  • I put this video together because during the Dark Sky Island album release I had heard, "Enya doesn't tour because she can't sing live". I don't know why she doesn't tour, maybe she can't be bothered or feels she is rich enough ;) but utterly, and definitely can sing live! :) WMG blocked audio to a couple of more tracks. Below there're links where you can hear them. Enjoy. If anyone wonders song at 13min is "Mhórag's na horo Gheallaidh" from "Fuaim" album w/Clannad

I met her...was given several minutes of her attention when all I had hoped for was a quick friendly hello. Instead - she was simply friendly, warm, down to earth, not in a hurry to move on. Gave me more than the time of day in other words. She is beautiful, in all respects.

I completely understand why people think that, my friend. In her recordings, her voice has a lot of processing, especially huge reverbs, and multiple layers of vocals sometimes all playing at once. So, I could come up with a few ideas on why it was believed she didn't sing live or tour. Firstly, I thought it would be very challenging to reproduce all those vocal effects live without losing the songs' impact. The second hypothesis was that she couldn't really sing live because it was all studio work. Well, several of the videos you've gathered prove all of that wrong. My jaw dropped when I heard "May It Be." Now, I sense a certain shyness in all her performances, perhaps that's the real reason.

I think there are two major reasons why she doesn't do live shows. She is a perfectionist of sound and she adds so many layers of vocal tracks to each song that she feels she can't reproduce that quality in a live setting. The other is she's shy and prefers to be out of the lime light. I wish some day she does tour, i'd go for sure. Thank you for sharing, loved this

On a school trip, we went to see some deep caves and caverns, long underground dimly lit tunnels when one felt like a dwarf deep in the mine. And, right out of the blue, they started to play Only Time on the background...and I had suddenly a profound emotional almost religious experience of the whole thing: the settings, the music, the uniqueness of the situation... I don't think I could ever repeat it even I managed to replicate the conditions exactly :) But I can see where you're going!

Enya rarely performs live. I think she is more mindful on this last promo trip. Her recordings are multi layered. She records her vocals hundreds of times, in the studio. No. Samples. She creates a vocal wall of sound through hard work. No shortcuts. Technology allows her to be more comfortable live. This is a test run I think she will finally tour or do a massive show streamed worldwide. One day. I hope she does. To fill the love from her audience. Logistics.

One of the most talented and classy singers of our generation, and we have people in the comment section criticizing her because she doesn't live up to their expectations of what a live performance should be like. Unbelievable.

Wow! I thought most of the EnyaTV performances maybe save one were lip-synced, but you proved me wrong, it is unmistakeable live performance and sometimes ... quite beatiful. The version of Amarantine gained a whole new emotion when performed live! I'm also so glad I could finally see one of the Clanad performances/hear the songs!

May it be is absolutely stunning and that alone shows us her beautiful, it also show's how difficult to re-create a lot of her work live. I never doubted her singing voice, you just know that her voice is true & pretty amazing.
She is a remarkable musician as well.

ChrisR_art student Robby pretty amazing voice?? Come on..!! Her voice is horrible. The effects is the unique thing that hepl her to creat this particular sound.
But like a musican is wonderful...but like a singer is a shame.

@@fernandoarambula75 Youre clearly missing a couple brain cells. She gets really nervous live, so her throat tightens and doesnt allow enough airflow making it crack and sound weak but you can clearly hear moments where she hits her high notes perfectly and overall sounds so sweet. Better than 98% of the trash coming out these days.

Either she lips sings or doesn't lip sings she still is an amazing beautiful women unlike most female singers today she sings from the heart and gives it all she has with her voice she is my number one female singer of my favorite of all time :) I absolutely LOVE HER and always want to meet her in person one day and or sing at my wedding one day with my future husband I hope at least because most of her songs fit me :) she deserves awards for everything :)

Andrew Watson I agree, but it's obvious in all of these that she is singing live, people get obsessed with is it live or not and if like Enya is a most beautiful singer and sounds amazing live, well she must be lip synching. But I thank the guy who put this together which clearly show she has the most beautiful voice live or studio.

"According to Enya, the reason she doesn’t tour like other great musicians do is because of the very complex nature of her songs. Her songs are so complex that they cannot be easily reproduced live. In order to reproduce Enya’s songs live, one would need to hire hundreds of singers, a full orchestra and choir to play the different parts of her complex songs. It would not be an easy task to do.
I did not do the research, i copied it from a page.
But i do think she needs hundreds of singers cus she records her voice a many times and puts it together. That's why, i guess. But still epic. Most calming voice in music

    • @monsieurribah9584
      @monsieurribah9584 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

I don't think it's only that, I see that she's not comfortable or fully able to sing completely live, she shows a fragility to keep her voice, in rare moments we have a 100% live performance. Ok, she has a complex music but she could presents a live version the way she could, the public would certainly love.

I remember the same criticism of Karen Carpenter (that she couldn't sing live) until she went on tour and blew everyone away. Studio records have lots of embellishments (Richard Carpenter was one of the first to do layering of voices which he learned from Les Paul). Live performances are never going to sound like the controlled atmosphere of a studio. Having said all that Enya is one of the top five female vocalists of all time in my book. Thanks for posting the video.
