    Probably the greatest episode of all of Vice and possibly one of the greatest episodes of TV ever. The cinematography, acting, the songs but also the details like the background/ fill music. All executed flawlessly, definitely 80s.

    The version of ‘Cry’ is the 12”. I was surprised how different the original version sounded, but was lucky enough to find the 12” in a second hand record store, in 1993. It had hilarious cartoons of Godley & Creme on it!🤣😂

    Cry By Godley & Creme was played when this episode 1st Ran in 1986!

    Without doubt, THE greatest Miami Vice episode ever made. I actually used it teaching college-level English Literature, as an example of how every aspect of the story knits together to form a total thematic wholeness. Just brilliant..!

    Gato Barbieri's smoldering version of "Europa" during that opening sequence is absolutely sublime. "Definitely Miami" it truly is. And Godley and Creme's "Cry" is outstanding at the end of episode. One of the Top 3 episodes, if not the best.

    The sequences with Dalva were so great, too. I often think of Albert Hall's delivery of this line as Maria makes her final plea for not having to break her cover for him: "You are making me VERY tired."

    When you live in a country where the winters are cold and the summers are not really better then watching this episode just makes you feel like you're in heaven. There's so many great scenes in this one that trigger your desire to watch it over and over again. I think it's still a very cool episode even though it's over 30 years old.

    That's an error in something you said Ms. Richter. The song "Cry" was always used in this episode. I had this episode on tape from it's original broadcast from January of 1986.

    I am convinced Clemente was not going to kill Maria based on what Tubbs and Gina discovered the previous scene and how happy he was dancing with his sister before getting stabbed. I have always felt the sniper was in case something went wrong which is exactly what happened. It is the Clemente-Maria ending that knocked me out the first time I saw it, not the Nugent story which is what everyone else seems to remember. It is a 5 flamingo quality episode with two great stories in the same episode.

    • @gheechiedan9299
      @gheechiedan9299 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have a valid point! This was 2 great story lines that could have been 2 great episodes and I had the SAME thoughts about him not wanting to kill his sister BUT The Crocket and Callie thing takes the cake for me because it is REAL LIFE and you could teach a class JUST on this storyline. I feel like Dads should watch this with their young sons to teach them what to look out for in relationships.

    • @DropAnchor1978
      @DropAnchor1978 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the Nugent story is so memorable because the perfct music and visuals were employed for that ending montage. It sums up the magic of the show, Miami Vice and the times, 1985-6. I visited Ft. Lauderdale for the first time in 1986, shortly after this episode aired. It was like stepping into that world. Magic.

    I love the last scene with Callie playing on the beach, making piles of sand that echo the piles of sand burying her victims at the sand quarry. I wonder if the number of piles she made represented the number of men she killed.

    • @paulastiles5507
      @paulastiles5507 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I had not realized until recently that was what she was doing. The deeper you get into that particular storyline, the darker it gets. The one with the mobster's sister is fairly conventional in the darkness being on the surface. It's loud and bombastic and self-important, just like Agent Dalva.
      But the serial killing Callie and Charlie have been quietly doing their thing for quite a while (if the numerous piles of sand are any indication). They only accidentally stumbled into Crockett's sights while thinking he'd stumbled into theirs. Otherwise, they could have gone on indefinitely, completely under law enforcement radar.
      The really scary thing is that they aren't even all the bright, hardly anything like criminal masterminds. I don't think Callie ever actually realizes Crockett is a cop. I think she thinks he just sold her out to them. They found the perfect scam with the perfect kind of victims that nobody would miss. And nobody did for a long time. That final shot of the two cops with the metal detectors calling out, "Hey! I've found another one!" is quite disturbing.

    This is one of the episodes of vice that sharply sticks out fondly in my memory. When the popularity of the series really took off I recall being home on friday nights (23 or 24 at the time) and really looking forward to it. I just got completed sucked into the coolness and moodiness of many the episodes and, for whatever reason, this one resonated with me. Love your reviews of the series too. The fact that all cars that show up at the quarry are black sports cars (including Charlie's) implies through symbolism that Charlie isn't necessarily Callies's special all-time partner in crime, but rather Callie pits each contender against whoever the previous winner was. The first shown victim brings a gun, but isn't cunning enough, whereas Charlie appears out of thin air. Callie encourages Crockett to be ambitious and to kill Charlie.
