 65, multiple comorbidities, and she was in rehab facility and on antibiotics…. within two weeks she passed after being admitted to the ICU! WE HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING SO THAT PEOPLE OUT THERE DONT SUFFER LIKE MY MOTHER AND SO MANY OTHERS!!!!
I am so sorry about this happening to you…I worry so much about my mother who is in a rehab recovering from amputation above the knee.. but I am bringing her home approved for caregiver services. She has had cellulitis on her right arm and has been on Bactrim just ended 3 days ago.. so I want her home! I am giving her l reuteri probiotic to help..her recovery.
Please take Probiotics while receiving antibiotics
I WISH SOMEONE WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT SENIORS NOW WORK WELL PAST 65!! If you want to stop the spread include analysis of the population that ends up homeless and spread it through that population. I am on the verge of losing my job because of my recurring c. Diff and the resulting absences! This isn't an academic fear - as a senior working in retail, I live paycheck to paycheck. I can't take my humira so my arthritis is crippling me. I am on my 3rd bout and have one month to get this straightened or I lose my job and end up in a homeless shelter. So people that only have to worry about the emotional effect of this horrifying disease need to count their blessings.
Hello .. I hope you are doing better.. what a stressful position to be in. Has anything helped you?
Please take probiotics while receiving antibiotics
Can you get Short Term Disability?
Appreciate Dr. Gravenstein’s comments.
Listening to this scares me. It bothers me that I trust the healthcare system to manage my health.
You can’t trust them… your gut is telling you right… the medical community just goes by textbook.. and have no clue sometimes. That’s why you have to be self advocate or if you have family be advocates that research on their own.
I was contaminated with this horrific bacteria during a hospital stay. There was no antibiotics involved in what I was there for.
I am on day 73 with chronic diarrea after that. No help in Vancomycin or Flagyl at all. So thank you for this informative video.
Could you ask your doctor to refer you to get an FMT (fecal transplant/fecal microbiome transplant)?
Patients who have surgery are given antibiotic to avoid infection during surgery. It is standard practice. Hospitals are full of germs.
YOU CAN'T AVOID GETTING CD SPORES AS LONG AS YOU'VE BEEN IN A BUILDING WITH ANYONE WITH C.DIFF. YOU WILL FOR SURE GET THE SPORES. THE STUFF IS EVERYWHERE. ITS LIKE COVID.
This is outstanding - thank you!
I was told that just this week about my asthma, in the hospital where I had been treated for 5 days. "There is nothing else we can do." It is quite the punch to the face when they tell you that. Why ever go back? Do you get your things in order to die? I don't know about this lady, but how do you go to a hospital or clinic if you have extreme diarrhea and are doubled over in pain? Now, I think I have C. diff., but they want to see me. I can't drive! I can't leave a bathroom! I'm laying here thinking ... I'm done. I'm just going to be on water until it stops. I have all kinds of medicines I was discharged with, but I'm not taking anything until this stops because maybe it ISNT CDI.
I had to produce my sample at home, immediately refrigerate it, then immediately take immodium. In 10 hours I was able to get it to the lab and drop it off. Same thing to get to the doctor. Take immodium to get there and back. They will give you the stool collector kit while you are there. It is SO INFURIATING that they just don't get it!!
And if it is c. Diff and you don't do anything about it, it will result in having to use a colostomy bag or dying. They don't tell you that at your visit.
@@annhanceNEVER take Imodium with a possible c-diff infection!!
Mine has been going on for approximately 2 weeks. Twice within that timeframe I’ve felt faint twice. I have worked peds in my past nursing employment. I have experienced C. DIFF in my patients. I decided to seek urgent care tomorrow. Just to see what’s going on. Sometimes cramping, sometimes not. Mostly liquid stools. I’m not sure if I had fever except when I felt faint.
I went 3 weeks and they said it was the flu. I am 47 with no exposure as I rarely go out other than to work
Work is the perfect place to get it. You can pick ot up from surfaces up to 5 years after c. Diff spores land there if it isn't cleaned with bleach. And the doctors usually don't tell you to stay home from work so you don't infect your coworkers or the cleaning staff.
I hope you're doing better. X
What lactose free probiotic is best for balancing microme
Kafir is low in lactose because the bacteria have pre digested it
Thank yoy
My friend was diagnosed with colorectal cancer stage 1. She was exposed one on one with a patient who had cdiff infection twice in 8 months. I wonder if the cdiff spores was inhaled by her and that is why she got stage 1 colon cancer.
Annoying. We ruth talks about hand washing hygiene as intervention. Please. Those of us listening to this are beyond the "just wash the hands" a person can practice good hygiene and get c diff.
I was hoping to hear about gut biome
Saccharomyces boulardii
Define "healthy microbiome"? Apparently it is resistant to C Diff, but what defines a healthy microbiome?
Right! Not all probiotics are created equal. There must be specific identifiable organisms that your biome needs to correct itself and beat c. Diff. Introducing organisms your biome doesn't need won't help much.
@@annhance Saccharomyces boulardii ( i saw a video where a practitioner said she used high dose of Saccharomyces boulardii to treat c diff patients. all of them were able to get rid of it except one had to do a second round.
I just learned I have this 😢
Me too 🥲so sick
@@AlyAlyson I’m so sorry you have it. It’s been 6 mos. now and I have IBS because of it. I hope you get better fast!
@@lamppole7896 I've been ayear. Just discovered though last week.GI wanted me to go in Hospital yesterday but I'm giing second dose of Vancomycin a try first. He wants to do Stool Implant 🤢
Can you repeat dificlir
Most useless talk ever. Eat well, hydrate well maintain good health and you'll just be fine WITH OR WITHOUT C. DIFF SPORES
