Echinacea Purple Coneflower from seed to seedling to plant to flowers to transplant.

  • This video took a few years to make.
    I started with purchased seeds and waited for the seedlings to pop up, then transplanted them in to a garden bed and watched them grow.
    Then last weekend I transplanted them again to a new area, where I hope they do much better.
    Thanks for watching!

    This video is a labor of love. For us serious growers, really appreciate you recorded this through the seasons and over multiple years. That’s exactly how this plant grows. Kudos!!!!!

    Keeping up with this over time, including through 2020 is awesome! And very helpful. I'm growing from seed for the first time this year, thank you for this!

    I’m starting echinacea from seed this year and this is exactly the video I needed! Most videos are just about harvesting the seeds, not so much about growing from seed, transplanting and progress. Love it!♥️

      Thank you so much. Best of luck with your seedlings. I do lots of plants like this.

    Wow, that is a long time to flower. I'm growing some for the first time. I'm about a month in. I appreciate the dedication you put into this educational video.

    Like a lot of perennials, they take a year or two to establish themselves. Here in Zone 5b, they never bloom the first year!

    Thank you so much, as one comment said,"This video is a labor of love". A few years ago I found a patch of wild coneflowers on my property but was unable to do any gardening at the time but did manage to transplant a few
    to my front yard. Now I'm trying to locate a few from that now basically bare patch but am having a hard time
    recognizing them. Your vid really helped me...thanks so much! Flowers of blessings! p

    Just what I needed to watch. I read online that it would bloom in the second year. This is very reassuring. I need to plant about 50 plants. It’s cheaper to start them from seeds. Thank you.

    What an excellent video of the life of the Echinacea from seed to maturity through the seasons. I'm in the UK and was looking for a video of sowing Cornflower when I came across this gem, brilliant!

    Wow so beautiful and first year blooms?! That’s so cool. I’m used to seeing them bloom the second year. I hope you saved the seeds to that one that bloomed first. Might be awesome genetics. Thanks so much for sharing. Happy growing! ❤

    These videos are amazing. Getting to see how they grow helps me understand how they grow at the start, how they grow, how many I need/want in a given space as a first time grower, etc. Watching these videos is a wealth of information. It's also fun to "speed grow" plants. Thanks for sharing and I hope you continue to share about other plants

    These videos are why I just love your channel so much and always recommend people watch!! In my zone these are native so they flourish with no help from me but I want to try a little hugelkture myself this spring with the rotten wood gardening. I always found these plants to spread like wildflowers (haha!) from seed so I plant mine without any mulch and they take over very fast. Need lots of direct sunlight for that deep, rich color of purple. I’ve had them come up in shady areas and they’ve still bloomed though not nearly as vibrant color. Very excellent vid!!!

      Thank you! I moved them to a sunny spot. Hope they do better here. Due to the extreme heat and humidity it's been a struggle to keep plants happy.

    This is so information rich. Thank you for showing the lifespan of this plant! It’s November and I’m just itching to sow seeds so I’m turning to perennials like these that will grow slow as babies but be hardy enough to go outside into cold when they outgrow my indoor lighted area. Thank you for this!!!

    Sometimes the first year plant will only get the leaves … the next year flowers and the year after that more flowers with more color

    Very interesting video. I too have found them really slow to get going here in UK. Some didn’t make it. But they are so worth it for a late summer show! And the seed heads are lovely too. I think they’re quite hungry feeders so that helps them to bulk up well. Not sure why you dug them up…they were just getting really ‘in their stride!’

    • @zaneymay
      @zaneymay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I dug them up for two reasons. One to see the root because they say the root has the most medicinal value. And as you can see it would take a lot of plants to get a small about of root harvested.
      Second reason I needed to move them the trees had grown and it was getting to much shade.
      I have them in several places in the garden now.

    • @hilshils3426
      @hilshils3426 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zaneymay oh yes, I forgot that the root can be used! I just grow them cos they’re pretty! 2 other varieties I love are E.pallida and E.’Green Twister’…

    I started coneflower seeds back in April this year and all I see is leaves. I did black eyed susans around the same time and it bloomed this year. The echinacea did not bloom this year, will I see the flower next year?

    • @zaneymay
      @zaneymay  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes if you did not get blooms this year and the plant survives the winter it will bloom next year.

  • @theurbanthirdhomestead

    Did you deadhead the ones that had multiple blooms?

    • @zaneymay
      @zaneymay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I harvested the full bloom not the dead heads for tinctures. Oh wait I took a few for seeds.
