I've been using paracord as shoelaces for 5 years now, because normal laces last about 2 weeks with how I tie my boots and paracord is dirt cheap and lasts a month before the outside rips. They work great.

A fire starting bootlace is something that sounds really useful to someone who doesn't actually do outdoors activities. The point of the product is so you will always have the tool to make the fire but in reality a good pair of boots secured properly on your feet are honestly one of the most important pieces of gear you could have in a survival situation. It seems like a clever idea until you sprain your ankle because you're wearing a lose boot, and that's the last thing you'd want in a situation like this.

Have you tried the FireAnt/Firefly from tortoisegear? The firefly fits into the toothpick slot of a swiss army knife, while the fireant is a ferro rod and tinder that screw into the corkscrew on a swiss army knife. Seems like a decent backup since most folks carry some form of swiss army knife, and might be helpful as a backup in a pinch.

@@1truefreedomfighter It's a reference to one of his old neighbors I believe. Can't remember exactly, but he went to visit someone. That someone had a large sized "jack" like the toy kind. They used it in a pot of boiling water, and then sat it on the table or something. Then Wranglerstar's old neighbor (Henry?) picked up the jack without knowing it was scorching hot. But all he did was set it back down and said "Don't take me long to look at something"

I've been using 550 as boot laces for years. Way more durable than traditional laces. No issues with loosening by doing a regular bow and then tying the loops with an overhand knot.

The only survival firestarter you need is a Bic lighter. It has a sparker, a striker, and highly flammable fuel, all in an easy-to-reuse package, and a single Bic lighter will outlast every other survival fire starter except a large ferrocerium rod.

I use 550 for boot laces every day.. it does take a different knot but it’s not hard by any means and comes undone with a single intentional pull on the lace end. I’ve never had my boots come undone with this knot, but I have with 550 and a traditional shoe tie knot

Things like this should not be relied upon as a primary means of starting a fire but could be part of a layered approach of having redundant ways to start a fire should your primary be lost, broken, etc.
