    I enjoyed watching your video very much. The wealth of knowledge I just gained cannot be measured. Very well lit, nice clear audio, very clean shop. I had no idea of utilizing the card to take down the finish between coats. I am impressed. Thank you.

    Great look at the card scraper. A tip for after: instead of the abrasive pad, use an even finer abrasive at the end, a piece of a brown paper bag.

    Great explanation of different techniques, a couple I hadn't seen before. I'm new to this tool and this was very helpful.

    I have watched a number of your youtubes. You instruct/demonstrate with great clarity. Thank you, I have learned a lot from you. FYI, I use scrapers on the outside of my bowls when I am turning. I spray some water on the outside, rub it in with my hands as if I am shampooing my hair, spray a bit more water and then turn my lathe on, about 600 rpms and scrape away...Maybe two or three passes is all I need, cleaning the scraper after each pass with paper towel. If there are some torn spots on the end grain, still present, I repeat the "rub" of water but only on the torn area and repeat a much lighter scrape one or two times. Magic! I can start sanding with 220g.

    I find the best way to get glue squeeze out off is to rub some sawdust on it right after, thick shavings, and then wait a little while and it all comes off fairly easily with the scraper

    I've sharpened a card scraper by hand for 30+ years. Tomorrow, I'm making one of your little jigs.......it's so sensible, and so obvious. I've no idea why I didn't come up with something like that myself.

    Did you need to sharpen your scraper between each segment?

    • @DCFMvideos
      @DCFMvideos  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** No, but I had sharpened all four edges prior to shooting. That was easily enough to get through the shoot. Scraper edges, properly sharpened and with a burr that isn't to big will last for 5 to 10 minutes or so depending greatly on what you are scraping. So that's anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes between sharpening. If you are just cutting back finishes they will last a lot longer than that.

    "...and because it's metal, you can't hurt it." So not true, you can totally trash it in an instant.
