    I love this video. I am a Permanente having lived in Mexico for 10 years. Most of that time I’ve spent in San Miguel. I’m in Baja now for the summer but leaving soon to return home to sma. I have seen many, many travel videos. This was the most informative and no nonsense video chock-full of information that would be invaluable to someone who’s living there or moving there. Thank you so much for this great video.

      Glad you enjoyed it! I try my hardest to give people a true view into what living in a city is going to be like. As much as possible of course nothinbg compares to actually being here and experiencing it yourself :)

      I will be home in sma in about a month. Can’t wait. It’s been my home for so long. The most important benefit of living there, the thing that brings me back all of the time is community. Thanks again.

    To compare, where we live in Morelia, is at the same elevation (6200 ft.) so utilities are about the same. There are as many things to do as well.
    We live in the Colonia area, we pay 8000 pesos ($400.00 USD) per month for a beautiful 3 bdrm/3 ba, nearly 4000 sq ft home. Maybe we just got lucky, but that's much less expensive than in San Miguel de Allende.
    There ARE fewer expats, so maybe that helps. My wife is a Mexican citizen and I'm from Reno, Nevada. We've also seen no need for a car. All our needs can be filled within walking distance, with the exception of an occasional UBER ride, as parking can be difficult.
    Anyway, another great video.

    I spent 9 days in San Miguel petsitting in the San Antonio neighborhood. I loved it! I enjoy walking everywhere so it was perfect. I even walked to El Charco del Ingenio, which took me about 45 minutes but was so scenic. I think that compared to many places in Mexico San Miguel can be a little more expensive. But a perk that I noticed is that credit cards are accepted in many more places than you typically find in Mexico so that was convenient. I felt very safe as a solo woman traveler and made a number of friends in the short time I was there. I can also recommend some of the walking tours and had a great time horseback riding nearby. I would say that if you’re from elsewhere and thinking of moving to Mexico San Miguel would probably a softer landing than other places. I was there during Día de Independencia, which was a lot of fun, though yes, very noisy. In general Mexico can be very noisy but it depends on what you’re used to. At least you don’t hear lawnmowers/weed whackers/leaf blowers all the time!

    Mariana! You create such beautiful videos full of good information. I am always struck by all the hard work that must go into each presentation. I have been researching the prospect of relocating to Mexico for the past year, and your videos and emails are a treasure. As someone who is a tiny bit bilingual (I understand and speak at a very basic level and get by with the little I know) ... I struggle to understand the Spanish words in your videos (mostly due to the natural speed to which they are spoken) and realize this is where I fall short, and hope to come up higher in my fluency. Thank you for all you do, for all of us who have our hearts set on making Mexico our forever home.

    Wow, that was extremely informative! I cannot wait for my wife to see this. This was by far the best video I have seen on San Miguel De Allende. We are moving there in 3 years for sure, but we want a 3BR home to rent for at least 10 years while we travel world - off and on. I am an artist, musician, writer, technologist, etc., and want to have fun, create and start a non-profit to help the communities, people and small businesses. I would love to see a video of all the outside\surrounding communities or suburbs, town..? San Francisco, Azteca, Atascadero, Balcones, Guadiana, Independencia, Los Frailes, etc. and how the rent and options differ. How far is one end to the other driving or busing it as well. I know it's a lot of work, but you are the only person that offers so much detail, research and details. Thank you for putting so much time into your work. Mil Gracias! BTW, I would actually pay you for that type of video because my wife is coming there in April to look at places. Can you help us (of course for pay). BTW, she was born and raised in Mexico, has dual citizenship, but knows knowing about that part of Mexico. - Ron

    Several couples have returned from San Miguel having experience violence and loss of personal belongings. I thought moving there as an artist would work for me but listening to these experiences brought on a state of confusion. I’m still going to visit with moving in mind. I hope I choose well. Comments and advice appreciated. Oh, I do speak Spanish but it is Spain Spanish so I’ll have to learn the local dialect.

      ok karen. why dont you go take a nap. you are getting cranky again. I know it comes with old age, but getting snarky with strangers on the internet isnt going to cure your lonely days and nights, nor adding any more years to your rapidly depleting time on earth. So you might as well go sleep it off and try to wake up in a happier place.@@MaryGwenDungan

      @MaryGwenDungan sweetie, you would find ANYTHING to justify feeling afraid of Mexicans. If you dislike it so much, why dont you go back to where you came from? That is what folks like you have always told us Chicanos in the USA, even though we are indigenous to the Americas. Now you go to Mexico and think you own it. @@MaryGwenDungan

    • @GhostdanceCalaveras

      @MaryGwenDungan How many Americans or Canadians have been murdered in San Miguel in the last 10 years? How many Americans or Canadians have been stabbed or shot in San Miguel in the last 10 years? How many Americans or Canadians have been brutally beaten and had their car stolen in the last 10 years? NONE. NOT A SINGLE ONE. Contrast that with the United States in which people murder unarmed civilians; white supremacists kill at will; mass shootings, etc etc. If it is so dangerous, if it is so bad, why do all you gringos keep moving there? Including the millions of you have refuse to obey Mexicos immigration laws and you stay in the country illegally?

