      That one stuck out as wierd to me because I could almost swear they even used the word "friends" in their reveal of the multiplayer functionality.
      Something like "Make sure to tag your created levels with multiplayer in mind so that friends who want to duke it out can find it".

    Nintendo is the DEFINITION of the grandpa of the video game industry. Cool guy, pretty chill, self made man with wholesome values, but god damn is he living in the past with some of his shit.
    "Oh i can't wrap my head around this newfangled technology, I'll just stick to the way dad, the way america did, because it's worked out well so far.'

      It is both their greatest strength and weakness.
      On the one hand they are never doing what their competition or the industry in general dictates, and this means many of their titles are extremely innovative and refreshing to play when every other major studio is chasing and failing at the current fad.
      On the other hand it means they are woefully out of touch with basic quality of life mechanics that have been solved for decades. It also means they need to waste development time on alternatives to these basic quality of life mechanics, most of which tend to be mediocre solutions or outright abominations that actively hurt the experience of the player.

    Do you know why the battlefrontier; a massive post game area from Pokemon Emerald didn't make it into the remakes of Ruby and Saphire? For Sun and Moon, there exists fully animated 3D models with walk animations of all the Pokemon, and the Switch has been out for 2 1/2 years right now, so they have models and everything, it seems that they want to upscale everything and are just grossly incompetent at it, I have every mainline Pokemon game except for Ruby, Sapphire, and FireRed , and I am just really confused at what Nintendo and GameFreak are doing right now.

      Bringing in models from another game doesn't mean just upscaling them. There's usually specific quirks to animation/implementation to work out in a new environment, plus translation/creation of data for the pokemon to fit whatever new or altered systems might be in place in that game.
      Even if it might not be as big of an undertaking as it could be, it's still not trivial - and there's a lot of Pokemon. I don't think it's impossible or anything but I can see it being a time/resource investment that might not be their first priority.

    Pokemon is such a weird case of wanting so badly to keep the game the same but also reinvent the wheel every time. Every game is basically the same structure with minor variations on the story and flow, but starting with X&Y they keep pushing some new gimmick that attempts to cannibalize the battle system and gets replaced with a new gimmick by the next gen. The fact that we've reached a point where I've seen people say "I wonder what the new gimmick for this gen will be" is absolutely disgusting.

    Random notes of interest I want to make in case woolie or pat actually read comments.
    -Double battle triple battle AND the never talked about but really fantastic rotation battle all made it into xy.
    -triple battle and rotation battle did not make it to sunmoon however. not sure why.
    -Pat mentions needing to create overworld animations for pokemon in swordshield, sunmoon had walking AND running animations for all 803 pokemon (PLUS their mega forms plus any alternate forms some pokemon might have) that went unused in the game.
    -these walking and running animations were used in lets go pikachu and eevee. but since those games only feature 151 pokemon, a good 750 or so have still gone unused (give or take a few specific moments + megas and all that).
    -that's mostly unrelated but it does tell you that needing to create new animations for the wild area in swordshield is mostly a non issue, and something they'd be wasting their time on with the exception of winged pokemon looking goofy.
    -Pokemon fans want nothing more than quality of life changes, we want the best without it becoming different, not everything to stay identical.
    A lot of pokemon fans during the DS era agreed that HeartGoldSoulSilver had the best use of the bottom screen. there was no watch bullshit or infrared stuff. it was menu buttons and item toggles, everything that it needed to be.
    -This was until the PSS (player search system) came to xy. it was like a consistent update on which of your friends was online, what they were doing, who around you locally was playing pokemon, as well as a feed of random strangers on the internet you can ask to battle or trade with at any moment. it was fucking fantastic.
    -Sun and moon replaced this with a plaza system that was clunky and really confusing initially (and still sort of is I have no idea the fucks going on with it) and was agreed upon to be a downgrade.
    -Imagine my last few points about the bottom screen, with the applications going from ok to great to weird and not so useful to perfect to shitty again. apply this to every single aspect of the series. not necessarily in the same order, but this whole series is a roller coaster of nonsense is mainly what I'm getting at.
    -This happens every generation. it's ridiculous. I'm gonna be spewing some made up numbers but it pretty much reads like this just as an example of how it feels. each gen introduces 25 new ideas some good some bad. then in gen following gen, about 5 of those are brought back as they were. 5 are improved, 5 will become infinitely worse and ruin what made them enjoyable, and the other 10 will just not exist anymore.
    -Every new generation has some genuinely great ideas on how to improve the world of pokemon and if they were to build on these ideas instead of whateverthefuck it feels like they actually do, then swordshield would be gearing up to be the best games to ever exist, as opposed to people having panic attacks over it.
    -Every Pokemon is someones favorite.

