Nope, I'm afraid you have got this all wrong. AB got it wrong this time. Many people here are quoting the UK Highway Code. The Highway Code is not law. Never has it been. Secondly, the prevailing Statute allows all Emergency Service vehicle to park on double yellow lines. You may not like that fact, but the law deals in facts. Not opinions. I think the confusion is in the wording of the law. It states that 'Public Service' vehicles cannot park on double yellow line unless responding to an emergency. But Public Service vehicles are not Emergency Vehicles. Public Service vehicles are designated as water, gas and electricity services. They can only park on double yellow lines in the event of an emergency. However, Emergency Vehicles (Police, F&R and Ambulances) can legally park on double yellows when 'on duty'. 'On Duty' is not the same as being on an emergency call. Since all EVs are available to all personal it basically means that all EVs are 'on duty' 24/7. You may not like it, but that's the prevailing law. This also means stopping on a double yellow to buy your lunch is legal. Legal, yes 100%. Does it look good? Probably not. Does your opinion matter? On the I can't take the complaint. You can complain directly to the police/other organisation (see ‘Who can I complain about?’ below for a list of the other organisations) or via the IOPC. If you complain via the IOPC, your complaint will be sent direct to the organisation involved. They will assess your complaint and contact you about how it will be handled. The IOPC will not be involved with this initial assessment of your complaint. You can and are making the complaint direct to him. He has to take it. Not only that, since he's been told, he has to report the officer internally or he breaks section 10 of his code of ethics. However, in practice, the IOPC route to report the complaint is the way to go.
Basically. If you want to complain about a member of the peasant public, they'll happily take it and follow up. If it's a complaint against the police, a politician or an extremely wealthy person, they can't.

PFTP wrote to the council asking about Brixton police parking on double yellows. They replied saying they had no agreement/right to. And now have to park legally. Maybe do the same for Islington.
The woman behind the glass said that their yard was too small for all the police vehicles so that's why they need to park illegally. So if I go to a small car park that is full, can I just go and park on double yellows then? Would the police accept that as okay?
Exactly, oh I'm having a BBQ and invited my mates around, my drive is full but screw it lets all park on double yellows because my drive isn't big enough.
They should take away all the restrictions so the gates get blocked is that what you're saying? Then when there's an emergency and they can't get there morons like you will complain about the late response right?
At the police sergeant's exam: Question 1. When dealing with the general public do you A) put your hands in your pockets like you're having a day off or B) stand up straight with you your hands by your side looking professional. How did he pass?
It is a parking offence for any vehicle to park on double yellow lines unless it's an emergency service vehicle attending an emergency. The police CAN be ticketed for parking offences. The police excuse of there not being enough room in their car park is NOT a valid exemption simply because the yellow line parking restrictions were introduced to limit parking so any emergency vehicle could not be obstructed from getting near to an emergency, eg fire engine has to have so much of a road clear of parked vehicles along it's length. If the council has told it's wardens to ignore infractions by the police they are technically in the wrong, ANY vehicle can become an obstruction in an emergency. Also, the police should only allow marked police vehicles to park in their yard. If i was that cars owner i would be PISSED. Great video as usual. Yet another pompous git in the reception.
Dead right. The police should not have merged stations if the building and car parks were not fit for purpose. That’s not the responsibility of the public, that’s dipsticks deciding to merge when they shouldn’t. “Is there space in the car park for the extra vehicles?” “No, we’ll just park on the double yellows and blame the lack of space.” Great logic. I’m not sure I would trust some of these people to sit the right way round on a bicycle.
@@alexr8996 That would not stand up as a defence - if it did, then hundreds of tickets would not be paid by police officers every year. Which they have to, out of their own pockets.

Imagine how ridiculous it would be expecting police, paramedics and firefighters to have to run around back to the vehicle parked only god knows where when they have to go to an emergency 😂
True perhaps. But please remember the Police uphold the law, not make it. As per the prevailing statue, Police vehicles are allowed to park on double yellow lines if they are on duty. The problem comes with defining 'on duty'. Who or what is 'on duty'? Police vehicles, if they are allocated to duty staff are therefore 'on duty'. You may not agree with that fact. It may trigger some sort of repulse against the Police. But they are actually parking in accordance with the law, despite your opinion. Opinions are subjective. Law is objective.

Exact same issues here in a coastal village (Malahide), Dublin Ireland. The local Council (Fingal County Council) have an agreement with the local police (Garda) that their traffic wardens will not ticket Garda official vehicles or privately owned vehicles owned by members of the Gardaí. To ensure the warden doesn’t ticket the privately owned vehicles, (which are regularly untaxed and parked on double yellows/blocking ‘dropped kerbs’ (designed for wheelchairs)), the local Gardaí place a small blue piece of paper on their windscreen. Police officers and members of Police staff should not accept the offer of ANY gift, gratuity, favour or hospitality unless the circumstances and considerations set out within this procedure are applicable, as to do so might compromise their impartiality or give rise to a perception of such compromise. So by the council giving the Police officers this "gift" to park on double yellow and not get fined for it gives a clear direction that the police is above the councils street rules regarding parking. Each driver that park their police vehicle illegally need to declare these gifts by the council to HMRC. The disabled person was not exempt from a ticked whilst parking inn the exact same manner. They all do what they like and protect each other
I once drew a thin blue line with a ballpoint pen. It was the vertical line of capital P in 'Police are . . . '.
Royalty, politicians and billionaires are above the thin blue line, the police are the line, and the rest of us are below the line. That's the hierarchy. They divide the rulers from us, that's their job.
Hands in his pocket, rocking on his heels, rolling his eyes to the ceiling. That Sergeant was always going to brush you off. Filthy cars that are poorly maintained, muppets swearing at the public, park where they like. There's a serious, likely systemic, problem in the station.

"Can police cars park on yellow lines?
The Highway Code states that traffic laws apply to everyone, even police cars. The police are only allowed to stop on double yellows if they are dealing with a motorist or attending an emergency."
Does tea count
Very true double standards
Did you find the bit about them being above the law?
No, since we are dealing with Statute. And remember, the police have zero input on making or changing the Law.

“Is there space in the car park for the extra vehicles?”
“No, we’ll just park on the double yellows and blame the lack of space.”

@@philliplester1741 Loads do get cancelled/quashed or simply not issued by traffic wardens. No different to a fire engine or ambulance (which also park in places by your reckoning they shouldn't). At no point does it say the vehicle must be used for emergency purposes. Forces may have policies around it though. I admit its not ideal but it's still the wording regardless. Imagine how ridiculous it would be expecting police, paramedics and firefighters to have to run around back to the vehicle parked only god knows where when they have to go to an emergency 😂
Police love a chat until they’re wrong, can’t run back inside quick enough to avoid the questions
The whole police parking needs to be looked into along with their attitude.

This alerts the warden so as not to be ticketed. The council deny any knowledge of this ‘agreement’ , despite one of their own wardens telling me this. They claim the warden was a trainee and incorrect in her understanding of the rules. This corruption occurs daily in many places. 🙄

Police officers MUST act, and be seen to act, in accordance with the law. This contributes to Police legitimacy by encouraging the public to trust that the police do not act arbitrarily and are subject to same rules as everyone else.
The Highway Code state that traffic laws apply to everyone, even police vehicles. The police are ONLY allowed to stop on double yellow if they are dealing with a motorist or attending an emergency.