    Invasive noise, very high volume noise, is a growing problem in San Miguel de Allende.
    Almost nightly and daily rocket explosions, accompanied sometimes by simultaneous fireworks, are ruining San Miguel de Allende for me.
    Even though I live in a relatively sheltered barrio called La Aldea, well off Calle Ancha and other streets, and quite a distance from El Centro and La Parroquia, the almost nightly, hours-long volleys of top-volume rocket explosions have destroyed my ability to sleep at night. This thunderous noise goes on until 12:00 midnight, 1:00 AM, and as late as 2:00 AM. It often starts up again at 4:30 AM to 6:00 AM. These explosions will go on for several hours, almost nonstop, and this occurs 3-4 days a week. About 2-3 days a week, rocket volleys resume in the afternoon, anywhere between 2:30-5:00 pm.
    I feel trapped by this massive, frequent, and assault I’ve barrage off extreme noise.
    Unfortunately, I am locked into a full year’s lease.
    Residents tell me that the municipality has financial incentives to allow indiscriminate firing of both rockets and fireworks. I’m told that fiestas are an almost daily/nightly way of life, and that there’s nothing to be done.

      @@joaquindiazgarcia5343 hola!
      La inmobiliaria donde trabajo se llama RESMA y mi email es: miguel@resma.mx
      Saludos

    Is there a problem with cockroaches or other pests or vermin in the city that renters should be concerned with? Are there any native poisonous species of snakes or spiders that are a concern?

    • @MexicoRelocationGuide
      @MexicoRelocationGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes of course. Like anywhere in the world there are bugs. People fumigate to keep them out of the house.

      As a renter, is this the responsibilty of the tenant or is it customary for the landlord to handle these type of things? We are a future client of yours btw :) Planning to purchase the guide before the new year, with an anticipated move to San Miguel in May 2024@@MexicoRelocationGuide

    • @MexicoRelocationGuide
      @MexicoRelocationGuide  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it is the responsibility depending on what the contract or lease says. Fumigating isn't expensive, so tenants usually choose to do it on their own dime.

    Is SMA a dog friendly town? If not, are their areas in Las Brisa or Guadalupe dog friendly?

    • @MexicoRelocationGuide
      @MexicoRelocationGuide  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it is very dog friendly. There are lots of parks that allow dogs. As long as you pick up after them 😊

      What about rentals? We have 4 xoloitzcuintli and are nervous that we will not be able to find a rental for that many dogs. Does the Mexico Relocation Guide have a list of dog friendly landlords that understand not everyone has just one tiny small lapdog, but that there are actually families with actual dogs that they cannot just abandon? @@MexicoRelocationGuide

      Los Angeles is one oh them, and if you don't know there's not an official language on the states.

    I am glad you enjoy San Miguel de Allende, but I don't. You would have to pay me a lot of money to live in San Miguel de Allende. The culture is not authentic and is dying one starbucks at a time there. It is like turning into a "Disney" type of Mexico. It is like what foreigners think Mexico is, but it is not. It is like Olivera St. in Los Angeles but only a whole city.

      I mean just because there is Starbucks doesn’t mean it’s not México
      It is still authentically colonial and has a lot of charm. But I get it. It’s not for everyone

      I lived in San Miguel de Allende 6 magical years and all I can say is PARADISE heaven on earth. They accomplished a great combination of a mix with old architecture with modern lifestyle. Only 1 Starbucks in Centro located in a Hacienda type mini mansion that makes you want to stay all day. The town is full of love, history, culture, music, art lots of it and the best 5 star hotels and restaurants. Fid I mentioned perfect weather all year round?? It's a privilege to live in San Miguel de Allende PERIOD!!

      There is crime like any other city in the world. But we still believe it is very low and peaceful to live in San Miguel de Allende.

      I think San Miguel de Allende is beautiful- doesn’t mean that other places aren’t also pretty. Each city in Mexico is unique and beautiful in its own way. Don’t you think?