    So two things: the Pokemon Company is a three-way between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, who have worked together since the first games.
    The second is about the model duplication. I'm reasonably certain that it's done for seek time optimization on slow disc media, where sequential reading is adequately fast but random seek times to obtain the needed data would hurt load times so they include duplicate models for various scenes to make loading much easier. My theory for this is based on what I've seen of dissassembled ISOs for Persona 3 and 4. You would be surprised how many models there are of the player character or a team member holding just a cellphone. Same textures, same general model, holding the same cellphone, but duplicated a lot.
    Now, since they've moved back to flash storage, I assume the seek times are better than discs but it does get to be a problem when you have high quality models and animations duplicated multiple times, especially if they're handling it that inefficiently.

    On one hand, 800+ pokemon is definitely a lot to model and implement, so it makes sense they would run into these issues. On the other hand, this is a problem they should have seen coming due to how fast they crank out these games and how each one introduces another 100+ monsters. In a franchise whose sole purpose and goal is collection, it is a little late to start cutting out a chunk of them and telling people that things will never be whole again. Because if "Gotta Catch Some of Them" is the future of this franchise, what is the point of it anymore? Ya know, besides making a crap ton of money regardless.

      also, maybe they can reduce the number new mons per Gen? we don't need another obvious Piggy or Rattata analog to fill the new game's Route 1 every single time, just reuse Piggy and Rattata, and if you need to spice things up just bring back regional forms like Sun and Moon had.

    On the Splatoon 2 voice chat thing. It can't be emphasized enough how much portability changes things. When you're putting voice chat into a game you have to account for how much bandwidth is going to transmitting a voice signal, on top of all the packets your client needs to send and receive for gameplay.
    Online games on the Switch have to account for the nightmare scenario, that some of your players might be running on Starbucks wi-fi. The bandwidth necessary for usable voice chat might not be available in these public spaces.
    It's not the best solution, and it could never be elegant, but offloading Splatoon voice chat to a phone app makes at least a bit more sense.

    • @FredCracklin
      @FredCracklin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There should though be multiple options, perhaps warnings about bandwidth use. Nintendo has the unenviable task of being the family friendly console maker, so they have to be able to make things work for kids and what parents may want to limit their kids to and keep things simple to understand. I do think they may be trying too hard to have their services work for everyone instead of having more customizable options, perhaps keeping some things locked behind parental modes.

    • @_Snowflame
      @_Snowflame 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @coinny22 I'm not 100% sure. That was my thought as I was writing this message. I guess the question is, if you're in a game with lobby voice chat -- CoD4 on XBox, as an arbitrary example -- and you mute some or all the players, does that data still get sent to you without being played?
      This is all speculation, and whether it works that way would depend on how the voice chat itself was programmed.
      EDIT: Having thought about this, this is might be a sidestep anyway. I'm not sure what it would cost to have the server identify clients with bad connectivity/portable mode and not send them voice comms, but I'm sure it's possible.

    • @RipOffProductionsLLC
      @RipOffProductionsLLC 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      personally I don't care about transferring old Pokémon up from previous gens, I care about the ability to catch them new in the game, getting a full dex has never required transfers from previous games(and really I'd almost consider that "cheating" the spirit of the challenge), even if sharing with the second game in the same generation was(not to mention how starters and legendries would need to be taken from other copies of the game).
      while the list of Pokémon definitely has it's share of duds or redundant designs(looking at you Black and White, where the whole region was nothing but new Pokémon, thus necessitating the creation of obvious filler that should have just been old classics like Piggy and Rattata), and could use some pruning... I think the solution is that we need fewer new Pokémon each Gen; 3(technically 9) new starters, 2 or 3 new legendries, and maybe 10 others tops.
      I mean the futureproof models shouldn't be hard to make, especially sense Pokémon is using carton/anime style cellshading were the updates will come from the lighting engine rather then the models

      The reason people are mad is because animal crossing is a game that has no ending so to speak, you are supposed to play it for a long ass time, not only that but the game encourages you to play it daily. This results in people spending hundreds of hours in play time. I'm sure you can imagine why people would want to store their saves in a cloud so they can get the save file back (and naturally everything they collected and built in those hundreds of hours) in case their switch breaks or gets stolen ( in which the probability of it happening is high since it's also a mobile console that you can take outside).

    • @gamerguy6990
      @gamerguy6990 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    from the sound of things for Pokemon, they basically need to super delay the new games. like there is so much im hearing that sounds so wrong that it sounds like they need a new game engine for their new games. like with Monster Hunter, the difference is that they wanted to make the games better.
    GameFreak needs to want that too instead of having their next big franchise game and NOT having the main team make it. they should have finished whatever Town is supposed to be and then get to making the next games.

