    *Virtue Ethics*
Foundational Question: What kind of person should I be?
2:03 Good Character Traits or Character Strengths
    4:14 Intellect
8:24 List of Good Character Traits
    9:23 One Virtue (Courage)
10:18 Laches ( *Not running away. Stand and Fight* Purely behavioral )
    12:00 Courage Community
12:45 False Positives (Fits the definition, but doesn't seem like courage)

14:20 Washington Running Away (Strategic Mouse Maneuver.)
15:03 Spartan Flanking (running away to circle around the enemy)
    16:00 Scorched Earth Policy
    19:25

    37:38 Resilience, Consistency, Persistence
39:19 Problem of reality making you incapable to endure
40:58 The Wise piece. (Think you will succeed vs think you will fail)
44:30 Wisely running from an enemy and not stopping, that's wise endurance but it does not feel like courage
44:45 *Knowing The Grounds of Fear and Confidence* aka Knowing what to fear and not to fear (Death or Dishonor. Personal Safety or Safety of Nation?)
46:18 Objection. Knowing is different from doing.

Excellent class. I'm studying Plato's Laches and trying to find an answer to the question: is cowardice a kind of ignorance? This was super helpful. Thank you for uploading

just a question, can the soul mean in some light ( the good). if so "wise endurance of the soul" could mean then not giving up on what we can live up to because we want to be happy, then carrying out of our morals

Courage seems to be a preservative.

Re courage and sides on a war.
Would a German fighting in WW2, who commits an act of valour in war, that is diametrically apposed to the central Dogma that makes them “evil” not be a courageous act? Such as for example a German not taking a Jewish child from their parents and lying to their superiors?

Thanks for this lecture. Very helpful. Is there a video for the 'next time' when you promised to discuss the knowledge one?
