This book has helped me respect Anthony and the entire band. It's difficult to bare your soul to the world and share intricate details of your ugly, selfish, addicted side. He has grown extensively into a beautiful, deep man.
First time I read the book, I was NOT prepared for what I was reading, I've read it a few times and I appreciate it more and more with every following reading :)) Thank you, Anthony
Its hell ain’t it? Opiates and cocaine are fucking awful.....there is nothing that can prepare anyone for the power of addiction. You think you know from pot or alcohol.....but no, its not even in the same universe. I’m grateful for suboxone. It helped me kick everything and get my life together to the point I didn’t want/need to use anymore. It helped me get a life, one worth living, and now its gone too, with no regrets. Just remember, its a lifelong battle. I was sober from 19-32 years old. Then I picked up and got worse then I could imagine in just a few months. Destroyed my life in just a few years. Now I know what I am for sure.
He has a more than interesting and controversial past. It's not the book that is interesting (it's not greatly written) , but him and his life. I think that the relationship between him and Flea is really a deep friendship and that helped them both to sober up. I saw them play live just a couple of days ago and they are in top form. I'm so glad they have chosen this path. They are truly talented.
Nicely said. I really like the book and have it (start to finish) about 3 times over the years. My only critique of it is that if suffers from mid-point syndrome (I've seen it quite a bit in musician auto-bios) for a good 30 to 40 pages it's just his next girlfriend and his drug experiences with her. I was more curious about studio stories, touring stories, maybe his view on things, perhaps some advice for aspiring musicians (similar topics in other similar-bios)
I read some reviews before reading it (barely 100 pg in) and it shocked me that some critics said Flea doesn't talk to "narcissist" Anthony anymore. Are they talking out their ass?
"I was busy doing something else. Owning some skills that would have been useful for writing songs. Like pain and suffering." How can you not love this guy. That's literally what there is to be human
The book is enlightening but scared me because from a parental perspective my life was similar so it helped me describe and process a few things. He is very self aware and unapologetic as he should be.
It's mostly your genetics. Some people peak and look in their mid 30s in their 20s, etc. I'm 32 and find it ultra flattering when people say "You look more like 24 or 25"
They were set to release a television series on HBO. It mysteriously stopped production. It did'nt dawn on me till recently I think there were bits in the book they didnt want to draw attention to. Or he did'nt want to be that commercialized.
It's 80 percent of your genetics. Those who are of Asian, Native American, or South American descent tend to have good aging genetics. His mostly vegan, sugar free, and ability to stay in shape has no doubt helped.
What I got from the book, is that Anthony has mastered the ‘cycle’ of addiction. He still effing loves drugs and he effing loves the process of cleansing himself-knowing he’ll eventually return to the madness. He’ll never be completely clean. I just hope he doesn’t OD from hidden fentanyl in his favorite drugs

scar tissue is amazing and it really made me get into rhcp more than before but i still feel very conflicted about it. i just don't see how a grown man could have sex and do drugs with 14/15-year olds and then write about uncritically (not only in scar tissue but also in catholic school girls rule). i love the band and what they do but i really don't know how to resonate on that one
Leander Apostolou I read he was 12 when his dad let his gf deflower him. And he did cocaine with his dad too. Amongst weed & prob acid. He was shooting heroin before 18 probably. But you're saying as a 18 year old he slept with a 16 year old?
If memory serves me right his 14 year-old catholic schoolgirl adventure was when he was around 20 and he met Ione when he was around 25. Nevertheless, The 14 year-old is described as a very bate-like character, and in the case of Ione, in my country consensual sex is legal from the age of 16.
People will try and argue this who were born in like 2000, or even some straight edge kids born before, but times truly were different. When I was growing up in high school 2003 the seniors dated the freshman 18 and 14. 15 year old girls some had 29 yr old bfs. Weird but it was before the internet. The internet made everyones business everyone else's business and made everyones decisions up for debate. Back then this shit was only a problem if the girl complained. Now everyone else will do the complaining for you.
Okay, I read your book. I loved the part about Buddy Holley, how you prepared for the role. I have a question: Why Sitting Bull on one arm and (I assume it is Black Kerttle) on the other arm? Just a Lakota Fan.
Definitely! Please don't CUT your hair. Keep layers and frame your handsome characteristics all the way around. OK we mustn't leave out Jman. grow grow grow. trim ends every 3wks. keep heat Protestant if product on it. Wow and FLEA N CHADLY: GO FOR A FRO! KEEP the hair moist. OK I feel like myn2¢ has been invested well😀
I just bought scar tissue on audible. I didn't need to buy it because I already read it in print 10 years ago. I bought it so I could comment. I was so disgusted with some of the comments. I wanted to have my say about how cool it is and how cowardly the critiques were. He was totally honest and feminine. He was also totally macho and that, upset people, but we don't have to be ashamed of manliness and courage. That makes no sense to me. It's vogue, though, isn't it? Let's hate the man spirit. If you haven't read this book and you want to feel things and think things, get it! Read it. It pumped me up. I can't even describe it, but there's nothing else like it. Ok.. I had my say. Haha, I forgot to mention that audible wouldn't let me comment. I got to freestyle machismo speech. It is a must freestyle situ. Hopefully, someone will read this and get it.
prolly a coincidence but I had hep c too and he reminds me of some homeless guy I used to know named rick marentette who's birthday was on November 1st
theres a lot of mentions of sex & drug abuse, even far more than in fleas acid for the children, I think its better if u read it when ur a little older since its explicit and deals with serious topics, u would understand it a lot better if u read it when ur more mature and developed as a person :))
I thought the book was shit. If you are a fan of the band it offers little insight into the timeline of the music, it's just "what chick I was banging when uplift mofo was released"... it goes on and on about drug addiction which I can understand, but it's almost like he bares no remorse for his behaviour during that time, there's barely anything on Hillels death, it's like he doesn't have the intelligence to contemplate his wrongdoings because he maintains the same hedonistic druggie lifestyle for years. His attitudes to drugs and woman make me doubt his whole "love and spirituality and passion" garb he goes on about all the time.
This book has helped me respect Anthony and the entire band. It's difficult to bare your soul to the world and share intricate details of your ugly, selfish, addicted side. He has grown extensively into a beautiful, deep man.
Im glad it helped you accomplish your goal of respecting him and the band?
In it he admits to having sex with an underage 14 year old girl multiple times. That makes you respect him?

this book helped inspire me to get clean from opiates.

Kevin Harris I feel the same way but with Kratom. Wish I had found it a decade sooner. I could've saved some friends lives.

The book seems like it’s just one sexual and drug party after the other. It’s entertaining but not very deep
It's the perfect time for the follow-up to Scar Tissue

he is so authentic and kind. Love his smile @9:17 ..