    As a hardcore Pokémon fan since I was like 5 I can say..
    If GAMEFREAK is really considering never putting all Pokémon in a game again I will never buy another game. I’ve spoken with my friends who adore Pokémon and they all feel the same. This is 100% a rush job, and we are so passionate about Pokémon that we will deprive ourselves of a product that we wanted otherwise to make a stance demanding better for the games we’ve been indulging for years. Why buy Sword and Shield if it cost more and gives us less in return?
    Pokémon has been getting away with murder, having bland NPCs, a lackluster story since Gen 5, no interesting dialogue.. and the inability to skip basic tutorial cutscenes that last forever. Now we can’t even have our previous teams, or “catch em all.”
    Japan has also been very vocal about the laziness of GAMEFREAK. There is no excuse aside from them wanting to rush the product out for immediate profit. One of the cool things about Pokémon is that both adults and kids play it, and it’s further symbolized by the fact you could bring previous generations forward. This marks, quite literally, the end of an era. GAMEFREAK is not just leaving old generations of Pokémon behind, but all the old fans who have bothered to stuck with them throughout the years. This is a slap in the face towards their fan base, all in the name of getting a game out by the deadline. They had a choice, pick profit or the fans that support your products. They chose the money.

They never did that before why would they start now, I dont have the time to play the game every week so why should I be forced to finish my dlc hunt for the week and then have nothing to do even though I missed the last 4 weeks. They did so much to make the game less grindy and so many weapons had their movesets made insanely better, but when theres nothing to hunt it deters people like me from playing.

    This is why I never understood why people are so up Nintendo's ass with how "great" their products are, yet here we were talking for 27 minutes about how they have consistently done poorly and not adapted at all while the rest of the industry has evolved and changed. I get that there's probably nostalgia so the whole rose tinted glasses are in full effect but really if any other company did this kind of shit they would be swamped with complaints but Nintendo? Not a peep in the grand scheme of things.
    Nintendo is one of the Japanese companies who is so tribal and stuck back in the feudal empire mentality that I still do not know how they've managed to stay where they are, sure they have very creative people working for them but still so does everyone else and everyone else tends to change and learn while Nintendo stays the same. If it was good enough to get them to where they were back in the 90s with the N64 then they don't want to go anywhere beyond and improve upon it, that's how the higher ups at Nintendo seem to think.

    I don't know if I'm too optimistic or something but I feel like they'll release more Pokemon games on the Switch and focus on including old Pokemon that aren't in Sword and shield to complete the entire catalog of available pokemon that can be brought between games eventually.
    Why else would they even have the Pokemon home app?
    Hopefully a new title within a year or two like on the 3DS if they basically re-use the engine and backbone stuff that's already done for the new generation. Personally I'm hoping for a definitive alola version like yellow were to red and blue since I skipped Sun & Moon because of the many rumors of "Pokemon Stars" but I feel like they probably will delay that in favour of a diamond & pearl or black & white remake.
    Possibly make free updates with time too but that is mostly just wishful thinking since I don't think they have said anything about that to confirm or deny, yet atleast.
    Regardless I honestly don't care too much since I rarely ever used Pokemon bank anyway and lost it when I sold my 3DS because I were all in on the Switch instead and preferred the money over keeping it.
    It will limit the meta in competitive battles though but that's almost refreshing since new Pokemon will be viable.
    Additionally limiting what Pokemon that can be used is something the community have done themselves for years anyway because it's more fun if more Pokemon can be seen as competitive in different tiers.
    So in my honest opinion a what I believe to be temporary cut in what's available isn't all doom and gloom. Unless you won't be able to bring over Pokemon that exists in the Sword & Shields pokedex to the future games for some reason. (Remakes of old games limit it to what existed in that game and past generations though i think so that's acceptable for those games if that's how it usually works. But you should be able to bring those Pokemon to Sword & Shield.)

      That image is a blatant misrepresentation though. Captured from off screen gameplay, and compressed multiple times in jpeg form to make it look even worse, in a screen where textures and polys are loading, often having it compared to in game captures or up-renders of older games. Notice how they only use that one image. If things were truly that bad they would be able to give more than a single example, which people are not doing. One must also remember that games (at least most Nintendo ones) usually get their visual polish last, so even if that single low res jpeg was actually representative of the total quality of the game's visuals at this point in time (which it clearly isn't if one watches the actual trailer on Nintendo's page), there's five months to make it look better.
