As it happens the oculus rift s has inherent problems that oculus hasn’t and most likely won’t fix because it is actually a Lenovo headset. Yes I get sudden disconnects and tracking issues daily but it is something I just live with now because I only have one headset.
Why does everyone does these weird things to play movies on quest? Sure OTG works and VD/ALVR might work but all these are more expensive or time-consuming then setting up a small dlna server to stream ur movies from PC to quest... I use emby and plex and my wd mycloud has dlna the quest sees all of them... Works as any dlna client out of the box over even wifi2.4 no need for 5ghz I'm talking 1080p 5.1channel h.265 movies haven't tried 4k yet but i guess it should work... Snapdragon 835 can easily do it
Can't help but notice you got Litchi installed.. You fly DJI? I recall one of my first experiences with a cheap VR (not really) headset...one of those Samsung headsets you slot your phone into. But I wasn't using it for VR. I was using it to feed the cam through for my (now sold) Phantom 3 using Litchi's 'VR Mode'. And it was amazing!!! Never occurred to me it could be possible with an actual VR headset though not sure I'd be brave enough to go outside with it. Edit: Sorry. Hadn't watched it all the way through before posting.

I would like to ask you about buying games like beat saber if you bought it in steam and if you want to play in a quest via steam is this okay or you have to buy the stand-alone version. and do you have to buy it twice if you want to play it in the stand-alone and with the link?
Yes unfortunately you do have to buy it twice but I did because it's nice to support the developers. I personally play the steam version more because I see no latency or lag and it is easier to add songs to.
Do you have to have the steam games installed on your quest, or just your computer? I'm new to vr and the quest, but I love it so far. I'm poor, so I could only afford the quest.
The attachment for the external storage is cool. I use the Skybox server to stream movies from my PC to help with memory but eventually my 64gb Quest is going to need external storage.
I own a Rift S and troubleshooting the connection is usually a daily occurrence. Almost every time I start up my computer I have to go through a checklist of "fixes". After that it usually works fine... My most common issue Device Manager: Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed) --Uninstall Driver, Replug USB and restart computer till it goes away But Ive also seen the Black screen, Three Dots in headset, DisplayPort Not Found and the last update makes my headset crash randomly in the middle of beat saber I just bought a Front Panel USB 3.0 hub to replace my probably faulty usb port so hopefully that works out. I definitely recommend the Oculus Tray Tool for making it easier to restart the service
I would love to say that I am happy I'm not the only one but I'm not. I wish I was the only one because that would mean it's my hardware.... I also find it painful that I'm not the only one that had to deal with this :(
The Mysticle Yeah, but I don’t mind using the Quest link, so I just sold it. I have not found any game-breaking issues playing with my Rift-S owning friend so far

I havent had any issues with my Rift S. Absolutley love it. Installed Oculus software then installed SteamVR to run other random games and non oculus or steam titles. Only issue ive had is getting it to fully run on my sons computer. He has an older version of windows 10 and the usb 3.0 driver is out of date. It still works but frame rate stutters on Gmod.
Haven't tried it yet but, will the external hardrive work with 3d sbs or 360/180 3d vids. What program or player do you recommend. This is the one thing I really want to work well with the Oculus Quest. Downloaded a 3d SBS video that is 21g's in size, no room on my Quest for something that big.
Was able to see my video's but unable to play mkv files, still wish I could choose other players to watch but it is only is giving me 2 options, samsung vr and oculus video player.

Forget external hard drive for movies. Plex media server can be used in Skybox to stream your movies to your headset. It does an excellent job with 3D movies as well. I have 1 gig fiber and a mesh network of Deco M9 AC2200 WiFi so I've been trying anything wireless streaming I can

Had rift s a week now. switched out two pcie usb cards. reinstalled/repaired everything. Everything is off powersave and at max voltage. Tried usb c adapter(for usb pci card, running a gtx 1070 ti) and powered usb hub. Still get loss of tracking on controllers which shows up as static on the pass through camera's. Mainly looking at PCVR. Not sure if i should return it, exchange it get a quest or just get an index. Or wait for hp g2 or quest 2?
That's kind of what I'm thinking. I wonder if I was to return it would they give me another quest. That would be nice because honestly I'm tired of all the Rift S crap.

The USB storage, can you install games on that too? Of course, it would effect read speeds but... It'd be interesting to know, because they clearly deliberately took the option of an sd card out so that people HAD to spend more on a bigger HDD.
To hook bluetooth headphones you dont need to do all that. You can just enable developer mode and there is an option to add bluetooth devices. Dont remember how I enabled developer mode though. Been to long.. maybe used sidequest???
At the moment I prefer link over virtual desktop because VD feels like I'm moving through jello. I have no idea why it is like that because I'm on a 5 GHz WiFi connection with a good router. Any advice?

Not sure how having it running on your PI will enable it on the quest, A buddy of mine on OpenPC TH-cam channel discussed using another Andoid device to send commands to Quest. I run screen increase on every boot. However, as now, I am on vacation with only my Quest and phone. Let track down how your Quest is triggering the ADB commands.
I want to say better performance on the rift, and better audio, and obviously no battery drain. I'd say unless the link goes on sale, or buy used, I'd probably pick quest - even if all you plan is using link on it
Do I have to double buy games from Steam and Oculus store to be able to play the games on my Quest? I wanna buy games now, but I don't know if I wanna get it on the OC store or Steam, since I'm not sure if I can play any of the games on my Steam without having to connect to my PC or Use Virtual Apps. I use my Bluetooth earbuds already with the quest. If you go into settings, experimental features, Bluetooth pairing, then you can pair Bluetooth devices without android settings app

For the disconnecting issues -> They changed somehow the drag of energy into the headset. If you go for an externally powered usb-hub, everything will be fine, the headset can charge and get a stable data connection ;)

8:15 all ports except one usb a 3.1 on my motherboard cause oculus link to work incorrectly.
Can you not just connect thunderbolt three or usb-c hard drive or sad? Do you need the adapter?
Do you need good WiFi in order to do low latency Virtual desktop? Cause I have terrible 3mbps internet on 2.4ghz
Even if you just had local 5Ghz that would do you good. I think 2.4Ghz isn't good enough for low latency.

This is exactly my point! Storage is a massive problem :D Yes 3d movies will work not a problem :) I just use Oculus Video to play them :)

I use the exact same thing but the thing is you cannot use Plex when youre on a car ride or on the plane :)

The buttons to an xbox controller and a touch controller are pretty similar anyways so i would assume if its even possible it wouldn't be to hard

Virtual desktop is on the oculus quest store $20 and u can connect ur Windows 10 pc to ur quest and play VR games through there

I use my Bluetooth earbuds already with the quest. If you go into settings, experimental features, Bluetooth pairing, then you can pair Bluetooth devices without android settings app
That's interesting but some people say that feature doesn't work for them so I put this one in instead because I know it works :D

For the disconnecting issues -> They changed somehow the drag of energy into the headset. If you go for an externally powered usb-hub, everything will be fine, the headset can charge and get a stable data connection ;)
