This kind of thing makes me crazy!
I have plenty of nails, screws, nuts, bolts, fasteners, etc. They are all in those wall hanging drawer organizers, labeled
    Two words, downsize and organize!!!

Cleaned out our woodshed, came across bicycle parts and go kart parts from mid 70s, remembered each item like an old friend

Thanks, reminded me of decades of 'stuff' I collected and sorted (?) that I lost in the Caldor Fire a year ago. Funny I hadn't missed them until now.

The little tool kit was called Handy Andy. A person could really use them. Nowadays they would call the set a danger to children and would be made out of plastic from China.

    • @logcabinlooms

Sad, but true. Used to be if a kid had one of those tool sets, and an old peach crate or apple box, it would be busy for days, and learn valuable lessons, and skills. Now they get some electronic gizmo and turn into vegetables.

One of the few items I have from my great grandfather is a large shallow toolbox that probably weighs over 50 lbs. It is full of nuts, bolts, washers, fasteners and everything of that nature. I guess when he dismantled stuff he threw the tiny pieces in that toolbox. It has pulled me out of a few situations I was stuck in.

I did find the screws I needed, in a box of junk I inherited from my dad, which included stuff that he inherited from my grandparents, good junk spans many generations.

Was it one of those light blue hammered ones or the red ones too. Put the tools in there and you could hardly get it off the ground. It felt like it was magnetized to the earth. No wood handled tools they were all metal, steel? I guess so. Felt like iron. lol

One of my first winter projects after retierment was to sort and organize inherited junk. So glad I did.
But then I inherited more. So I went back at it!

The dice is a valve stem cap for bike/motorcycle tires

    • @logcabinlooms
      @logcabinlooms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

The hole is small, I suspect it was used on a ball type key chain, I may put my Chevy key on it just to class the vehicle up, a set of fuzzy dice for the mirror and I would be set. Maybe one of those old "Tiger in your tank" tiger tails to hook on the gas cap, my older brother used to have one on his old straight 8 Pontiac.

My Dad had a lawnmower service shop at the house that he worked in after his regular job as a saw building foreman. Lots of memories of going to estate sales in search of mower parts and he would usually just end up buying junk boxes and us boys were the pack mules getting them to the truck. Keep digging...You will find some wood screws!

I have a 1952 terry camp trailer that uses those screw in glass fuses. I blew one once and went several places to buy some, nobody knew what I was talking about. I finally found some in a fuse box in an abandoned house.

Sucrets was the box to have...paint can opener is handy! I used to sort my dad's, our garage's stuff, baby food jars all over the place. And grandpa's and some may have come from an auction. Dad always seemed to need assistance sorting.

Like a tour through the basement at the family house, or my garage now. These hunts never fail to find cool distracting stuff, but rarely what I'm after at the time. I'll typically find that looking for something else, quite some time afterwards.

My dad used to keep his blend of pipe tobacco in a herring jar like that. He mixed a couple brands together and then offloaded some into the foil pouches from the jar. I never knew it was a herring jar, the lid was not readable.
