In my country the router is provided with encrypion on the wifi as default, so you can't access the wifi if you don't know the key. I don't have changed the login to the router as i think that people have to be in my house to do that. About firmware update my router I chech if my router is wulnerably to problems. I have not heard of problems with my router yet. So I have not checked if there is an update to my router. Harddisks I send furter to other persons I always overwrite so nothing can be read again. I don,t update my bios either. I always say "If it works don't fix it" I have seen at lot of hardware ruind because og faulty opgrades. I don't want that. Have a nice cristmas and a happy new year Brian.

Guilty! My old Virginmedia had an 8 character Wifi key (it was randomized) which I used as was, then they were suggesting to change it, then I got a new Hub 5.
Struggled to reconfigure my smart bulb (do the switchy switchy thing, is it 5 times including the last ON, or excluding), can't get the thing in config mode, so I decide to replicate the old Wifi.
Hub 5 won't let me! Key too short.
After rattling the switch like fury, finally get the wretched thing in config mode.
Now way back, my first Wifi router didn't have a default key, so I used a random generator to produce a 63 character upper/lower/numeric and boy was it a pain to enter especially on a device without a proper keyboard

Using the same password or same few passwords across the internet. All my passwords are written down since they are all different and I certainly can not possibly remember dozens of complex passwords. I would rather deal with a bit of headache than have one site get violated and ALL my sites are violated at once. Yes I know password managers are a thing but I just don't trust them.

I make it a point to NEVER use a router provided by the ISP!👎 For starters, the ISP most likely 'rents' those routers for a monthly fee, which is ridiculous.
Back when I had ATT I had an AT&T provided router, and they knew EVERYTHING I did with that router! If I turned it off, for whatever reason, it didn't take too long for me to get an email from ATT letting me know that the darn thing was off! They also knew the SSID and any other settings of the router, perhaps even the password. I got emails on a regular basis telling me that the SSID had changed, or the password had changed, or there had been a change of this, that, or the other! Of course they knew all the activity as well.
    Unacceptable.

Great stuff Brian I really don't quite understand about the router changes etc but I di absolutely agree with you that one needs a third party security software on their machines. I have four machines and I have ESET Ultimate or Smart Security (I believe they are upgrading the Smart Security to Ultimate) on them and I find it extremely good at picking up the rubbish that comes though the internet. I did have Kaspersky for a long time but converted to ESET about four years ago and it is in my mind superior to the Kaspersky setup which was becoming a tad convoluted and confusing to use, and the support from ESET is just fantastic out here in Australia.

Start11 to get back a normalized start menu
Explorer Patcher to get back a normalized task bar. I don’t want to be forced to having my task bar on my main monitor; which is a large screen for work, editing, and gaming. I have always kept the task bar on the second monitor. And I don’t want two task bars, even though Display Fussion does a better job at dealing with two. Also, I want it larger to display more of the date and time, as well as more system tray icons. Windows 11 made the task bar essentially useless.

One of the problems with the you don't need any antivirus at all arguement is that those making it haven't any clue how antivirus actually works. They don't know what it does to protect you. I can promise you the antivirus is a million times better at spotting an stopping malicious code than the person making the argument is! I'm sure malware analysts could make much more logical arguements for why you need an antivirus than i can but some things are just common sense!

I am very bitter about it too, because the word on the spelling test was route, and the idiot teacher said root. Not realizing this, I spelled the word she said "Root" the way it is spelled. I wrote "root" and I did not get 100 % that I would have had if the teacher wasn't an idiot !
