The problems that Germany had with their innovative aircraft is that Hitler often intervened personally to determine what a new aircraft would be used for. And not just aircraft. He demanded that the FW-190 and the ME-262 be used for tactical bombing. Everyone else knew that was foolish, of course, but defying him was not conducive to your health. If the FW-190 and ME-262 had been used exclusively as fighters they might has gotten parity in aerial combat and set back allied strategic bombing back significantly. Maybe even better than that, and leading to recovering air superiority. (That is a bit of a stretch of course.) But he did the same with the StG-44 rifle. He wanted the project cancelled but was defied and some few units have a superior weapon that set the course of the future in military small arms.
